HD Video: First look at Indiana Elite Team Indiana

The 2011 spring debut for Indiana Elite Team Indiana was a successful one.

In front of an unusually large crowd for an early AAU event, Hanner Perea, Jeremy Hollowell, Ron Patterson and Yogi Ferrell took the court at North Central for the first time together.

And the four IU commits did not disappoint as Indiana Elite crushed the Hancock County All-Stars, 103-63, in a pool play game of the IndyBall.com Shootout.

Ferrell caught fire from the perimeter and led the way with 29 points. Hollowell, who committed to IU a little over two weeks ago, added 13 and Perea and Patterson each pitched in 12 points. Peter Jurkin did not travel to Indianapolis for the tournament.

Here are a few HD quality highlights from the win: (Note: You can expand the video to full screen by using the arrows in the bottom right hand corner of the video player):

Love the way Yogi can flash to the lane, draw the defense, then have the vision and awareness dump it off to the open man (who can -finish-). The 2 mins here are the most fun I’ve had watching Indiana basketball in at least 3 yrs… And the scary part is they have all summer to get more in-tune w/ each other. Special request: more please…

Looks like IU vs Northwestern in 2012!

Wow….I can’t get enough of this….please, I need more footage!!!

  • Kelin Blab

I honestly think I could average 6-8ppg now with IU in my late 30′s with Yogi running the point. He makes it look ez for him and his teammates. Wow.

  • IU_Fan_99

who is Obij going to play for?

  • Anonymous

Does anybody know where in Bloomington the Adidas May Classic is played and what time the games are?

  • oldred1976

Thanks for the film. I feel better already. No matter what happens next year we all have this footage to fall back on, thanks again

His left hand is just nasty!

  • MillaRed

A glimpse into the crystal ball. And these guys are just juniors? And Cody and company will be waiting for them?

I love them all but Yogi is the key. Notice how everyone on the floor benefits from him? His left handed strong dribble is just tough to defend. He is years ahead of the game with the left hand.

  • IUeconAlum

I’m surprised the gym was not sold out in red. I have a feeling this summer there will be more Hoosiers following these guys.

Went to this event and watched both games………… Wanted to go home and sleep until Nov 2012!! These kids make our future look ridiculous.

Yogi is a known factor. this class is all brought together thru him. In my mind the single most important piece in the 2012 class. What this video does not show is his tenacity on the def end also. Kid hit 8 3pt shots in this game….. play off and he hits jumpers, scoot in and he flys by you. The 2nd game was a better barometer because the kids they played were pretty quick and athletic. Yogi still had his way with his quickness.

Patterson is probably the most underated player in this class. His body is physically ready for the next level, he has an excellent jump shot and could very well match the athletic ability of Hanner and Gary Harris. If you missed at the 1:03 mark of this film Buss at 6’2 gets high enough to hit his head on the back board. In warm-ups it was virtually an NBA dunk contest….. Kid can fly. On def he probably impressed me the most, he got his hands on alot of passes and has an unbelievable 1st step. Depending on how these guys play at IU and who stays for 4 years i think right now Ron has a chance to be the guy who puts up the most pts in his career.

Hanner again is well known around these parts. Kid is a beast and can FLY. I was a bit disappointed in his defensive aggression, going against smaller kids in both games he rarely left his feet to attempt blocks. He has work to do on the offensive side but isnt as far away as most think he is. If he gets the ball in the post he is quick enough to get into a spot for a layup, has a decent 12-15ft jumper as well.

Hollowell is the one that impressed me the most. His highlight clips do the kid no justice at all. In his clips he looks like a shooter with decent athletecism, in person he is a physically stronger version of Sheehey with a much much better offensive game. The kid can score if he needs to and has a sweet stroke from the outside. If you watch the sequence at 1:10 in this clip you will see what i mean. Misses a layup and goes right back up for the putback but loses the grip as he tried to dunk. I was pleased to see these talents.

On another note the game in between these 2 games was EG10 featuring Devin Davis and Colin Hartman along with V.J. Beachem and Zak Irvin

Davis is going to be a major playor, not extrememly athletic but above average. Has a decent jump shot as well, but has attitude and a big body and he uses that body well. I had to remind myself that these kids are Sophmores and try not to be too hard on them.

Hartman is physically about where Sheehey is now, skinny and athletic but posses a top notch jump shot. He will be a contributor for sure when he gets to bloomington.

The one kid that i thought had the most upside was Beachem, if his potential is half of what it looks like it should be he will be a top 20 player if not top 10 in the class of 2013. He looks great now but with 2 years to add muscle and polish his jumper he will be an absolute stud!

    Assembly hall and cook hall

  • Wmrobinson

With the rest of that lineup i think you might just get left open.

  • Wmrobinson

Did you see Yogi miss that free throw at 1:58? I dont think we need players like him.

  • IU_Fan_99

thanks! he reminds me of Mr. Jurkin…

  • Anonymous

I agree with everything that you’ve said! Great insight into all of this players! I’m looking forward to them stepping foot on campus and making instant impact!

  • Anonymous

Even if he was a horrible free throw shooter, which i highly doubt! I would still want this kid on my team! And i know you are jesting :P

  • Diesel

Yeah, he really isn’t as automatic as you’d like from the stripe. A bit Ronald Nored if you will, but I’m not complaining.

  • BobSaget829

Sounded like Hugh blew his load at the 1:30 mark.

  • millzy32

What tournaments will these guys be playing in that will actually give them some really good competition? I would expect a team filled with all of this skill would be favored in most AAU games no matter what but are they National Title AAU type caliber? Does anyone known this?

  • Anonymous

You have to be kidding me. That stinks, but it was probably the first time they have played together. Not the last. I bet they can’t wait to see those guys again, especially with Jurkin.

  • Anonymous

Yeah. It’s not like he has a good free throw routine/stroke/rhythm and still misses though. He could be coached up and get better.

  • Anonymous

Yogi is unreal! The toughest part about playing with Yogi is that you better have your hands up and be ready for a rocket. His vision is impressive.

  • Anonymous

If you knew nothing about basketball and just walked in and watched for 30 seconds, you’d ask “Who is number 11?”

He was good last year. He looks great now.

  • hoostheman

Think I read that IE only dressed 7 guys for that game. Not sure who, but it would have been the 3rd game of that day so anyone would be tired. As far as national title, there are always some great teams out there that throw multiple 5 stars together, but I have to imagine this team will be able to hang with pretty much anyone.

  • Anonymous

I got so excited watching that film that I made my wife watch it. She is an IU fan, but not nearly as much as me, but she said, “Who is that guy?” I told her the four guys going to IU, but she said, “that #11 is amazing!”

  • Anonymous

I think this is a very good team, one of the better teams in the country. They could win a national title if everyone’s healthy and they play well.

That being said, I don’t think they’re considered at the level of the BABC (Boston), Atlanta Celtics, Oakland Soldiers, for example. I’d guess if there were rankings they’d hover around the bottom of the top 10. Not sure if anyone does those, I don’t subscribe to premium sites.
