I like this guy-and you can never have too many good big guys. He just seems like a Hoosier. Along with Davis and Hartman, a very solid class to follow up The Movement. Hope CZ stays for at least a third year-the future just continues to look not just bright but brilliant!

  • Rantool

Seems like a class kid, with a good work ethic, and his smile during the interview says everything about his attitude! Glad your a Hoosier Luke!

This guy is going to be an absolute steal. Can you imagine if he ends up a legit 7 feet? Regardless, he is going to shoot up the rankings after this AAU season, maybe even into the top 50.  There just aren’t a lot of 6″11 guys with his offensive skill set.  I still can’t believe the Badgers let him out of the state. They will live to regret that big time.   Just seeing what a difference Cody made to this team, makes me just as pumped about getting Luke as any of our 2012 guys (other than Yogi).

Look’s like Luke is “blowing up” this summer.  A 3x 2x with 10 blocks!

I don’t think he was ever really interested in playing for Wisconsin. From what I’ve read, he was leaning more towards Marquette and I guess he attended some Crean camps at a young age when Crean was at Marquette. I’m just glad Coach Crean has not only solidified himself as the main guy in the state of Indiana, but has also proved he can’t get good players outside of the state (see: Creek, Oladipo, Sheehey, Watford, Fischer, and maybe Marcus Lee). That would be ranked recruits from states of Florida, Alabama, Maryland, Wisconsin, and if they land Lee – California, not to mention the best in-state talent. That’s an impressive 4 year span.

There will be stiff competition in practice between Luke and Peter. Most teams would love to have 1 7 footer who can play we may have 3 if Cody stays. What an advantage! What a front line! CTC is flat out getting it done. This is only the beggining and all those people who complain about CTC offering kids early can just stuff it. Seems like he knows what hes doing.

  • marcusgresham

Not convinced he’ll shoot up at all. I’m not disagreeing that he may not deserve to, but he’s signed.  They don’t sell subscriptions on the names of guys who’ve signed; they get there attention from people waiting on info regarding unsigned guys. I hope you’re correct, but I’m glad he’s headed to Bloomington regardless of what Scouts or Rivals says.

I know it won’t happen with regularity, but if Jurkin’s ready for minutes I’d love to see him, Cody, and Watford on the floor at the same time.  There can’t be anyone else who’d match up to 7’0, 6’11, 6’9, not to mention you could potentially have Sheehey and maybe Oladipo out there at 6’6 and 6’4 (if Vic’s running the point at times like he did.)

Of course, if they’re out there together it’s an automatic zone, so maybe instead of Oladipo it would be Hulls.  Even so, you have 3 legitimate 3-point shooters to bust the zone in Watford, Sheehey, and Hulls, leaving a zone (not the best defense to be in if you’re trying to maximize rebounding,) to try and block out Jurkin and Zeller as well as whichever wing is crashing from the weak side (both of whom are solid rebounders.)

  • Aceman_Mujezinovic_07

This kid is going to be an absolute diamond in the rough man!

He can play defense, has post moves, shoots well.  He’s like Cody Zeller Lite and he’s coming in exactly when the Hoosiers are going to need him if CZ does end up being a 2-season player.  If CZ stays a minimum of 3 years then Fischer becomes an even bigger steal because he’ll have a year to play with and against Zeller and get that much better.

This kid’s skill set is really good and he’s dominating good AAU competition right now just like Zeller did!

  • Brklynhoosier

Maybe he won’t play w/ Cody — but he will play with Trey.  Can you imagine two highly skilled, highly polished post players on the floor at the same time?

Coach Crean, is as good of a recruiter as there is in collage basketball, it is easy spotting those five star guys, but when you can find raw talent before they become 4 or 5 stars get them to commit early and start getting them to buy into a program like Coach Crean is putting together in Indiana that real talent, it is a great time to be a Hoosier, reminds me of the early 70s with Coach Knight, but better! I wish my Father was alive to see this, he died last spring and he was a true die hard HOOSIER! GO HOOSIERS

  • Kennydescombes

The only bad thing about ITH and the effort that CTC and the rest of IU’s coaching staff is putting in for all of committed IU fans is that we have to go through the agony of waiting in the off season and waiting for the years to go by as we anticipate the way these future hoosiers will mix together and make every season a possible year that we could hang another banner.  I would like nothing more than doubling our banner total over the next 5-20 years, or even surpassing that if the trend of players continues as it is looking of late.

  • Miamihoosier

You are definitely right about that, but if you notice Kentucky, Kansas, and Duke recruits are sometimes actually rated higher than they belong BECAUSE they have signed with said programs
…….I am assuming we might start to get a little bit of that “well if this team signed him he must be good”   priveledge now that we’re back.     Look at Kyle Wiltjer, the newest Plumlee, Ryan Kelly, Alex Legion, DeAndre Liggins etc….

  • HoosierPat

I get more excited about Luke Fischer every day. What’s great pick up by CTC and his staff. I’m really impressed with Fischer. The Grinch may have stole Christmas but CTC stole a recruit out of his backyard.

  • SCHoosier

He’s obviously enjoying the competition….points and rebounds indicate he’s being more aggressive. Like his demeanor and attitude.  With what he’s trying to do in the weight rom…Kid will be a force his first year at IU. How about dropping a 20-10 on old Bo in your first game vs. WIS:)

Can’t wait for you to don the candy stripes Luke!! Great kid and has lots of drive. His humility is endearing as well.

Derek Willis eat your heart out. Hope you enjoy being buried on the bench at Kentucky while Indiana is burying Kentucky at Rupp (If the deal gets renewed). Maybe Indiana will schedule Eastern Kentucky after Willis transfers there and our front line will dominate them as well.

PS I have some extra angst against Kentucky right now after listening to local Louisville afternoon call in show this week and we were named the most annoying and bandwagon fan base by many many Kentucky fans when they called in.

  • IUMIKE1

Annoying ? From pUKe fans ?  They obviously have knowledgeable & great confused with annoying. If that was true, and it’s not, it would be the kettle calling the pot black. They think anybody that beats them have the worst and most annoying fans, again the kettle calling the pot black. Couldn’t be happier that they feel that way. Bandwagon fanbase ? I’ll have to agree with probably the rest of the college bball fans and say that title belongs to pUKe….by a long shot and that is one title that they don’t have to worry about being removed at a later date.

My two favorite teams IU & WHOEVER plays Kantuckee.

Actually Dave Jennings and Tony Vinetti (The hosts) were agreeing. Asking where we have been for 4 years and stated when we win then we come out of the woodwork. I was just stewing in my head. When we were that bad who would call in a brag about nothing?? We took our lumps and lived through it as graciously as possible. They are jack legs sometimes. Indiana needs to step up the game in the southern indiana and Louisville area…We get hammered down here.

  • Bborpb

He about made me seasick watching this. Stand Still Young Man ! Welcome to Indiana

  • IUMIKE1

Totally agree as I am also from the southern Indiana area. Know exactly what you are saying about stepping it up down in our area. Both of those guys are probably big pUKe fans….now that they did what they did. I can’t bring myself to type their name and what they did in the same sentence.

  • The_Real_Assembly_Hall

Actually they are Louisville supporters. Jennings os a Florida State Alum and basically an indirect employee of U of L, and Tony is a local disc jockey turned sports call in host who is a rabid Louisville fan. They put up with a lot of crap from UK fans calling in their show, but also when it looked as if Indiana might be returning to respectability or even prominence this past season after a win at NC State they resisted and resisted the notion. Fact is they are scared of losing the market share in southern Indiana around the Louisville Metro area and their play time is over. Fact is there are dozens of Louisville Billboards on this side if the river and IU needs to put a stop to it. Especially when they say “Southern Indiana….Home of the Louisville Cardinals”

  • CB

Kentucky took that loss so personally. And when we rushed the court. How dare we do that on our own court. Their fan base is so haughty and superior, they think everything is about them. We win a game and they think it’s about them. The sheer arrogance is astounding.
