C-J columnist: IU-UK series is dead as a rotary phone for next season

Louisville Courier-Journal: Kentucky basketball won’t meet IU three-quarter way

UK coach John Calipari will hug and kiss the Cardinal Bird before he agrees to play another game in Bloomington. That’s his prerogative. It’s puzzling because Calipari has always claimed to schedule without the slightest suggestion of fear. But it’s his prerogative.

Here is Part II: If the Wildcats won’t go to Assembly Hall at least once every four seasons, Glass and IU coach Tom Crean can find a string of replacement parts for UK on the Hoosiers’ schedule. That is their prerogative, and it’s not a bit puzzling. Gus Johnson isn’t the only national sportscaster to call Assembly Hall “the Carnegie Hall of basketball.”

“We just can’t accept a one-sided, take-it-or-leave-it ultimatum that would leave our students completely out,” Glass said. “I think we did three-quarters of a loaf for them. That last quarter we really need for our kids.”

Because it is not the sane reasoning…why do you think UK offered to play neutral every year at lucas oil? It is the site of the final 4 every 4 years. He was trying to lock in neutral for this season in indy, so that 2 years from now it would be played there again w/ final 4 in indy.. That’s the year we proposed to play at rupp and that is why they declined…he wanted to sacrifice 1 rivalry game ( IU, NC, UL) to be able to play 1 game every year non-conference where the final 4 is being played…last season the SEC championship was in…New Orleans, site of final four…this year playing duke in georgia dome, site of final 4…next season playing baylor in cowboy stadium, site of final 4…following season final 4 is at lucas oil, which is why they wanted to get on neutral rotation w/ IU, guarantee they try to get a game w/ ND at the drum that season instead…following year final 4 in reliant stadium, look for a home/neutral w/ texas…texas at rupp in 2015/ at reliant field in 2016…40+ straight regular season contests tossed by the wayside to make room for these shenanigans…they strictly want to play on the final 4 stage without earning it by getting through the tournament

I had not thought of that.  If you came up with that on your own you’re brilliant.  Even if you read it somewhere I’m glad you pointed it out.

Tried to get into a slimey mindset and was the best reasoning i could come up with…it makes the most sense of a non-sensical situation…it is a huge advantage to play a regular season game where the final 4 is that season, especially when you are one of only 2 teams that get to do so…UK can spin it any way they want, but at their core, this is what they are thinking

Totally agree CV, at first I couldn’t have been more disappointed the series with UK was ending, now I am happy to see them gone from the schedule. They would have  had the opportunity to do to IU what IU did to them by beating IU at Rupp this year.  As far as I am concerned goodbye to the rubbish that is UK, let them hate on someone else.
