The inaugural, first-ever, never-before-seen ITH Podcast

by in Podcast | November 18th, 2010

We’re so 2004.

Yes, it’s true, Inside the Hall is adding to our media arsenal a weekly podcast. It’s not Bill Simmons — yet — but hopefully it fills a little bit of a void in the IU basketball world. Every Thursday morning, we’ll post a new installment of the podcast, hosted by this ginger and featuring all manner of Indiana basketball-related guests.

This round, we kept it simple, seeing as it was our first go at this foolishness. Dustin Dopirak, Indiana beat writer for the Bloomington Herald-Times and long-time friend of Inside the Hall, joined us in the ITH studios (my back porch) to chat about recruiting and the current team. We touched on Yogi Ferrell, Gary Harris and Jeremy Hollowell, Christian Watford, Maurice Creek and defense, among other things.

So give it a listen. Let us know what you think. Given that this is our first try, we absolutely value (and in fact beg you for) your opinion. Enjoy, and holler back. Also, much love to Peter Stevenson for acting as de facto producer for our first show.

(Alex’s Note: Little did Zach know, there was once, an Inside the Hall podcast. 3 episodes in fact. Waaaaay back in 2007. Good times.)

Here’s the direct link to listen or you can do so in the embedded media player below:

Nothing to do with the podcast, but just saw this story and thought I’d share it with Hoosier Nation. Interesting, in light of our Guy situation and the twists of college basketball.

not a good title Osterman. Back before your days on the Blog, Eamoon and Ryan were posting podcasts….check your facts good sir.

    yay!

    more please.

  • Joe

Can you post the link to the podcast audio file? I’d rather listen on my phone than in this browser.. Podcasts should be portable.
    Thanks!

do you have a link for it on iTunes?

  • Creanhouse Effect

Is this going to be up on iTunes?

…and, oh, how we pined to have him (in a previous name, anyway.)

Also not related to the podcast, but anyone who thought MVSU was a less-than-stellar opponent has to realize they definitely won’t finish last in their conference, because Alcorn St. is in there. They might be the worst D-I team I’ve ever seen–at one point they were losing to Purdue last night like 73-19. I felt better about scheduling Mississippi Valley St. immediately.

  • Luke72

Best commentary of the season. Better thought out, informative! Looking forward to future casts!

  • http://www.insidethehall.com/ Alex Bozich

No, we’ll have to look into that.

Love the podcast! Keep em coming.

FYI it’s nice to see a good ranking for the Hoosiers. 59th in the RPI. I know it’s not the coaches poll or USA Today but seeing us not ranked in the triple digits in something has me excited.

59? Ooh, root for the favorites to win their leagues, we’re on the bubble!

  • SeattleHoosier

    Love it! Keep ‘em coming.

Just a thought…you might consider video as it would be more entertaining (and informative) to see the dicussion. Plus, we want to see your porch!

I think this will be a nice addition to the repertoire. May I suggest a little contest for naming the Podcast amongst ITH followers?

    I suggest: The Hall Call

Side note: I think its time someone put out an APB on Jeremiah River’s confidence. Brutal.

  • BaseballBuc

Nice work. Didn’t we just talk about this? Lol. Do we have a possible fan mail or something maybe for fans to email the podcast or ask questions? That would be really helpful.

  • GFDave

Good stuff, thanks. Maybe “Hall Talk” works as a name.

  • Austin

If you get this onto iTunes, then I can listen on my car commute. :)

  • MillaRed

Very cool guys. Keep up the good work.

  • GFDave

My two cents on the Creek rehab topic is that he is probably exactly where you expect him to be at this point and with any luck he’ll be playing pretty well by mid-January. But, next season is when you’ll see him fully recovered, imo.

  • KCHoosier

Let’s get this on iTunes so I can automatically subscribe to it. I’d like to listen to this PODcast on my iPOD.

  • Bleeding Crimson

Great Job, as always. Direct, staying on topic and with a little humor. Keep up the good work and I look forward to future Podcast. I like the idea of video as suggested.

  • http://www.insidethehall.com/ Alex Bozich

    I’ll look into it.

  • the 203

i have to say, love the recordings in the intro. it would be awesome if you guys could find gus johnson freaking out when vj3 gets the and-1 jumper in ot against minnesota and put it in there

  • 11th and Done (Dunn)

nice name. haven’t seen it yet. it would work nicely on a t-shirt.

  • 11th and Done (Dunn)

    like twice.

  • 11th and Done (Dunn)

reminds me too much of “coffee talk” on saturday night live. “we just landed cody zeller, i’m faklempt. my girlfriend has a not so secret crush on verdell jones, talk amongst yourselves.”

  • HoosierFromCT

please do, Alex. I would love to download these and listen in the car on the way to work.

  • joe

is it possible to put a “table of contents” on the timeline of the podcast? ie recruiting from 0:00 – 4:30, current team 4:30 – 7:00, and so on. just a thought so we could skip around the podcast

  • Anonymous

I would love to see it on Zune as well. Fantastic job, guys!

  • GFDave

Today on Hall Talk: Tom Crean’s tanning secrets and how to tape an ankle. Funny stuff.

  • stonaroni

Who cares who bought Moses a plane ticket to the US? Does that really matter? $500? How about the money the NCAA will make off the player over 4 years in their TV/NCAA Tourn contract?

Give me a break. Let the kid play, he came here to improve his life and chances at success, not do anything illegal!

  • Cpjason311

    “Hall Pass”

  • Anonymous

Nicely done guys. I will definitely listen every week. I am guessing Elston’s injury is nothing more than a bruise because I haven’t seen anything. Has anyone heard if he is going to miss any action?

  • 11th and Done (Dunn)

nice. i’ll give it a shot.
Today on Hall Talk: big ten sleepers and coke zero vs. diet coke, tom crean has cast his vote.

  • Anonymous

Great work guys. I hate to make a comment when several other people have already said the same thing, but ya gotta show support for new endeavors. I’ll definitely be a loyal listener if these continue. Also, questions from the readers would be good imo.

  • Yogi Kelin Harris

    Good podcast kids…..

The Harris Hollowell debate is interesting. I have always been in the camp IU cannot take both and I am not sure both want to compete for the same wing positions at the same school. I know Alex thinks otherwise, but I am now of the camp that Hollowell may end up getting Jeremiah Davised! I think IU is still very interested but they are VERY interested in Harris too and are now in a position to ‘not wait’ around on a kid.

I know Hollowell recently said schools will wait if they really want him, but some schools like OSU and maybe IU don’t have too. We will see how this story ends. I think Harris is NBA Eric Gordon type of talent

Outstanding job, please keep the podcasts coming each week. This site is ridiculously good.

    “The Hall Monitor”?

  • IUMIKE1

Really liked it. If I could only add one other thing it would be video.

  • Hoosiersincebirth

I like the new addition of having a podcast. The topics were very good, kudos to the producer. I do have a suggestion on the technical side of things to make it a little better. I’m not sure what your technical capabilites are but I would suggest giving everyone their own microphone. This would reduce the fluxuation of audio volume between Zach and the other guests. Just some food for thought.

Keep in mind this suggestion is coming from someone who works in the television industry. I’m always looking for ways to improve things. Don’t get me wrong, the audio levels were fine. I’m merely suggesting a way to slightly improve the quality. Go Hoosiers!

Way to come out of the gates strong with this, guys. I really enjoyed it, and am looking forward to seeing where you take it.

I wanted to piggyback Hoosiersincebirth’s point about the audio levels though. A couple of extra mics and a cheap mixer from Radio Shack will improve the quality significantly. I was listening while eating in a busy lunch spot with my player at full volume and I couldn’t hear you very well.

We have slipped to 68th at current moment. This also has Mich St in the 30′s and Purdon’t in the high 40′s.

Couldn’t agree more. Moses shouldn’t have any suspension and neither should Guy but Moses now has 9 games and Guy already has 3 and building.

    The NCAA is ridiculous.

Meanwhile Cam Newton still playing like nothing is going on. So bogus.
