The state of Indiana continues to produce top-level talent and the class of 2013 is no different. Watch what a trio of sophomores-to-be — Warren Central’s Devin Davis Jr., Hamilton Southeastern’s Zak Irvin and Ft. Wayne Northrop’s Bryson Scott — had to say at this past weekend’s adidas May Classic in the embedded media players below:

Nice to see Ej's dad back in bloomington

  • Diesel

Have some good connections to the Devin Davis Jr, plays for Greg Graham at Warren Central and on the Eric Gordon All-Stars for AAU. Would be great pipeline both could be to IU. Gordon made the comment that he would like for Devin to be able to play at IU. Me too.

  • GFDave

    They are young, aren't they?

  • IUfanPurduePhD

What lead you to that conclusion? Oh, yeah, Devin's statement about being able to get all the food you want at the same place you play basketball. Crean should simply fill that room with Doritos and Mountain Dew for Devin's next visit … no 14- or 15-year-old kid can turn down that combination—we'd probably get a verbal out of him that day!!!

  • IUfanPurduePhD

Oh, and throw in some Xboxes on big screens in there too. I think that's a high school freshman's version of nirvana.

  • HoosNation

Don't forget the newest SportsIllustrated Swimsuit calendar on the wall somewhere. SCORE!!

What other states compare with the output of high level basketball talent as Indiana?

If by “stirs them up” with your Pritchard stuff you mean “makes them laugh,” the yes, COMMENCE THE STIRRING!

Did you get any insight on Guy?

  • walton

lackluster message boards lately – but I guess we have been addressing about every issue and topic there is the last few weeks – anything left?

Anything on the slate for upcoming story topics ITH? Dissection of big ten teams next year and how IU can match up (or other teams on schedule)? Any other story ideas bloggers?

or maybe we should get hardwood to stir things up a bit again?

  • JerryCT

hardwood could do it … or … all I have to do is point out all the things Pritchard ( the new Taber )does that no body else on the team can do …. that usually stirs things up.

Actually , all the coverage of the recruits has been good and served a very good purpose. I think alot of folks who were worried about recruiting feel better becasue they are better informed. They see CTC is working his butt off even though they may still be worried about the eventual result.

I think it has calmed things down

Did I mention how TP always helps break the press 1) getting the inbounds pass or 2) screening the dribbler to shake him loose from his defender . He always recognizes and is always there.

So I met both Crean and McClain at the tailgate tour stop in Chicago yesterday. I didn't know McClain was going to speak, but he did and really stole the show. Completely ignored the mic and was loud and walking all over the place. I got to talk to him for about 5 min. afterwards too. Great guy and I loved his energy. Looks to be an excellent addition to the staff.

Walton I have never been a pritch hater but found myself not a pritch fan….JerryCT has made some good pritch arguments, which is why for me, I see him bouncing back this year and NOT transferring. The frosh year pritch we all loved and just had a tough year last year. His PU game gave us hope but just could not sustain that level of play. I blame Crean for keeping him on the move too much, when he does have a solid post game, just never gets the touches.

  • Kelin Blab

I have conceded VJ3 in order to be on the floor, like he should, needs to play the one. He cannot come off the bench, he is our best player, and we are better when he is on the floor. So I will live with his turnovers if he gives me his 15-5-5. Interesting JR won't see the point again…..is that your other scholly?

  • mmarsden

A little. He did say if Guy is who they think he is, it looks like he will start and just went through the starting 5 and pointed out how nice it will be to get Watford back to the 3 spot, because then you have a pretty big lineup with some athleticism. Also mentioned how they really want to see him get some blocked shots and boards. Also is a decent free throw shooter, if he can learn to get to the line.

  • Of curiousity what was the starting 5 he mentioned? Creek watford jones elston guy?

  • mmarsden

That was it. I also asked Crean who would see more playing time at the point between Hulls and Verdell and said it would be Verdell (as most would expect) but Hulls will still get plenty of time there.

  • walton

I think your effect to stir people up with your Pritch love is wearing off – I think people are just discrediting your statements anymore (i think some really think you are brothers). But at the same time you may be swaying people's perception of him, because I for one am slowly trying to get back on the Pritchard bandwagon thanks to his biggest fan. Pritchard is going to be a beast next year – wait and see (did I really just say that)(then again he could be as big of a bust as he was last year:)

  • walton

Watford back to the 3 spot……….he really could be a whole different player then.

  • marcusgresham

Yeah, we turned into cable news–beating the dead horse 'til it ruptured open for the vultures to pick it clean

  • hoosierboy

Is anyone else getn excited for next years possibilities? I know we won't be great, but definitely very competitive! However, it will be crucial for Crean to get some future talent locked up. We will be mediocre at best if we don't land some good talent in 2011, 2012, and 13. We can't afford to have more average recruiting classes. We need a stud pg and big eventually. Time will tell if the top talent chooses to go with our beloved Hoosiers!

  • Diesel

Kenny Kaminski tells Jody Demling he is a MSU lean right now….how does that affect your 2012 predictions? Kids going to make a decision early by end of July.

  • Kelin Blab

Diesel with 2012 is like Hooters…if the hot waitress is serving another table….don't worry there is another hot waitress with the EXACT same outfit on waiting to serve you…(thank GOD my wife doesn't read ITH)

I think with 2012 the pecking order is….

Tier 1- Perea, Patterson, DSR, Gary Harris
Tier 2- Yogi, Hollowell, Kaminski, Jurkin, Marrero, Hammons

Crean has some room to play with here….He CANNOT lose out on all of the tier one guys, I think he has a great shot at 3 of them. Gary Harris is headed towards 5star best player in the country status….Patterson and Perea are not too far behind. Perea could be one and done.

  • marsh21

This is good news as Watford needs the 3 position. I hope Verdell is working on his passing and ball handling skills this summer!

  • cooper

i just can't get in to caring about 14yr olds playing basketball

  • IUfanPurduePhD

    Thanks mmarsden!

  • Kelin Blab

Cooper it is early and when a recruit likes the distance of the goodies from the gym…..you can't get too excited just yet.

  • marcusgresham

Unfortunately he also helps break the backboard every time he goes to the free throw line

  • marcusgresham

I could see that line up in a 2-3 or 1-2-2 zone having some long arms to throw over. Think I'd put Creek on the point of the 1-2-2 if that were the one you chose to play, but could you imagine Watford's big spider arms out there harassing the point?

  • HoosNation

I just wonder how long the leash is if Verdell keeps turning it over as he did last season. I hope that its not as long as the one he had for Pritchard. I think that lineup is going to surprise a lot of people, not to mention who we have over there on the bench. Be prepared to be pleasantly surprised next season. Player development is going to be the biggest factor in this off-season. VJ at point, Guy at center, Watford at new position, Elston with calming down a little- there is a lot to work on so do it do it do it do it!!

What do you guys think the odds are that the players/coaches read ITH?

  • it's Indiana

I'm a huge fan of the 2-3 zone with this lineup! You hit the nail on the head with that one.

  • Here is some IU basketball news of sorts for you. A buddy of mine saw Bawa at big red the other day. He also recently saw Creek at Papa John's and asked him about his knee. He said it is getting better. That is the best I can do!
