HD Video: Monte Morris at Best Buy Chicago Classic

It was another strong weekend for Flint Beecher (MI) and Michigan Mustangs guard Monte Morris as the consensus top 100 prospect showed off his ability to score in transition, off the dribble and from the perimeter at the Best Buy Chicago Classic in Deerfield, Illinois.

Morris, who took an unofficial visit to Bloomington on May 4, has offers from Arizona State, Boston College, Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Iowa State, Oakland, USC, Virginia and Western Michigan and interest from Butler, Illinois and IU.

Here’s a look at Morris from the Best Buy Chicago Classic: (Footage provided by our friends at UMHoops.com)

I’m not sure that I am that impressed .

Not a traditional highlight reel as it includes several misses as well. More of a scouting type look.

  • Kevin

What is there not to be impressed by? He missed a couple of shots? He seems like the perfect point guard, with sixe, shooting ability, ability to attack the basket, and dishing after penetration to come in and back-up Yogi and then eventually replace him. How about him and Hyron in the same back-court? Oh my goodness.

  • Diehard

His shot wasn’t falling in this clip, but otherwise I think there’s a lot to like. He is skilled with the ball and smooth in traffic. His shooting form is good despite the misses. If he can defend at all — and I suspect he can, given his length and lateral quickness — I think he could be an excellent Big 10 player. He is rated higher than either Sheehey or Oladipo at the same point, and looks more polished. Not saying he will have that kind of impact, but it looks like he has some nice potential.

Even if I’m right, though, it’s still hard to imagine him ending up here. Between the long-term scholarship crunch and the other players we are recruiting, it seems like a long shot, even if he is interested.

What year is he again?  2013?

If so, I would think we are good in this class and at that position especially.  I would be more excited about Jalen Coleman in 2015, who looks like a very similar player with greater upside…

…I still want to see how Hyron develops for his size.  Yes, I know that Yogi is a similar size, but Yogi is unreal and will make up for that size in a myriad of other ways.  I know Hyron is supposed to be pretty damn good but just would prefer to let that one marinate a bit…

We have Stanford Robinson so the ship has sailed on Morris.  The last scolly is for a big (Anya, McKay, or Lee).  But stranger things have happened.  As we know, there are all kinds of possibilities (transfers, NBA, non-qualifiers, and de-commits).  Balancing all this is very tricky and I will put my trust in the only one that knows the facts – CTC.

Agree on Morris being out for IU. #Feathery snatched up that last one for guards/wings. Either way I think I’d take Stan over Monte, but it also gave the added nudge to Anya as well, so I think it was a nice move by CTC. Not sure I wouldnt have rather had Ojeleye when it’s all said and done though. Is it too late to trade Hartman for Ojeleye? Hartman & Etherington………ok one is fine but they play the same position, have a lot of the same skill sets, and cant play together on the floor. One or both dont make it to their final year at IU.

Always good to have some strong IU blood on the bench…I bet Etherington and Hartman work their ass off and hold others accountable…great glue guys.

Speaking of non-qualifiers..does anyone know if Patterson and Hollowell have qualfied yet…they were mentioned as the two  in the movement who had not as of a couple of weeks ago??

  • HoosierTrav

Mentioned by who? They will both be eligible. I’m not sure who keeps blowing this smoke up in the air but its getting annoying.

I seem to remember a quote from Crean where he named three of the incoming players as already eligible.  He didn’t single two out as ineligible, but reading between the lines he was basically saying that they’re both still working towards it.  I don’t remember the specific players he did or didn’t mention.

This clip is a joke……I know for a fact it is more footage out there of same tournamment and he is balling….WOW! stop it!
