Indiana announces 2011-2012 basketball schedule

The Indiana University basketball program announced the complete schedule for the 2011-2012 season this afternoon. A significant chunk of the schedule had been known, but now the finalized schedule has been revealed. A few times and dates will be solidified at a later date.

Indiana’s non-conference portion of the schedule is highlighted by home games with Butler and Kentucky, a neutral court meeting at Conseco Fieldhouse with Notre Dame and a trip to Evansville to play in the Purple Aces’ new arena which opens in November.

The Hoosiers will play seven Big Ten games on ESPN or CBS and will open the Big Ten season on the Big Ten Network in East Lansing against Michigan State on Wednesday, December 28. IU will play just one game against Illinois (home), Northwestern (home), Nebraska (away) and Wisconsin (away) while facing every other Big Ten team twice.

You can find the complete 2011-12 schedule after the jump.

Butler loses 2/3 of its scoring and brings in a weak recruiting class. Any team that loses that much and brings in so little will struggle. They’ll be lucky to make the tournament. Notre Dame loses almost 90% of its scoring and 6-7 seniors. They also do not bring in great recruiting class to counterbalance the losses. They likely won’t make the NIT.

Oh, and Calipari has 0 NCAA Violations according to the NCAA. I guess we’ll see you guys in Assembly Hall when we bring in 5 of the top 18 projected 2012 Draft picks and 3 returning starters from a Final Four team.

16-19 wins in the regular season.  I do think this team finishes .500 or above, which is at least an NIT bid.  I’m going with 9-3 before conference play, then the NCCU game is a win. That means between 7-11 and 9-9 in-conference.  I hope I’m selling them a bit on the short side.

My daughter’s never been to a game (come to think of it, I’ve never been to a regular season game in The Hall myself,)—I’m thinking the UMBC game may be a good time to take her since it’s during break.  Easier to get seats, last night before my Christmas break starts so I don’t have to get up in the morning, and it’s not on regular TV anyway (and I’m not paying to watch a damn game online.)  Maybe I could even call it an early present for her.

I think @Evansville is a BIG TIME trap game.

I’m in total alignment with that and would view that result as progress, albeit not as much as we would all want.

Really wish we could’ve played Illanoy, Northwestern, and Nebraska twice!

9 cupcakes+8 B1G wins+1 of UK, NC st., ND, and Butler and its an 18 win season, probably NIT, small chance of NCAA.

The losses against Iowa has got to stop.  They should be wins 9/10 times.

Last year, we ended the season on a nine game losing streak.  If we start to skid again, a late season win could give this team a little more confidence.

looking foward to the 7 games in November- excited to watch the game on the sidelines in two of them, because with the quality of talent and game minutes on this team- the only reason to lose either is if we’re out-coa…..

If your seeing an 11-7 Big Ten record after a 9-4 non conference, I’d like to know what schedule you’re looking at!  Butler, NC State, Notre Dame, and Kentucky are the only true tough teams we play, and Butler and NC State are iffy.  We go 9-4 against that and the best we do in B10 play is 7-11.
    My call:
    10-3 Non Conference
    8-10 Conference
    18-13 Overall
    NIT

didn’t you take her to UK last year?

That’s what my math is pretty much telling me too. Hope if my calculations are off it is a mistake in our favor.

I’m with Aceman on the first part of the conference schedule looks like it could get nasty before we see much of what should be a little bit of an easier stretch.

I was hoping for a Saturday home game so I could fly in from DC to catch a game.  No Bueno

Ugh, 15-16. Call me pessimistic, but I’m usually pretty good (within a game) at picking our record before the season. Last year was the exception – shot the moon with four (!) wins too many. I really look forward to that non-conference game in late February. Might as well act like a Division I newbie if we’re going to have a record like one.

No.  The only regular season game I’ve ever seen IU play in person was against UK in Freedom Hall back in ’93.

The only time I’ve been in Assembly Hall was against the Soviets the year before Knight pulled the team off the floor.

  • So_Cal_Hoosier

That was the first thing that I noticed too.. Sucks

  • So_Cal_Hoosier

I think that all of the players will be going into both IU vs. Iowa games with chips on their shoulders.. Should make for some good games to watch

  • Aceman_Mujezinovic_07

Yeah, that definitely would’ve helped.  IU’s conference schedule has to be one of the tougher ones in the conference!

I see a winning season here at least, however Indiana is going to win a game that most people think they wont.  They will beat Butler, Notre Dame, NC State, or Kentucky, maybe win 3 of them actually (hope the stick it to Kentucky ). However I see them losing a game or 2 that they should win, I really think Evansville is going to beat IU, and Chattanooga and Stony Brook are always decent as well, then there is always losing to Iowa of course.  Hoping for the best a 20 win season
