ESPN.com: Arizona overtakes Indiana in 2012 class rankings

The Wildcats are on top of the basketball recruiting world again, however, these Wildcats are from Arizona and not Kentucky. With the addition of Brandon Ashley, the No. 4 overall player in the 2012 class, coach Sean Miller’s Wildcats fly past Indiana, which was entrenched at the top since the beginning.

Arizona now has two recruits in the top 10 overall and three in the top 40. In the Wildcats’ rear view mirror are Indiana, Pittsburgh, Michigan State and Texas. Villanova recently dropped to No. 6 after Savon Goodman decided to open up his recruitment.

  • I’ll still take our class over theirs.

Meh.  I’m happy with the recruits we’ve got, no matter the ranking.

Sean Miller is one of my favorite coaches and one of the best so his success doesn’t surprise me one bit…..but wait til Gary Harris commits to Indiana

  • I think a comparison of the recruits by their rankings would put Arizona over the top but I would still take the friendship of the 2012 IU recruits and the fact that they know each other so well. I think that will go a long way into molding a championship contending team. Also, they won’t necessarily be one and done.

It will be interesting to see what happens if Gary Harris comes to Indiana.  Will we go back on top?

Pretty sure this is just for ESPN. Rivals has to have us way higher.

This argument takes one name….Gary Harris. Besides the fact that we will be number 1 after that is a joke…secondly 2014 class will be better than 2012…Period

I have to agree with you on this Zeese. Kids having played together and against each other and knowing each others habits are very important factors. This 2012 class of Hoosiers will have a big jump on a lot of other teams just by having the chance to have played with and against each other throughout the years of AAU and high school. I also tend to think along your lines that these Hoosiers for the most part will not be one and done type players. I think they are aware that the possibility exists fro them to pull off something special here and they might just want to stick around for the ride !

Most of you are saying it on here.

The fact that we will or will not end #1 is no big deal at all.  I am not sure what the correlation is between #1 recruiting classes and championships are but I imagine that it is not any different than being #2, 3, 4 or 5.  My point being it is kind of like the curse of being ranked #1 pre-season.  In my opinion, it is probably best we be somewhere #s 2-5 with a group of guys who likely play 3 to 4 years (like the FL bunch) and make something happen as a team.

Yeah, having the #1 recruiting class sounds cool but on an absolute basis we are in great shape.

We all knew this was going to happen at some point.  Most of the top guys still haven’t yet committed waiting for the pUKe to offer them some $$$$$.  As we stand now with no additions I think we’ll be 5th or 6th once it is all said and done and that is still pretty good.  If we add Harris bump that up to 2nd or 3rd but I don’t think we can get first overall no matter what because there are just too many top 20 kids still left to decide.

I stopped respecting the rankings when I saw Patterson was no longer in the Top 100.

    I really could care less.

I think what makes the ’12 class so special is their cohesiveness.  I will take a cohesive group of very talented players over an “all-star” cast of individuals any day.  Also, there is a lot of balance to that class.  We have distributors, defenders, rebounders, scorers and even some shot blockers.  I don’t know what the Arizona class has, but I won’t trade ’em.

Congratulations to ARI, but I’m still greatly excited about our class.  The main thing that excites me is that we’re bringing in guys who *want* to play for IU.  They chose us.  They have that burning desire.  That means more than anything.

I’ll take our FOUR YEAR players any day over their one year players. As pUKe has shown us, 1 year players don’t win championships, and the 2 top ten recruits I’m going to assume are one and dones.

AZ huh?  Cody, Yogi, Hanner, Buss, VO, CW, Sheehey, Mo, Hollowell, AE, PJ, DE, and more!  Love to see AZ in 2012 tourney.  Can’t wait for the next 1-3 years!  Might be moving to Durham for a job soon.  Imagine being stuck there then??   Represent represent!

The good thing about IU’s recruiting class is that they have a player at every position .
This group could play as a unit. Also, three of the players are very good defensive players which you need to win. Good size across front line and with an excellent point guard to run the show. Really, what else do you need, and more than likely, the players will play together more than one year.
