HD Video: First look at Indiana Elite Team Indiana

by in Video | April 10th, 2011

The 2011 spring debut for Indiana Elite Team Indiana was a successful one.

In front of an unusually large crowd for an early AAU event, Hanner Perea, Jeremy Hollowell, Ron Patterson and Yogi Ferrell took the court at North Central for the first time together.

And the four IU commits did not disappoint as Indiana Elite crushed the Hancock County All-Stars, 103-63, in a pool play game of the IndyBall.com Shootout.

Ferrell caught fire from the perimeter and led the way with 29 points. Hollowell, who committed to IU a little over two weeks ago, added 13 and Perea and Patterson each pitched in 12 points. Peter Jurkin did not travel to Indianapolis for the tournament.

Here are a few HD quality highlights from the win: (Note: You can expand the video to full screen by using the arrows in the bottom right hand corner of the video player):

We’ll have no shortage of content from the IndyBall.com Shootout over the next few days, but here’s a video interview with 2012 Hamilton Southeastern guard Gary Harris after his second pool play game at North Central on Saturday afternoon.

The five-star junior talked about the AAU season getting underway, Indiana, a timeline for cutting his school list, a new school in his recruiting picture and more:

And here’s a dunk by Harris from a pool play game against Spiece Indiana Select 2012:

Update: We’ve added a longer highlight reel of Harris after the jump:

IU assistant watches Huntington Prep’s Djimde on Thursday

by in Recruiting | April 8th, 2011

Indiana assistant coach Tim Buckley was in Huntington, West Virginia on Thursday to watch Ibrahima Djimde, according to Jody Demling of The Courier-Journal.

The 6-9, 230-pound Mali, Africa native recently received his college entrance test score, which is leading to more recruiting interest. He’s a member of the 2011 recruiting class.

Djimde, who goes by the nickname “Ibby,” is rated the No. 53 center nationally by ESPN.com.

Here are some quotes on Djimde from Huntington Prep coach Rob Fulford from an interview conducted by Zach Osterman for Inside the Hall back in February:

“I saw him in the spring, and I didn’t like him. I saw him in the summer and liked him a little, but he still wasn’t ready. Since we saw him in the spring until we got him in August, he was a different player. From Aug. 18 to now, he’s a completely different player.

“He improves every day. He’s a four-year kid that’s gonna work hard. He can defend the four and the five.

“There is some interest there (from Indiana). He plays so hard, he’s one of those kids that, he’s intriguing because of his size and athletic ability, and then he plays hard.”

2011 forward Jamari Traylor looking at four

by in Recruiting | April 7th, 2011

According to information published earlier this week by The Lawrence Journal World, 2011 IMG Academy forward Jamari Traylor is down to four schools: Indiana, Kansas, Mississippi State and St. John’s.

Traylor took an unofficial visit to Bloomington on Mar. 28, but has yet to take an official visit to any of his finalists. He played in Sunday’s NeXt All-American Classic at the Sears Centre in Chicago and finished with 11 points.

The 6-8, 215-pound senior told the Journal World that he doesn’t have a favorite among his final four schools, but added that he plans to make a visit to Lawrence in the coming weeks.

The potential early departures of the Morris twins — Marcus and Markieff — to the NBA Draft could open immediate playing time for the Chicago native at Kansas.

But despite rumors last week that the Morris twins would opt for the draft, the Journal World reported today that both Marcus and Markieff are still undecided. The deadline for underclassmen to declare for the draft is Apr. 24.

Update: The Morris twins will enter the draft and have signed with an agent.

Here’s a link to an in-depth Q & A we did with Traylor last month.

The spring signing period begins on Apr. 13.

Trevon Bluiett walked calmly with his teammates into the press room of Conseco Fieldhouse. A smile beamed from ear to ear on the face of the heralded freshman.

As the media peppered Park Tudor coach Ed Schilling and junior Yogi Ferrell with five minutes of questions following the Panthers’ 2A state championship victory, Bluiett had yet to say a word.

“Trevon, keep it down over there,” Schilling joked.

Bluiett smiled at his head coach and then promptly answered a question on his 21-point performance against Hammond Bishop Noll as if he’d been there many times before.

Complete poise. No hesitation. Total confidence. These are usually not words used to describe a freshman, but they seem to fit Bluiett.

As Noll focused much of its attention on stopping Ferrell, the future IU point guard looked to Bluiett and the freshman delivered.

8-of-13 from the field. 4-of-6 from the foul line. Eight rebounds. Two steals. Two blocks.

But perhaps most impressive of all, a knack for being in the right place at the right time.

“He’s got a high IQ for the game,” Bluiett’s father Reynardo told Inside the Hall on Tuesday. “Just playing along with Yogi for a year, he reads him and his other teammates and knows tendencies pretty well. He studies the game and always seems to be a step ahead of everybody as far as knowing where to be.”
