Michael Chandler opens up his recruitment

2011 Lawrence North big man Michael Chandler is back on the board.

Chandler, the No. 13 player in his class according to Scout.com, committed to Louisville in January of 2009 but has decided to re-open the process. Evan Daniels broke the story and offered up this insight from Chandler:

“I mean I feel as though I’m still committed to Louisville. But I’m open for other schools to recruit me. Sort of like the Austin Rivers situation.”

It’ll be interesting to see if Indiana can get into the discussion for Chandler. At 6-11, 210, he would obviously go a long way in helping the Hoosiers improve their frontcourt situation.

I would love for it to happen and it really does sound like it has some legs, but for the sake of keeping it easier on my nerves I'm going to think of it as a longshot.

I just cannot believe how “excited” people are over at Hoosier Nation. Apparently, it is all a huge rumor at this point, but there are a few individuals that “trust” their source. One post I read stated that, “if the rumor is true…..we're BACK!” It's all very interesting and it makes one very anxious to hear what this rumor is….Why people are hiding this information is beyond me, but Im sure there are very good reasons. We'll see. Either way, I hear that the information should be let out either “soon” or “in may”.

Don't think this guy is a UK lock just yet. They are still going hard after CJ Leslie, another talented big man. If he commits there, I don't see Chandler heading over there. But hell, Orton stayed there even with Cousins and Patterson, what do I know?

It's got to be Teague right? Dad pushing for us, Pitino's questionable behavior, Chandler decommiting, the “I didn't say I wasn't going there” quote. It's almost too much!

The first thing that came to my mind was UK. 2011 with Teague, the number #1 ranked player Gilchrest, (sp), and now Chandler would make a huge class. IU shouldn't waste their time with Chandler. The kid actually says he's “still committed to Louisville, but open for other schools to recruit me”??? I feel sorry for his future wife.

We need better kids than this one.

A quote was…we will find out “soon” or “in May”…..Teague is anouncing Thursday and there is no either or….sooooo is it safe to assume that eliminates him?

IU has no chance at getting this kid. He just understood the marketing concept of recruiting. If you are a marque recruit don't commit until you have the MEDIA pressuring you for a commitment.

I am proud of all Indiana high school BBall players. The Louisville North I mean Lawrence North connection to Rick Pitino is fading away. The Pitino at FLORIDA had most of the recruiting connections in state.

Coach TOM CREAN you should just STAY in the STATE for the NEXT 2 years for you recruits. No need to TEASE us.

Just so this doesn't get out of hand and to avoid ITH maybe crashing on Thursday , I will say the rumor has nothing to do with Teague. Sorry guys, I have a new born at home too, so don't have time to e-mail everyone.

For all you people out there wondering about this rumor…. I happen to know some very important factors surrounding this rumor and I can't get myself to believe it. I would love for it to happen but it's definitely a “rumor”. All I can say is don't get too excited because I don't see it happening.

I've been following both ITH and Crean's twitter for the past week and am glad to at least hear things are still positive+–> (even if they are ALL rumors and more based on fantasy than Avatar)

Unfortunately I don't see any promise in the immediate future for top recruiting prospects in 2010 or 2011. But one can only dream!

After Mr. Davis “no recruit” and SampsonGate one can only hope that Crean can turn things around with some star talent quickly.

Is this really what it's come to? It's like Hoosiers fans have all been reduced to middle schoolers, wildly passing rumors about who has a crush on who. I know that's essentially what recruiting stories really boil down to, but this has taken on a frenetic nature rarely seen amongst rational adults. Deep breaths, people. Very deep breaths.

I live about 25 miles from Louisville—-I know none of their fans were happy with Van Treese, and Pitino was mad at Terrance Jennings much of the year and still didn't see enough in Van Treese to put him in.
