Wonder how Crean handles that 5th slot till open. I know BeeJay is targeted..but if Meeks or Lee or the Kurlan kid (now that UConn is out of touranment play..and may face other problems)..if one of those guys calls and say “I’m your fifth guy”..what does a Coach with too many choices and too few slots do?? 1) Wait for Anya and his visit and give him a deadline 2) Take the best who verbals? 3) or oversign again for the 2013 class?

The 2013 class is technically already oversigned by 1.

    Good list.

Indiana has once again become a college every top recruit considers. It sure is nice to be out of the basement and back on top.

If a recruit says, “Coach Crean, I’m your final piece for 2013.” I don’t see how Coach Crean says to him, “Well, I appreciate you accepting our offer, but we’re going to wait to sign you.” so I don’t really see how he turns down anyone who is willing to accept the scholarship he offered to the kid. Having said that, I’ve got no clue how a coach goes about these things. I just don’t see how he turns down a kid that accepts an offer that he gave them, and I hope he doesn’t. I just think it would look bad. I’ve not heard of any offers that have been rescinded, but I’m not sure what kind of press rescinded offers get either.

Can of worms officially opened. ;)

Luke looks just like Cody in this picture haha. That would be nice.

Like a lot of things relating to recruiting, this is awkward, to say no more. On the one hand, as you point out, how do you put a kid off if he accepts your offer? On the other hand, how can you not have priorities? All the players we are looking at are talented, but some are more so than others, and some fit the team’s needs better than others. I am always in favor of honoring commitments, which would mean taking the first to accept, but I have no idea if that is how it works.

I am also not sure how this impacts the players. At this point Anya, Ojeleye, and all the others know there are more offers than spots
available, so the fact that they are waiting is interesting. They can count, and they surely know we are already oversigned, so it’s hard not to wonder if that is a deterrent at this point. On the other hand, it is an attractive program, and all these guys are confident in themselves, so maybe they pay no attention to such things. It’s going to be interesting to see how it all plays out….

In regards to it being a problem if one of them just up and said “I wanna commit”, I think there would be some danger there if it weren’t for the fact that it seems like Crean offered a lot of guys that are going to wait to make a decision. I think he offered guys like that so there wouldn’t be a problem.
