ESPN.com: Gordon to Hornets in deal for Chris Paul

The Los Angeles Clippers have agreed to a deal in principle with the league-owned New Orleans Hornets to acquire guard Chris Paul, according to sources close to the process.

The Clippers, sources said, will send guard Eric Gordon, center Chris Kaman, forward Al-Farouq Aminu and Minnesota’s unprotected 2012 first-round pick to the Hornets for Paul.

The Clippers will also receive two future second-round picks, according to sources.

The deal is expected to be approved by the league Wednesday night, sources said.

Too much for Paul. Look at is stats the last few years…he’s still a great player but already in decline. Gordon, all IU bias aside is just a notch below Paul right now and will eventually be the better player. Throw in the other guys and that 1st round pick and I think the Hornets won tis trade.

This sucks for Gordon.  Hornets?  I hope that they can get a 3 way deal done and send him up to a Norcal team.  Hopefully GS as they are the closest for me!

Maybe this opens the door for Gordon to sign with the Pacers next year.  It looks like the Pacers will have plenty of cap room next year and I doubt Gordon signs with the Hornets again.

This is awful for EG, the Hornets are a waste land destination. Next year he will be down to one year in the contract, and can hopefully get a trade to almost anywhere else……..If the Pacers had EG at shooting guard, we could take out the every team in the east other than Miami………..too bad

It’s been awesome seeing EG at so many IU games this year. He’s been a consistent supporter of the program and his interest in the team seems genuine.

Hopefully for Gordon’s sake, this trade works out for the best… although on the surface it “just ain’t cool” to say goodbye to being teammates with Blake Griffin.

So does this mean the Clippers think Bledsoe is a 2-guard?

    or Chicago

New Orleans got the better end of the deal in this trade.
Gordon + #1 Draft Pick is > Paul

I think it means they think Billups will be a 2-guard for them.

  • I think it’s more likely they think of Bledsoe as an asset.  Also, let’s not forget that CP3 has missed plenty of time due to injuries the last few years.  Bledsoe might have to fit in just like Darren Collison did his rookie year.

As far as Gordon though, he will be a restricted FA next year, and the Hornets will likely match any offer. This was posted before the trade, but I think it still holds: http://sbn.to/u4oeZV

If the Pacers go after him next year, my interest in the NBA will spike.  Pacers can let Danny Granger go, sign EG, and play Paul George at the 3.  EG is one of my all-time favorite basketball guys.

The Clippers are dumb. They should have traded Bledsoe instead of E.G. They will see what they are missing in the next few years when E.G. explodes in the east. Maybe this is better for E.G. knowing their history of ruining very good players that end up doing better on other teams. Just to name a few– Mark Jackson, Elton Brand, Terry Cummings, Adrian Dantley, etc.. Maybe it is better for E.G. to leave that laughingstock of a team.

For some strange reason I have a pretty strong IU bias, weird…

But straight up, I think EJ is a better player and if you through in the draft picks.  Congrats Commissioner you dictated a trade for the Hornets.

    Go EJ Go!

No team would take that trade! I really like this trade. The Indiana Pacers last 2 of 3 big deals: West. Hill, and Collison, were with NO. Let’s go for 3 of 4 with EJ, or EG. He is an All-Star level player in the league.

And get NO to throw in Kaman into the deal for a first round pick.

Bledsoe wants to be a HS math teacher when he grows up.

    Yes, an old 2-guard.

  • Keith Kelso

With one year left on his current contract this may be a good thing for him.  Their offence will go through him and he’ll average a ton of points.  He may even end up an all-star this year which will just make his price tag for next year go up.  I wish the Pacers could trade for him right now though.

I agree—basically Stern just seems to not want Paul playing for the Lakers, so he screwed the Clippers in the process.
