2013 Indianapolis Cathedral wing Collin Hartman had a break from AAU this past weekend and suited up with his high school teammates at the USSFA High School Shootout at Carmel.

Inside the Hall compiled video of Hartman from a Sunday tournament game at the shootout. Watch clips of the talented Indiana commit (wearing jersey No. 20) in the embedded video player below (Note: You can expand the video to full screen by using the arrows in the bottom right hand corner of the player):

A nice, smooth, fundamentally sound stroke is never a bad thing….

Congrats to Verdell Jones for making the pull up J fashionable again…

I am seeing more and more kids use it and more and more defenders get abused by it. At 6’7ish Hartman with a solid mid range pull up J game is very solid.

I haven’t personally reached a verdict on Collin, even after having watched him play a time or two.  If anything, i envision a solid bench player who can play decent d, knows the game, takes care of the ball and is a threat to hit the open shot (ala Kyle Korver for the Bulls).

I see why Purdue wanted him so bad and why they called him their next Robbie Hummel. I can see similarities between Collin and Robbie. That is one sweet stroke and he has the height to play the 3 or 4.

I watched and thought of Brian Evans. Definitely not a “solid bench player”, but an 18 point/game, solid do-everything player.

Collin can get his own shot off the dribble or catch and shoot it.  He has deep range and, as Kelin points out, a good mid-range game.  I see a pretty good offensive player here that will only get better and who has a chance to be an important contributor once he hits campus.

Most encouraging thing is that he looks better than the last clips I saw — seems to have improved his handle.  Give him another couple years’ improvement, 2 yrs playing behind RP, JH, AE, VO, WS, etc, and he’ll be really good.  Like the Brian Evans comparison.

Getting Collin to come to IU is more than just picking up a 4 star player.  He’s from Indiana, is a good student I think, and it keeps him from attending Purdue which if he did you know he’d be a thorn in our side.  That goes for any really good kid from Indiana.  It forces Purdue to look elsewhere and play second fiddle to Illinois in Chicago or MSU in Michigan.  I’m worried that the point guard from North Central is going to be a problem as well as Smotherman.  Hartman fortunately is a Hoosier and is continuing to develop a game that I see being like Hummel’s, Evans, or Dunleavy.  Primarily as shooter but able to go inside when needed.

Not sure he is athletic as Hummel, but shooters are always needed. And at his height even better. He is not as deadly as Diebler, but honestly, what else did Diebler bring to the game? If CH can hit the glass and play decent D he will have an important role.

As we move along over the next few years, we need to have depth. And as you noted, we swiped him from Purdue!

The Brian Evans comparison is a good one.  I think Collin has the ability to be more athletic.  He has a nice frame that should see some serious muscle added over the next few years.  He can do it all well, just not quite great ….yet.  I’d be happy with another Evans for 4 years.  Very heady ball player too, makes his team better I think.  He and Davis will compliment each other well, along with the other guys that are going to already be there.

Yeah, me too. He’s just getting use to his size.

I think I see a little Kyle Singler.
