Report: Ferrell, Patterson, Perea to join forces

All four players currently committed to Indiana for its 2012 recruiting class will compete together this spring and summer for Indiana Elite – Team Indiana, according to Kyle Neddenriep of The Indianapolis Star.

Hanner Perea, Peter Jurkin, Ron Patterson and Yogi Ferrell will be teammates on the program’s top 17-and-under squad.

Ferrell played up a year with Austin Etherington, Cody Zeller and the 17-and-under team last summer and Patterson played with Indiana Elite One.

Neddenriep’s report did not mention who would be coaching the team.

Also of note in the report: Cathedral forward and IU commit Collin Hartman will move from Indiana Elite to the Eric Gordon All-Stars team that features Warren Central’s Devin Davis, Hamilton Southeastern’s Zak Irvin and Heritage Christian’s Basil Smotherman.

    Awesome. Gotta love this.

That should be a formidable team. Look forward to seeing them in action and having them get to Bloomington.

So, uh, any chance Harris could join this team?

SICK….even teams with TONS of talent typically take time to learn to play together…(Heat)….how awesome is it that not only will these kids have played against each other multiple times…most of them will have been teammates for at least a year b4 they get to IU…..gah I cannot wait to watch these guys along with Austin and Cody………its going to be rediculis…and we aren’t even talking about the 2013.2014 kids here….

hmm… doesn’t look like any defectors. Anyone want to change their predictions? This is awesome! They will already know how to play with one another. Just frickin’ awesome!!! Crean system + these players = exciting future. Never lost faith!

This really great news! Hartman and Davis shoring up their relationship is a positive as well.Think that Yogi working with Patterson is especially Big. Have to keep remembering to be patient!

this is gonna be sweet. seemed to me purdue had a huge advantage having hummel, moore, johnson and co. playing together in aau, and they came in pretty much gelled

  • Diesel

Surely they’ll have defensive rotations down by the time they get to Btown, no? I suggest Old Man Jerry for coach, you know these boys will be able to handle the pick and roll then.

If so, can the current bunch go watch them so they figure out how to do it?

  • Marsh21

Impressive to say the least. Wow, it’s good to be a Hoosier!

    Two words…..Road Trip!

If….IF you manage to somehow get by Yogi or Buss you then have Jurkin or Perea waiting on you. I don’t foresee IU’s opponents having anywhere near the field goal % they’re having this season.

And not that it really matters, but for national perceptions’ sake, all of them together on a powerhouse team may inflate some rankings (though Perea and Ferrel don’t have a lot of room to move up). I imagine Buss’ ranking is most likely to skyrocket from this setup.

DSR is moving to Spiece, according to Kyle Neddenriep.

Who is Kelin Blab? I thought that we got rid of that guy ages ago.

TO anyone who knows more than me (ie everyone) about these Elite and Gordon All Star Teams:

Do other states have them? What is your guess on the percentage of college freshmen who had played on one? What about in the Big Ten area? Are there any other colleges who can match these pipelines?

This seems like a great advantage for IU

I certainly don’t know the inner-workings of these AAU programs, but I like this recent trend. It reminds me of what Colangelo and Kzyrewski have done with USA Basketball. It appears that we just happen to have a great deal of talent to fill out several very good AAU teams right now. I think Indiana Elite stands above the rest, but I would suspect that we will continue to pursue guys on each onef of these squads.

There goes all my free weekends in the summer! AAU circuit it is.

  • MKH

These teams are everywhere, it’s just “club or travel” teams like in baseball or soccer where the kids play ouside of their school season…I think most states have a few elite programs where most of the top talent plays…not sure if any colleges have as good a connection as IU has to Indiana Elite right now, but I’m sure other’s have in the past

  • Kelin Blab

per request of dakich I had to go back to the blab

  • Kelin Blab

more than likely they will play in bloomington either n may or july

  • Bleeding Crimson

Not that I’m worried about losing any of our recruits but it sure wouldn’t hurt for us to attend as many of these games as possible sporting the IU gear.

No post that I have seen has predicted anyone will back out, although some are legitimately concerned. I will withhold judgement on Crean’s system until I see these players in that system. Or perhaps you can tell us all when we will win the next championship. I find it amusing how some people just know we are going to be champions when IU is probably the worst team in the conference at the moment. Sounds to me like you just want an argument.
