I agree.  If you’re not looking at this team through Crimson colored goggles, what’s changed from last year?  Zeller looks great, but how many Freshmen dominate the Big 10?  Realistically, Creek is not coming back, Hulls is still too small, Verdell is not a primary scoring option on a good team, Watford’s soft, all of our big men foul at a baffling rate and we were one of the worst defensive teams EVER last year (and the year before that.)

Hoosier fans (my self included) are clinging to a few hot shooting nights from Hulls, the accomplishments of a high school player and a couple of dunks from Pritchard and Sheehey and assuming we’re going to make a huge jump in the standings.

The skepticism is well founded (I’m sorry to say.)

It is tough for a Freshman at any position to dominate the Big 10.  Its even tougher for a Freshman post player to dominate.  While I love Zeller’s 10 foot game, how much of that is going to be available if he can’t establish position.  I’m very excited to hear he has put on 10 lbs, of course I did too my Freshman year eating that Teeter cafeteria food.

It would take a miracle for the football team to finish 9th in the conference this year.

Word is he may even be better.  Keep a close eye on this developing situation.

I think he was pretty good last year.  He won some Mr. Something in some state near where he is going to play Basketball.

My Freshman 10 came courtesy of Dagwood’s, LaBamba’s and beverages by Big Red Liquor smuggled into Read Hall. What glorious times to have a meatball sandwich and watch Calbert and the boys do battle with the Fab 5, Glenn Robinson and the Illini.

Based on Saturday’s performance it would take a miracle for them to finish 11th my friend.  I am so mad that I was able to pick it up on Streaming internet on ESPN.  Ruined a few hours of my life that I’ll never get back.

Blitz, why not blitz?  Who needs to blitz lets just let the QB have all day.  Ugh, I got so mad I’m just glad I didn’t break my pc.

Agreed. Who cares what this magazine says anyway? I’d be happy if everyone predicts us in last place. I’m confident we will do much, much better than that, and we won’t be set up for disappointment.

My personal expectation is to win a bunch more Big 10 games than last year, and make the NIT.

  • Is this the one that has a page for each team in the country? If so, anyone know where I can buy it?

Ok Mr. Glass-half-empty Greg. Here’s what’s changed from last year:

Our defense has VO hounding like JR could last year. The difference? VO has value on both sides of the court. CZ will have room to move in the post, because TP (lots of people don’t want to hear this) helps create so much offense. CZ also has height on the defensive side and seems to have a knack for picking the boards. I agree CWat was kinda soft on D, but i expect his points will come easier this year which could lead to better energy on D. For me, the wild card is Remy Abell. I’ve got a hunch he’ll be running the point some – and with his stout frame and ability to DRIVE, he can lay it in or dish to Cody, Vic (who’s probably waiting at the rim), CWat (or Jordy, Will, Roth, AE, VJ3 or whoever’s shooting is hot at the time).

Soooo…i think a lot has changed since last season. We’ll be tougher on the glass, faster in transition, and able (no pun intended) to drive the rim and score. But that’s just my opinion. I could be right.

Do i think we finish 9th of 12 teams? No. We’re better than that. But Mike Davis got his guys to buy into the underdog mentality in 2000-01 and look where it took them.

It’s not that the glass is half empty, it’s that if you look at what these guys have actually done on the collegiate level, there isn’t a lot there.  I think we have a strong shot at 16 wins and 18-20 is not out of reach.  However…

Pritchard creates offense?!?  Where has that been the last 3 years?

Zeller looks great, but again, skinny Freshmen rarely have a significant impact on the Big 10.

Watford wasn’t tired on D, he was lost.

Remy Abell isn’t getting off the bench this year.  At best, he’s 10th on our depth chart.  There aren’t enough minutes to go around for him to have an impact (same for AE and Roth.)  That leaves us with only 2 shooters in our top 10 who hit more than 31% of his 3 pointers last year.

The ’01 team was LOADED with talent and experience.  Everyone knew that was going to be a really solid team (check out “Knight” if you want to read about how that team was put together and what the architect thought they’d accomplish.)  This team is nothing like the ’01 team.

Again, if you want to take the perspective of “I’m an IU fan, so I believe that every IU player will perform WAY beyond they ever have before,” then, OK we’re going to the Final 4.  Otherwise, 9th in the Big Ten is within the range of what will likely happen this year.

I’ve read this magazine since ’95 and they are pretty good. IDK if they will be right but how can you say they’re dumb? We weren’t suppose to be last last year but we were so there is not much there to predict them higher.
