adidas May Classic video: Aaron Thomas

2011 forward Aaron Thomas, who said on Saturday that he has been offered a scholarship by Indiana, met with the media following a pool play game at Assembly Hall. The 6-5 Thomas, who averaged over 22 points during his junior season at Cincinnati Aiken, is playing this spring and summer with the Queen City Prophets:

He answers questions politely and with yes sir, no sir and IU feels like home to him. I like that.

  • Kelin Blab

    I feel comfortable here…..
    I felt at home…..
I want to be a part of this….(while looking into the camera)

I will also take his lead on the scholarship situtation. Are you concerned about that? No Sir! Not concerned …….

  • JerryCT

He is officially my favorite prospect . I think he fits CTC's scheme , he is a scorer, and he loves us.

  • IUfanPurduePhD

Strange to think he needs to play PG at the next level standing at 6'4″ … maybe he's our back-up plan for JDavis? Thomas sure seems eager to commit (“by the end of July”) and it seems like it's going to come down to IU and Xavier/UC (I wonder why Thad Matta isn't involved?). I'd love to see video of his play!

  • Kelin Blab

Hopefully someone can produce some highlights of Aaron to erase the memory of his current you tube video….

OSU fans are actually pissed that Matta was not involved earlier. Interesting he didn't even mention them. I don't think he is a back up plan for J. Davis, moreso for Mo Creek if or when he leaves early.

I wonder how other coaches are going to sell against IU's scholly situtation. Does Crean tell certain kids there WILL be a scholly for you. I am still expecting a transfer or two this year.

  • Looked very solid today, although I didn't get very many video clips.

  • IUfanPurduePhD

Ha, yeah, it made me smile when he smiled about IU. I loved his genuine enthusiasm about IU/Crean/campus.

  • IUfanPurduePhD

Re: OSU — that's good to hear. But I guess I'd be more concerned if X and UC weren't involved since he's in their backyard.

Re: JDavis vs. Mo Creek — that's what I was thinking, but when Thomas talked about playing the 1 in college, it got my mind turning. I want Mo Creek to stay all four years, but I recognize it's a possibility that he could go pro after his junior year (2012).

Yeah, seems like the scholly situation could be a garden of backstabbing for other coaches to use against IU … but the kids that want to come to IU won't be deterred by that sort of thing (didn't even seem to be a concern to Thomas). I'd really like the transfer situation to happen sooner rather than later so we can stop worrying/talking about it.

And I'd definitely appreciate some footage–I couldn't even find anything on YouTube–although everything I've read about him seems to scream “scorer,” so I'm guessing the video would be him knocking down shot after shot after shot…

  • IUfanPurduePhD

Thanks for all the hard work you're putting in this weekend!

  • GFDave

Yeah, there's been quite a bit of noise from blogger pundits about how Crean screwed up 2011 schollies, but neither Zeller nor Thomas were concerned about it in the least. I guess they have more faith in Crean than some of our fans.

  • GFDave

I liked his interview, but I liked DSR's a little more. DSR oozed leadership.

  • GFDave

I like the interviews a bit more truthfully. They tell me more about a prospect than watching an uber athlete dunk on poor Ollie. Not that I won't watch game vid, so don't let me stop you.

  • HoosNation

Based solely on these interviews, I think that we are only signing 2 of these players. Thomas and DSR. There is a slim chance that we get Zeller, but I feel that he is going to Butler. KK could land here too, but maybe 5% chance. I could be wrong, but that's about a 5% chance too!! Haha. I think talking recruiting is like predicting the weather. It sounds good when they say tomorrows gonna be sunny and 80, but then it actually rains and barely gets 65. So….. tomorrows forecast: Sunny and 80 degrees. Enjoy!!

  • bluegrassHoosier

Wow, Thomas' video cracked me up….and I loved it!!!!
He just lit up talking IU. Poor kid would make a terrible poker player.

I have afeeling Zeller and JD aren't happening. I do, however, see Perea, DSR, and Thomas as pretty solid leans. And I don't see how we could go wrong with that.

Kaminskis seemed interested, but played it a bit close to the vest.

I am still chuckling at Thomas trying to act like his options were still open. I'd bet the farm the kid has a full house. 😉

  • IUfanPurduePhD

According to the IndyStar article and Rivals, Thomas doesn't have an offer yet … To have that much enthusiasm about IU and not have an offer certainly says something!

  • IUfanPurduePhD

Surprisingly, Thomas doesn't have an offer … yet.

  • He says IU has offered in this video.

  • IUfanPurduePhD

That's what I thought I heard, but the IndyStar article said otherwise and threw me for a loop. Thanks! (now that I've accidentally spread misinformation…)

  • psvirsky

Agreed – he really jumped up the charts in my mind. He's got a good intensity about him. For example, I'm sure Zeller can be a great player but he came off more reserved and not ready to just come in and get at it. In this interview, Thomas really comes off focused and ready to contribute.

  • According to Peegs, Thomas said later on in the day on Saturday that he has not been offered by IU.

  • HOOsierDaddy

anybody who is salivating over IU is what the good old days were, who cares if he isnt a Indiana kid but he is so enthusiastic about IU that i smile in confidence. I didnt get this feeling with JD because when asked about AE recruiting him to IU he said “its pissing me off” like he didnt enjoy the constant begging and hovering for him.

  • Kelin Blab

Now I am 100% confused with Thomas…..he does have an offer, he doesn't, and then he does….I guess he won't make a decision at the end of July….someone call Crean on this….

  • BigRed3588

I bet he does and just wasn't supposed to say. I agree that there will most likely be a transfer or two coming and Thomas's admition he's been offered might've just confirmed it in my mind. I just don't see Crean lying to these kids saying there are scholarships when there aren't. Purely my opinion of course…

  • Perea is an absolute beast of a player…I love him…

Kaminski shined the most on his team this weekend…dead eye at Assembly Hall when I saw him

  • I love AT…bring him to IU…he loves IU and can flat play

  • I love AT…bring him to IU…he loves IU and can flat play

  • I would take AT over JD for the mere fact that AT seems to really want to come to IU and JD is hedging…I have seen them both play and I believe AT has a greater upside.

I would also say that M McGary's stock is rising and rising quickly…I have seen both he and Zeller play and I believe that M McGary is in the same league as Zeller…he is a true 6'10″ mayber a bit taller…240lbs…can run the floor well and can shoot from anywhere

Ok…..mystery continues…..According to Scout Aaron Thomas has NO offers. The plot thickens…but he is in the top 100
