More importantly I donot think our staff has the glaring weaknesses that Knight, Davis and KS showed. We have a coach who can recruit, coach, entertain the media, works well with administrators and is within the rules. The other guys did not have all of that in one package.

Etherington made a great choice and at the right time.

On another topic (kind of), I was reading the poll question today and it struck me that the dichotomy of answers in that situation isn't as black-and-white as it may seem. There are decommittments and recommittments and all kinds of committments. (See: Eric Gordon, Austin Rivers, Josh Selby, DeMarcus Cousins, et. al.)

It may be reported by some that a kid has accepted, then do you just back-off without hearing from the kid himself? Do you want to spend recruiting resources on a kid that has already committed? What if he re-opens his recruiting and you have stayed away even though the kid never said he did not want you to call? Then you are behind. 16, 17 and 18 year olds are prone to change their minds frequently.

I would say, until the kid has said, “Do not recruit me anymore, I have committed to (whatever school),” you have to recruit him. Even at that, you may part with, “If you change your mind, let me know.” If that means until signing day, or it means when he is a sophomore and decided he does not like your school, but is still open to others. Until then, the kid is fair game.

Davis confirmed Monday night that Etherington called him afterward and recommended that he follow suit.

“I talked to him about going there, too, and he said he likes it a lot, so it could happen,” Etherington said in a story on Indiana.rivals.com.

When questioned by The Star Press about a possible commitment, Davis said, “I have to talk it over with my family. My family and my friends.”

“Indiana is a great school – they’re one of the tops on my list,” Davis said in a story on Indiana.scout.com. “I love Coach Crean and his style of play. He says I’m a very big priority for him.”

Davis reiterated that statement when pressed on the possibility of a commitment in the next 24 hours.
