  • Grant_usi

Wayer is Sophomore walk-on (was on the squad last year – saw a few minutes of garbage time here and there), Smith must be a Freshman walk-on.

Taylor Wayer joined the team as a non-scholarship player last fall. He played in nine games last year as a freshman – drilled a long 3-pointer in the season opener against Florida Gulf Coast. Played a minute or less against 7 teams, including Ohio State and Illinois; played 2 minutes against Savannah State. High school: Bishop Chatard High School, lettered in basketball and track, averaged 18 points and three assists, named to the All-City Tournament Team.

Raphael Smith joined the team for practice last year during the spring semester. He was one of the fellows we saw last year on the bench in a gray hoodie. He’s listed as a red-shirt freshman on this year’s roster. He played for South Bend Riley High School, averaged 13.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists, team captain, was first team All-Conference, was an NIC All Star where he had 16 points in the game and an Indiana Metro All Star.
