Aug. 18, 2010 - Madrid, C. A. de Madrid, Spain - MADRID, 18/08/2010.- US national basketball team player Eric Gordon (C) and Rajon Rondo (2R), during the trainning session held by the team at the Caja Magica pavillion in Madrid, Spain, 18 August 2010, ahead of their Madrid Tournament matches against Lithuania and Spain the upcoming weekend.

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports tweeted a short while ago that Rajon Rondo was cut from Team USA’s roster. Such a cut brings the roster down from 13 to the final number of 12, meaning former Hoosier Eric Gordon will be a member of the team for the FIBA World Championships in Turkey.

Gordon likely won’t get a lot of minutes, but he’ll provide a shooter off the bench along with Stephen Curry, a facet of his game Jerry Colangelo noted about two weeks ago as a reason why he had a shot at making the final roster.

The World Championships begin on Saturday. Team USA will take on Croatia.

congratulatons EJ. Now where do I get the jersey?

I knew that EJ was hurt in his one year at IU but there were tons of posters on every site who proclaimed he would never make it in the NBA. The worst ones were on the Indy Star and on the Hoosier Scoop. It just shows the folks who know basketball made comments on this site that he would be great in the NBA and he is! He will be an all star for many years to come and it is nice seeing an Indiana kid and former Hoosier do well. He has made the naysayer shut up!

EJ has a TON of talent and even though he’s a bit of an undersized 2 guard he plays with tenacity and his shooting touch will continue to improve for another couple of years. The guy can score the basket and will be a top 10 SG in the league during his prime. Maybe not a top 5 SG but his ceiling could potentially be that high.

EJ had a fantastic game for Team USA today in their final exhibition matchup. Stroked the ball with ease from deep, scored a dunk on a nice follow, and played within himself and the offense on his way to an 18 point night. I think EJ is a shorter, stronger, Stephen Curry with a better ability to finish around the rim. He really is a special talent and the fact that he did as well as he did at IU with an injury to his shooting hand says a lot about his talent level, his work ethic, and his passion for the game of basketball.

Whew. I’m getting a bit worked up. I’m going to wear my #23 jersey when I watch the team on Sat. Hope he gets some PT I think he has shown a lot of good stuff whenever he has been given PT.

good to see gordon make the squad, especially over rondo. rondo is a good player, however not a consistent scoring threat. in international play, you have to throw as many scorers at the other guys as possible. it’s a little different than the nba.

with that said, in looking at the makeup of the entire roster, i would be surprised if we win the tournament. billips is to old, odom is to inconsistent and i am afraid the other guys may begin to pout to much as the officiating will be much different than they are accustomed.
