Video: Trey Lyles at adidas Nations, highlights

A couple of quick videos worth sharing of 2014 commitment Trey Lyles. The first is an interview with Lyles from the adidas Nations camp in Chicago and the second is a mixtape of Lyles from last month’s Spiece Run ‘N Slam from our friends at CityLeagueHoopsTV:

    Holy crap…I saw him play three seperate times this year with Tech and he’s improved a bunch in only a matter of months.  At this rate of improvement…not sure where he’ll end up or who he will be like.  He’ll be Trey Lyles and like no others.  Tim Duncan is not as quick as Trey which would have been my comparison a few months ago.  Now I’m not certain but that’s a good thing…he’s so good at this point I don’t know who to compare him with.  Excellent problem to have.

    He’s got Duncan’s demeanor and his midrange game, but I don’t think I ever remember seeing Duncan go coast to coast.  Dude.  DUDE!  Ladies and gentlemen, I think we have our first one-and-done player of the Tom Crean era (but it wouldn’t shock me for a second if he hung around for a few years — just seems like that type of kid).

    Thinking ahead…where do you play Trey Lyles in college? Do you go Christian Watford with him and a face up big 3. Do you utilize his footwork and back to the basket game and play him as a face up 4? If he keeps growing do you drop him in the middle as a 5?

    I cannot imagine 4 better freshmen in the country. Those  other 4 must have been held back 6 years or so.

    Coach Cal and others will still try to get this kid. Bank on it.  Crean should be recruiting this kid like he didn’t even pull the trigger for IU already.

    Kelin you’re giving me goosebumps!  I know some would say it’s likely this lineup wouldn’t happen due to some leaving for the NBA, but I dunno – Cody and others seem like the kind of kids who would look at what we’d have and stay another year to do something special . .. hopefully REPEAT as NCAA champs!

    What can you say about Lyles?  That kid is SPECIAL alraeady.

    The more I watch the more impressed i am. Good god i would argue he is ready to play on our team next season. This kid is going to be something special, at every level he plays at.
