HD Video: A sit down interview with Stanford Robinson

FAIRFAX, Va. — The commitment of Paul VI Catholic guard Stanford Robinson provided a major boost to Indiana’s 2013 recruiting class. The 6-foot-4 guard became the fourth member of the class last Wednesday, joining Collin Hartman, Devin Davis and Luke Fischer.

On Monday evening, IU’s latest commit sat down with Inside the Hall at Paul VI High School to talk about his verbal pledge to the Hoosiers, his recent unofficial visit to Bloomington, plans for the summer, goals for the upcoming high school season and much more.

Watch and listen to our lengthy conversation with Robinson, the No. 46 player overall in the 2013 class according to ESPN.com, in the embedded media player below:

Sounds like a very hard worker and I’m sure he will be in the gym all hours of the night with VO. The one thing I wanted to hear though that I didn’t was him really trying to push BeeJay to come to Bloomington. Either way we have a great class coming in but BeeJay would just be the icing on the cake IMO. That dude is a man among kids out there.

Stanford will be a top 5 guard in the league from day 1.  He reminds me a lot of Darius Morris.      If you think about it, we haven’t had a great scoring guard make it to their Junior year, since A.J. Guyton.        Jordan Crawford, Tu Holloway, Robert Vaden, Bracey Wright, Eric Gordon, all left early, or in Tu’s case never made it on campus.        Even as good as this year’s team is going to be, unless VO can really bring his jumper a long by light years, we will be missing “that guy” again.              I am pumped to have this kid on board.

I really like what CTC has done here.

+ building a recruiting base in the Balt/Wash area

+ SR talks in terms of ” four years”

+ combo guard w pull up jumper

+ loves the IU fan base

+ can’t wait to get to work

The IU Nation is proud to have you Stanford Robinson! Good Luck on you senior season and get ready for the candy stripe pants.

  • IULaw79

Seems like a great kid.  Well grounded, respectful, and appreciates all that the university and us fans have to offer.  He’s going to be an impact on our program from day one with his work ethic.  Also appreciate that he’s “recruiting” Anya, but also giving him his space to make his own decision…which hopefully will be our Hoosiers.

  • Hammer

Thanks for choosing IU –  We R proud to have young men like yourself coming to IU!

  • MillaRed

We’re getting good kids that can play ball. In that order. And this is not a bad thing.

The Hoosiers have Indiana on lock down and will be in the mix in the DMV for a while…2 solid recruiting areas.

  • calbert40

That is probably my favorite thing about CTC’s recruiting strategy: he recruits young men of high character.  A certain coach who will remain nameless would recruit guys based solely on talent without regard to their character.  That didn’t work out too well for us.

I’m not saying anything bad about specific recruits or programs, but I would rather root for players like Robinson who may be slightly out of the limelight than some of the top guns who may come with character issues.

I am really excited about Stanford.  Its crazy his role model is Vic, because he reminds me just like him!  The comparisons of this interview to the one Vic gave after he committed are scary.  This kid sounds like he is going to be a great team player and contributor.  When he says he likes the gym is open 24 hours b/c he likes to get up and work at 4 or 5am, that is what I am talking about.  Stanford appears to have his head square on his shoulders.  He has the talent and ability to be a great player.  As he keeps working and gets to learn under Vic, Will, and Hollowell he is going to be an awesome addition.  I think this was a perfect nab for Crean.  Great pick up!

Happy to have you Stanford!  Good luck and welcome to the Hoosier Family!

  • HoosierDawg

Thank goodness holloway never made it to OUR campus…NOT Hoosier material!

How solid was the recruitment of Victor Oladipo? Aside from everything he is doing on the court, he is a leader, he is recruiting, he is showing what the athletic 2 types are capable of in CTCs system.

    He is a dream recruit.

I sat down with CTC two days after he took the job. Conversation went something like this…….

Milla – “Coach, I have a model for you to follow that will reap many rewards.”
    CTC – “What’s that Milla?”
Milla – “See Armon, Dre and Jemarcus?”
    CTC – ” Yes?”
Milla – “Recruit the opposite of them.”
CTC – Got it. What’s with this MillaNun deal?”
Milla – “Don’t worry about it.”

  • calbert40

I have always suspected as much.  His recruiting strategy had your fingerprints all over it from the start!  Well done, Milla.  Well. Done.

  • Keep_it_in_Indiana

haha, sorry if I wasn’t clear.  My intent with tone was to be 100% positive on both Vic and Stanford.  I agree with you whole-heartedly on all your points regarding Vic.

Mr Robinson all you have to do is work hard on the court and do your best to get good grades.  Thats why I love IU (I’m a New Yorker who went to school there).  Most fans see success as winning national championships, but IU fans (most of them anyway) care that these athletes become good people just as much.

  • Indiana_Banners

BJ Anya is his friend. I don’t know about you, but I would never push a friend to do something he or she didn’t want to do just because I wanted them to do it. I think what Stanford said says a lot about his character, “It’s his decision.” And it is. Hopefully Anya wants to come. Stanford sounds like he is going to try to sell him on it. But he isn’t going to push it on Anya and he shouldn’t. If Anya doesn’t want to be a Hoosier nothing good will come of him landing in Bloomington anyway.

  • MillaRed

We’re on the same page. I was just piggybacking on your good post!

  • 888

Nice kid. CTCs recruiting great young men to represent us. NO THUGS please!!  This is Xavier or Cincy. Hope he becomes another Vic.

This is a great “surprise” commitment to the 2013 class. The more I read about him, hear from him, see him play, etc… the more I like him.

I am just glad his whole choice wasnt on Coach Johnson being here. This kid is classy and sounds like a hard worker. Congrats on being a Hoosier Stanford Robinson!

His message to Hoosier fans was “Keep it peppy”?  Did I hear that wrong?  What does that mean?  I’m getting old.

  • SGHoosier

I think he said “keep it feathered”

  • Kelin Blab

This interview, linked with other recruits who have committed to IU, gives a lot of insight as to a recruiting strategy. Really really like Stan, will bring something similar to Vic from last year, Mo Creek from the year prior, and a lot more. For me another find and steal for Crean.

  • http://www.insidethehall.com/ Alex Bozich

    He said “Keep it feathery.”

  • MillaRed

Like Alex said, pertains to the “feathery touch” when shooting a jumper.

  • HoosierRyno

Should I expect “keep it feathery” t-shirts for the 2013-14 season if Anya becomes a Hoosier too? I would totally buy one!
