Indiana leading for B.J. Young?

  • 07/19/2010 7:54 pm in

Matt Norlander, the editor of College Hoops Journal and a contributor to the Dagger at Yahoo Sports, reported earlier today via Twitter that Indiana is the top school for 2011 point guard B.J. Young.

Here are Norlander’s tweets:

PG BJ Young, the No. 21 Scout.com ’11 recruit, just told me his top five, in order, are: Indiana, Ark, Baylor, Marquette, Illinois State

He also said Prov, Purdue, Iowa have offered scholarships within the past 2 weeks, and Va. Tech has shown interest but not pulled trigger

This report by Norlander, coupled with our story last week on Young, support our decision to move him ahead of Jeremiah Davis into the second spot on the 2011 Recruiting Board heading into the second 10-day July evaluation period.

Young said last week that Indiana is “probably one of the top schools I would like to go to.”

Scout.com ranks Young, who has yet to play a full high school season, the No. 4 point guard nationally in the 2011 class.

I don't think it does….out of both classes Yogi is the best pure point guard…even moreso than BJ Young….

Also, this may sound crazy and reaching but….BJ Young has been compared to Marquis Teague, only bigger….not saying BJ is one and done, but we all know Teague is. Doubtful BJ is at IU very very long….just a guess. Yogi would have that position available to him.

yeah kind of left that out…was really impressed with CZ's game in the videos that Alex recently posted…A TON of talent in that kid and also has a bunch of upside with a little muscle and practice with the team in COOK HALL…It will be a chip in our should if he doesnt commit, but not saying we cant produce without him thats all…Especially with some of the bigs in the 12' class..I would love to see Hulls dump it down to CZ in 2011 have CZ draw the double team while hulls relocates, CZ finds him (He's a smart ballplayer/good passer), and Hulls burries the 3 ball

great post. Spot-on with all this stuff. It'll be nice when we can move on…

With all the guard play needed in CTC's offense, I think we'd still have a chance at Yogi. Especially with Young's size (6'4), he could play alongside Hulls or Yogi.

I agree with almost everything you said..Unlike a lot of people I feel like the 2010 class is pretty damn good…U have Vic who I think we all know has a ton of upside. He hangs out with Creek a bunch and with Creeks work ethic and passion to be great its going to rub off. He definitely has the athleticism to change the momentum of the game with one monsterous slam dunk…I think a lot of people are underestimating Sheehey also. This kid can play. He can hit shots from 3 point, mid, and at the rim. He has a knack for crashing the boards at both ends also. He ran track in high school which means he is going to fit right in with Creans system of play. He also has the frame to fill out into a pretty strong kid which is needed in the BIG TEN. Expect him to play this season ladies and gentlemen…As for Guy we will have to wait and see. I guess i'm just real optimistic but I have a feeling he is going to be pretty good. If Hulls says he's a good player and the Coaches think that he can step in and start then he has to have some sort of game

So I really can't complain with Tom Crean and his work at IU so far. I feel like there is no warrant for the pressure rising on him. His kids are going to class and his recruiting is just now getting to full throttle. Just take a look at all the good players in the 2011 and 2012 classes that include IU on there list of schools. Why? Because they see what he is doing at the school and he is recruiting them well, and in the right way, not like scumapari and denim boy

Agreed; having Cody say yes to IU is almost as big as Cody saying no to UNC, so to do so with one decision not only tells other recruits that IU can land big (in-state) talent, it can land it over and opposed to a HOF coach at a storied program (with a pair of very recent championships). Who he says yes to is just as important as to whom he says no.

Wouldn't getting BJY and CZ be the biggest boost you've felt since the day Crean said, “It's Indiana” …? Crean isn't a “help is on the way” kind of guy, but it would certainly be nice sitting in the back of our minds if we endure a 20-point loss to Purdue or MSU or something.

IU lands BJ Young and Zeller, IU is in the tourney for the 2011-2012 season and finish in the top 3 in the big ten. …… they sweep Purdue and in a match up at home vs KY and their #1 recruiting class with Teague v Young, IU wins by 13, fans rush the court as IU has beaten a top 5 time to put them back into the rankings…..

If Randle and Dawson go to schools not named Purdue, I think the Boil[er]s will be in the bottom half of the B10 starting in 2011. The combination of IU making the tourney, PU missing the tourney, and IU beating UK will probably be the best year for most IU fans since our deep tourney run in '01-'02 (I know we had a highly ranked team in '07-'08, but the way that thing fell apart soured anything that team accomplished — which wasn't much, actually).

I think I'll put the bottle on ice as soon as BJY and CZ sign their LOIs…
