Site News: Hey, you, signup for a Disqus Profile

  • 09/07/2010 2:41 pm in

One of the challenges of a booming community is moderating comments. By default, if you make a comment as a guest, your comment must first be filtered through a moderator before it appears on the site. This is done primarily to prevent profanity and limit the trolls from infiltrating the site.

To address this, we’ve added two comment moderators: eph521 and Kelin Zeller. Both have graciously volunteered their time to assist us and for that we are thankful. You’ll notice a blue star by each of their names in the comments.

(It didn’t, for the record, take much to convince Kelin. He’s on the site more than any of us. Only kidding, Kelin.)

Beyond that, the best course of action is to encourage all of our commenters to get a Disqus Profile.

If you’re already commenting frequently without a Disqus Profile, you can find your existing comments using your email address and bring them into your new Disqus Profile. Easy enough, right?

You only need three things to sign up: A username, a valid email address and a password.

Once you’re registered, your comments will no longer require moderation, you’ll be able to customize an avatar that will appear with all of your posts, you’ll be able to track and subscribe to the comments of others and you’ll also have the ability to edit or delete your comments.

What are you waiting for?

For the record…I am computer teacher who MUST be in front of a computer ALL DAY…not a bad gig….until they block this site they I must go proxy on them…shhh

Just curious….is there anyone that is over 2K comments or am I the Anderson Silva of ITH…just dominating….

Please for the sake of Alex not firing me from my volunteer gig….create a profile, I can only anticipate moderating the day zeller signs or IU eclispes last season win total 8 weeks into the season. Also, get an avatar and a solid, yet versatile name…..Obviously the personal and player name set up is already taken but go with something decent….

  • If I hadn’t already had this username for a couple of other websites, it would’ve been fun just to have my name be a number, like IU’s jerseys! No name, just a number … it’s all about the team! You got a back-up name when Zeller chooses us (or goes to UNC or BUTTler)? Kelin Goff doesn’t quite have the same ring to it. How about “Kelin ‘Yogi’ Blab”?

I, for one, welcome our new comment overlords.

  • millzy32

I have a profile but it never worked correctly for whatever reason so I always just sign in as a guest and use the same name. I guess I’ll try again.

  • Old Sports Dude

Kellin are you related to Uwe Blab? I have always wondered? Also do they have any of those computer jobs left? Sounds like sweet gig.

  • marcusgresham

Did Kelin actually volunteer, or was he just granted squatters’ rights?

I have a profile, which comes up at home automatically, but I have to click the “post as…” button when I’m at work or at the library–I’m not sure if it acknowledges that it’s the “real me” or not. I’ve never paid attention to see if the photo of me and the Lombardi Trophy pops up next to my name when I’m here–guess I’m about to find out.

if you have not seen this yet, watch it! gave me goosebumps….

    Welcome back Mo!

  • BaseballBuc

Kelin: I don’t yet have 2k comments, but I do have a 4:1 comment to “like” ratio, which is pretty dominant. 🙂

Ok, lets try this comment thing out. Go Big Red!

I think you are a great poster, and will be a good moderator. This site seems to be growing pretty fast, and this will make it easier to converse.

  • Luke72

With best regards from your Hooser Home Champanion

Just when I thought I couldn’t get any more fired up for the return of Mo this comes along. Good goood stuff thanks.

Thinking about volunteering to stay up at night and exercise the knee he is rehabbing while he sleeps. We can’t wait for your return big guy.

    Let’s GO MO !!!

  • GFDave

Alex, I like it that you’re being pro-active about the trolls and name calling, etc. Thanks for that. I think Kelin and eph will do a fine job.

  • GFDave

Its in the middle of the week. I wonder what could be so important as to have him interrupt his school week for a trio to B’town 🙂

I was constantly having trouble one way or another when I was using the Internet Explorer browser so I tried using Firefox and haven’t went back and have not had any problems since.

It feels to me that his commitment will lock down Zeller. Having two of his closest friends (AE being the other) on board will make this decision easier. And he is absolutely welcome to pull a BJ Young and commit before going home.

And completely off topic. Chane Behanan announced this morning he is going to Louisville. Not a big surprise that we did not land him. We got in on him a little too late and never really seemed to have enough interest to make it a real possibility.

Now seems as good a time as any to actually change my picture to something basketball-related.

  • Anonymous

Hopefully he will become a huge thorn in Kintackee’s side for years to come. Maybe some day he will stand on the free throw line on the other end of the court and then catch an inbounds pass and turn and shoot one that goes through the net and beats them by one just as the buzzer sounds. Duke isn’t my favorite team….. but that is a priceless memory. Couldn’t have happened to a more deserving group !

  • oldred1976

Alex am i to understand that Kelin has been reading over our shoulders?! Thank God he’s not an English teacher. My sister in law was an English teacher never wrote them a letter, she was a great gal just intimidated me. Anyway heard Yogi’s visiting tomorrow let’s hope for good news

  • Yogi Kelin Zeller

First…not related to Uwe Blab but when my dad introduced me to IU basketball during Zeke’s time there, shortly after Uwe became one of my favorite players because my other favorite player Kareem Abdul Jabaar sported the same ‘sky hook’. By the way…every post player who does not have a sky hook is less than a man to me…IT IS UNSTOPPABLE!

Yogi visiting tomorrow is already good news and when BJ Young going elsewhere, I am going to call now a Yogi commit within 2 weeks.

  • Yogi is not visiting tomorrow.

  • The_Hall_Monitor

off topic but this is a sick video of victor oladipo cant wait to see what he does at hoosier hysteria http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-oba2_gTjA&feature=related

What’s up all. Looking forward to commenting more in the future.

    GO IU!!!!

  • Yogi Kelin Zeller

Each time I watch this video and others…to quote Chris Matthews…I get a tingle up my leg.

  • JerryCT

gary – Are you lionel ritchie ? just wondering. If so I loved you at the Bermuda Music Festival. Millared is stuck on groups like Stray Cats

  • JerryCT

I like the move. Still Kelin Zeller sounds to me too much like Helen Keller but lets hope we land him soon.

If you want some Kareem stories one of my boyhood friends was his captain at UCLA for several years . I am sure I can hook you up.

Jeremy Hollowell – “Mad I rolled my ankle first game of open gym!! SMH rolled it bad too starting to swell up can’t move it” and “On my way to the doctor =( it ain’t stop hurting yet!”

    uh oh!

  • BaseballBuc
