HD Video: Delaney, Lyles react to Tech’s IPSAC title

There’s a new king of the Indianapolis Public School athletic conference: Arsenal Tech.

The Titans moved to 14-4 and clinched a conference championship on Friday night with a 58-50 win at Broad Ripple in front of Gov. Mitch Daniels. Tech completed conference play with a perfect 6-0 record.

2014 Indiana commit Trey Lyles scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to lead Tech. Ron Patterson, an IU signee, scored six points for Broad Ripple.

Inside the Hall caught up with Tech coach Jason Delaney and Lyles for their reaction to the school’s first IPSAC title since 2003:

I went to the game last night and had a few observations:

    – Trey is really, really good…and he’s only a sophomore.  He was playing against some men in the Broad Ripple team and just took over a few stretches.  At times it was like an adult playing nurf ball with kids.  I can’t imagine what he’s going to be doing by the time he’s a senior, it will be ridiculous.

    – Ron is just entertaining to watch.  He could be simply walking across the floor talking to a teammate and is fun to watch.  He smiles all the time and has a swagger that you know it when you see it.  His shot selection is suspect at times but so was Victor’s.  His body as a senior in high school is not typical, he’s really put together.  Once he’s at IU with the weight training he’ll look like Ray Lewis (or that dude in the Old Spice commercials) by the time he’s a sophomore.

    – The Broad Ripple dance team is not a shy bunch of young ladies.

    – Ron Patterson’s mom’s hair is awesome.

    – Don’t expect a smooth progression to the restrooms during halftime at a hotly contested IPS basketball game…a little chippy to say the least.  The popcorn was good though.

I have got a chance to watch Ron and Trey play and my jaw dropped when i watched Trey play.  I have not had a high school player do that to me since i watched eric gordon a few times his senior year.  I am not saying he is going to be eric gordon but he has great ability and potential, which is the most important part.  Ron is just extremely fun to watch.  Always seems to be smiling and playing with intensity.  I have only watched one game but I like both of these guys big time

Alex, I just gotta say I am really glad and thankful that you guys run a good site and one that remains realistic.  I have been on the purdue blog (hammer and rails) trying to get some more info on the barlow and byrd situation and they are still picking purdue to make the tounrament, and upset MSU on sunday.  One article said they expected to come down here and beat us the last game of the year before barlow went out.  Sorry but no way would that have happened and I am all for optimism but seriously. and some of the comments people leave are ridiculous in regards of the language they allow and what they say to each other.  like I said, very thankful and glad you run a good site that is extremely reliable and always my first turn for IU basketball news.

With the loss of Barlow for next year, Purdue has signed Ron Patterson’s mom’s hair for the 2013 class.

  • I hate to make a speculation like this about a sophomore but this kid could very well be one of the best players to ever put on an IU uniform. He is a beast and still 2 years of high school left to even get better. The bad thing is that I don’t see him staying for more than 1 year at IU and that makes me sad 🙁

Trey Lyles will be a legend as a Hoosier.
    Lyles is a beast!

It might be sort of a stretch for the exact reason you said, because he probably can’t do in one year what Calbert could do in four. But to say he is very VERY good is not a stretch. There was an article on ESPN that compared him to Tim freaking Duncan. And the kid is a sophomore! Scary stuff. At this rate he’ll be putting up 30 and 25 per game his senior year

Yes hes gonna be great. Tim Duncan comparison is as high a praise that a high-schooler can get. Even if he stays only a year at least well have him. I cant think of anyone outside of Gordon or Andre Patterson with more hype. Jeffries was national player of the year but his class was a little weak that year i beleive. Josh McRoberts class was weak as well if he got national player of the year.Yes iknow he went to DUKE just makn a comparison.

Trey is a very mature and articulate soph., Huge upside..as he improves his shot and quickness. Crean better keep VERY close to Lyles..cause everybody in the top 10 recruiting schools are gonna be playing him their siren song. He should be 6-10 and a real physical  specimen by the time he gets to IU.  From w hat I’ve heard..Patterson had to take too much of the load for BR this seaosn..so by slowing him down..Tech sealed the deal. I think Ron will be like AJ Moye was for IU..instant spark plug..better overall offensive and defensive player.
