Wow, a range of things to react to on here today. I will start with this. I think with Bob Hammel reaching out on behalf of Fred Glass and Tom Crean (both of whom have sung Coach Knight's praises) there stands a better than 50% percent chance that Coach Knight will return for the ceremony (although I would put it at roughly 50.00001%). If coach Yeagley also offers a hand that would highten the chances.

2nd - Just because a kid lists you on his list does not mean there is any real intent there. See Dom Ferguson, IU had no real intent of signing him although he listed them. If a kid also lists Cincinnati and South Carolina with IU, that tells me he is wishing more than holding.

3rd - Postman E (Eamonn) - I like your playing with words. It keeps someone with ADD like me interested. You have a unique take on things and I like the way you use quirky sayings and words I have to look up in the dictionary. I read the Dagger as part of my daily reading and I understand you have to entertain a national audience with the blog, not just IU fans, so I see where you were coming from. I am a fan of your work and I appreciate the quirks. The three of you together have founded my favorite blog and I appreciate that. However, you lend credibilty to those criticizing you by responding to them. I also thought that the comments were unneccesary (as explained in point 4), but they should not define you as a "journalist."

4th - To those offering criticism to Eamonn, a blog is a space to offer opinions. It is designed to provide an outlet for one's thoughts. There is no journalistic integrity required, nor is there any reason to worry about word choice, just the words you think best describe your thoughts on the particular matter. I would understand if you were an English professor or a journalism major and Eamonn was your subject of study or your professor, but I assuming you are not and he is not. Postman E's only obligation is to get readers and encourage the advertisers to pay to have a spot on his blog so his employer can get more money. (my 2 cents on the matter)

Well, my hope is that we return to an Elite 8 Team/Championship contending team.
I just feel that with the current roster we have guys that will make an outstanding nucleus, we need those 1-2 big time All-American/high 1st round pick types to add to that to put us over the top.

Of course, I'm projecting a lot considering we're coming off a 7-win season, but if you add Williams, Carlino and Ethrington to the '09 class, then I think we should be waiting to add the heavy hitter. With the scholarships so limited, I'd rather wait for Irving, Christmas, Gilrest etc. to take us to the next level.

I was probably too blunt in my comment and, in retrospect, out of line with the "awful writer" label. I should have just stuck with "awful article" because the article is poorly written and lazy. If you're just a blogger who's in this for kicks and giggles then carry on. If you are a writer to be taken seriously, then do a better job next time. You can take it as criticism or as constructive criticism, that's up to you. My point about the output still stands even if I'm apologizing for meritless namecalling.

Eamonn, I'm not sure why you feel the need to reply. GFDave and gibbonjockey both had valid points even if the delivery was a little blunt. Writers (at least the good ones) should have thick skin. Save the sarcastic remarks for a different blog/website/whatever and let's stick to the topic.

I have to disagree on this one, Dave. While you might not care that Eamonn helped found this blog (many people do, by the way, it should be noted), it's a little shortsighted to question his credibility because you don't agree with his choice of words. Reserve questioning credibility when we (myself, Ryan or Eamonn) report something that's inaccurate.

Words are the way to make the point. I'm honestly surprised you don't get that. Maybe its part of the explosion of technologies that put a premium on quantity and presence over quality. but im not intothat, r u feelin me?

I really don't care that you helped found a blog. What credibility as a writer does that lend to you? Your words are all you have and yours, in this instance anyway, are exactly as I first described them. Good luck to you.

Hi guys! Eamonn here, reporting live from my hole in the ground. Allow me to explain my apparently egregious word choices, because your harsh comments make me deeply sad inside. (They don't bother me at Yahoo!, but you guys are supposed to be my friends! What gives?!)

I went with abstract and nebulous because IU, sprawling, huge institution that it is, can sometimes seem to exist regardless of the people running it. If Knight chooses to view it that way, fine, but my point is that IU the school isn't responsible for how the story ended; Knight, and Myles Brand, and various other folks no longer employed there are. I promise I wasn't trying to be a poser. I probably just could have gone with "sprawling," but sometimes I type very fast in order to get all my work done. It happens.

Relatively momentous was used because I believe a thing can have varying degrees of momentousness; my dog not crapping in the house today is momentous to me, but in the lifetime development of my dog -- or the continued development and progress of the human race -- only barely so. See what I mean here? "Relatively" is a way to provide context. Not everyone cares about IU basketball, you see.

And anyway why are you guys being so picky? Is not the point of the post itself more important than word choice, which as far as I know is marginally subjective? (Did I choose those two correctly?)

Also, um, GF Dave, I'm one of the founding three members of this here blog, and while my contributions this offseason have been nil I'll be writing The Morning After et. al. again starting in the fall. Until then, you won't have to deal with my poser ass. In the meantime, I'll be "working on my craft."

Thanks for reading! Love y'all!

I probably just could have gone with “sprawling,” but sometimes I type very fast in order to get all my work done. It happens.

Relatively momentous was used because I believe a thing can have varying degrees of momentousness; my dog not crapping in the house today is momentous to me, but in the lifetime development of my dog — or the continued development and progress of the human race — only barely so. See what I mean here? “Relatively” is a way to provide context. Not everyone cares about IU basketball, you see.

I see your point but would argue that Watford, Creek and Eslton have all Big-Ten potential by the time they are juniors. They will need the Top 20 everyone is salivating over as I noted to be an Elite 8 team.

I would be really surprised if they pick up Mobley honestly. But if the other bigs bail they can't start from scratch and need to build other relationships now.

We're talking about Coach Knight. If you recall he can be somewhat.....emotional. Getting the boot from IU was an all-time low. This situation reeks of the old guy in a wheel chair barely with his wits about him taking the final plunge. I'm not being sarcastic. The "new regime" wants to move on. They were not directly related to the exodus. But for RMK it's still fresh in his mind and honestly I don't know if he will EVER go back.

9 years, 19 years. May as well be 100.

I kind of hope you are right about this, at least at this point in time. We need more time to elapse so that Irving, Morgan and Oladipo and other higher rated recruits have a chance to make their decisions. Mobley probably is a good back-up, but maybe not a first choice.

I agree with you on RMK. I think they should have developed a 1-2 year plan to reintegrate Knight back into the IU family, beginning with non-promotional items, such as just meeting with Crean and Glass occasionally to mend fences. Prove to Knight it's not for promotional reasons. Once the relationships are built, then discuss things like the HOF and coming back to games and events.

On the recruiting thing I have to disagree, IU has the role players in place, we need the bonafide go-to players now. Guys like Watford and Creek have the potential to develop into stars, but we need the sure things to go with those two. Add in role players like Elston, Hulls, VJIII, Bawa and Capo and this will be a contending team in a year or two. Hopefully a few of those guys develop into more than role player, then we're really talking. But, every team needs legit stars to go with the role players, and IMO that's what we're missing now.
