Luke Fischer joins Indiana’s 2013 recruiting class

  • 01/01/2012 12:39 pm in

According to a report by NY2LASports.com, 2013 Germantown (WI) big man Luke Fischer has given a verbal pledge to Indiana.

Fischer took an unofficial visit to Bloomington last night for the Indiana-Ohio State game at Assembly Hall.

The 6-foot-9 Fischer is rated the No. 96 player nationally by Scout.com.

We’ll have more on this developing story in the coming hours, but here’s video we shot of Fischer over the summer at the Kentucky Hoopfest in Louisville:

Update: And here’s some more recent footage:

I think that there is agood chance that he grows to 6’11. Obviously in the next 2 years and with contact from the IU staff, his skills and game will grow and develop. I predict that IU takes one more for 2013.

You always need a quality Big Man in every recruiting class and two if you can get them.

Not really. Crean will recruit at least four for every class and the scholarships will work out.

To me it looks like he was describing the total criteria expected for an Indiana student athlete. Nit just straight A’s. Never can have enough bigs. One or two injuries and the front line will be depleted and then we are forced into a 4 guard lineup and we have a 3 guarding the 5 spot. Plus it is better for practice. We have no idea what the coaches want to put together. We have no idea what is best for the program. Heck CTC may want to get shifty and change up our strategies every couple years to keep other coaches guessing. This kid may red shirt, we really have no clue. I wouldn’t mind seeing us in a situation where we can start red shirting one freshman a year. 5th year seniors can do wonders for a team when it comes to leadership , intellect, and experience. Once we get past the deficit of Mo’s injuries it is actually feasible that we can redshirt to our advantage. BTW Mo was dropping some jumpers from about 40 feet out during the warmups before OSU. Can’t wait until he comes back. He may have some surprises left for us during his last 2 years at IU.

I am sure he will get a warm ovation in Madison when IU heads up there for a road game during his freshman year. That’s alright we got his back. Here is a little trivia. Who was the last Wisconsin native to suit up in the Candy Stripes?

Good footwork and hands. Good passer and high motor. Well rounded 6′ 9″ and growing.

Great get CTC. Go Hoosiers !

  • IU Tim

I know we could lose players due to entering the draft early, transfers, kicked off team, or academically ineligible, but I don’t know who would want to commit counting on that.  I don’t see any of those scenarios very likely with the current bunch or the `12 class.

    Todd Jadlow.

  • I’ve always been a fan of red shirting players. I have been thinking all year that AE would have been a good fit for a red shirt but CTC has his reasons for everything. I didn’t know about Mo out shooting around. Man would he help us out as long as he plays like we all know he is capable. I’ve just never been a fan of bigs who like to stand outside and shoot. I love big men who like to grind it out in the post thats why I can’t wait to see Parea in Hoosier red(crimson). We are gonna be a force to be reckoned with down low next year and years to come plus we haven’t had the speed at PG like we will with YF.

I know we won last night, but we could have used another big against OSU when CZ and TP both got in major foul trouble.  Also, while we may have CZ, Perea and Jurkin on the roster at that time, that doesn’t mean that we will not have any injuries to deal with on top of possible foul trouble.

Having good depth is a sign of a solid program.  The more solid and skilled 6’9″ players the merrier!!

Right on! Let’s pursue class, academics, committment to a four year program, and continue to work a clean program at IU. If we do this, we will complete restoring our legacy.

I agree.  The second clip just added showed there’s improvement already and I love the way he uses his hip to hold defenders off while going straight up with the ball.  He never brings it down.  That’s something that a lot of big men nowadays don’t learn!

I think you only want one true redshirt a year, and Mo is unfortunately that guy.  Plus, we have Danny Moore on scholarship, so we really are down two scholarship players.  AE is getting some minutes here and there, and I am happy he is available with Will hurt for “who knows how long”

  • Ron-in-FL.

Indystar says he was measured and weighed Sat. by IU and is 6’10 and 215 right now!

  • MitchellBMitch

    Completely Agree…

I hope Luke can develop over his time at IU into a great contributor, he will never be the star, but I think he has potential to play a very important role for our team…

What a win too, defense is what won us the game, just like CTC’s been preaching…

    Go Hoosiers…

Can we get the other guy on his team too!

after watching the second video it looked like his teammate was chris kramer.. but then the kid hit a few threes and also didn’t act like a punk so i knew it wasn’t the former boiler

If Mos granted a medical year hell have 3 tears left. Mos gonna quiet all the nay sayers and make a huge comeback. That guy just oozes NBA. Danny Granger like player. Hes far from done guys. Now hes just got unlimited range. With him back next year we will be ranked #1 for a good portion of the year. We have a great chance at hanging #6 next year if we dont do it this year. Teams that can shoot and play defense can go along way in marchj boys and we can do both. Best shooting team in the NCAA. Id put us against anyone on a neutral court.

    Jamal Meeks is from Wisconsin

It’s nice pickup for IU to get Fischer, but Tom Crean need to really look at Fischer’s teammate #3- Zak Showalter- looks like an Aaron Craft with major hops.

  • randy

Hey, Luke!  Talk #3 in blue to come play along with you in Bloomington!  Your inside/outside duo looks outstanding.

  • randy

I just posted that Luke should talk #3 in blue to playing in Bloomington with him.  Their inside/outside combo is very impressive.  I just learned that Zak Showalter is walking on at Wisconsin next year.  Maybe this is just one great performance for him, but wow…a walk on?  He will earn a scholarship with Bo Ryan if this clip is any indication of his talent.  I would love to see him walk on at IU!
