I would be thrilled with Mr. Irving (especially if it comes with the possible package deal of Mr. Gilchrest, both of those guys are studs and it almost guarantees Irving for a sophomore campaign). Teague is an extreme talent, but I get an Allen (AI) Iverson/Stephon (Starbury) Marbury/Stevie (Franchise) Francis vibe about him. Is Dawson the kid from Gary? I really like everything I have heard about him - I just can not remember his name.

I agree it is nice to be in the mix with talented kids, it just makes me wonder how it will all work out.....Are you and Uwe cousins? Just curious....

From what I read today that Teague will decide next month and L'Ville is on the leaderboard. Once he decides it could determine what happens with J.Davis. I do believe whomever gets teague it is a ONE year deal so it wouldn't be all that bad....

Fowler.....that has been a huge one to figure out......the things that factor into are transfers, red-shirts a little, and who signs....

My thoughts are we get Irving, not teague
We don't sign anyone else for 2010, unless it is Gilcrest or Poole etc.

Beyond that, that is a crean situtation to work out....My questions are similar to yours. I am just glad we are in the mix on a lot of these kids.....between 2010 and 2012 my ideal recruits would be...

2010 - At least Irving and I will be thrilled, would like to see Dawson, Gilcrest, or Poole
2011 - J. Davis and Plumlee or Zeller or Etherington
2012 - From this class the must get guy is DeJuan Marrero and Patterson, Hollowell, etc.

Forgive me for playing Korman here, but how are we going to land these kids? The way I understand the scholarship situation is that our beloved Hoosiers only have 3 open spots for the next 2 years (classes 2010 and 2011). One is taken by Mr. Williams, the another is taken by Mr. Carlino. That leaves 2 open spots for the next 2 classes. If we sign Mr. Irving (my preference), that leaves one open spot.

(Sidebar: I realize IU can oversign by one, but if they do, does someone have to red-shirt to make the roster work? Or, does someone have to transfer? Are they allowed to have 14 scholarship players once the season starts, but only 13 can be active? Not real clear on the exact rule.)

I know a lot of people are on the Mr. Teague wagon, so let's assume that if they get their preference, he assumes the final scholarship. How in the world do we land Mr. Etherington, Mr. Plumlee, the kid from Gary (I can't think of his name) or Mr. Zeller?

I love the what-if game as much as anyone, but in reality, we are either getting into the "letting-kids-out-of-their-scholarships-by-choice-or-force" game, or we are hoping that kids declare early, and let's be honest, no one on the current roster (including incoming freshmen) looks like they are NBA-ready talent as freshmen or sophomores (maybe I will be proven wrong). Granted almost everyone mentioned in this post is class of 2012 or later, but that only leaves 3 spots in that class if the scholarship numbers fill up for the next 2 years. I know Coach Crean is all over it, and I understand that there are loop holes to everything, but do we really want to go the path of our neighbors to the south (and World-Wide-Wes's BFF) and ask kids to leave? Maybe I am wrong, but I see some broken hearts one way or the other.....

I'm a big J Davis fan. I saw him play at the Indiana Top 100 Showcase and posted on him shortly thereafter. There were a lot of players missing, but for me he was the best player there. Also in attendance were Smith-Rivera, Travis Carroll, Russell Byrd, Jordan Manual, and Spencer Turner. J Davis could score the ball, but I was most impressed by his defense, rebounding, hustle, and just being a good teammate in an event that is often about showboating. He definitely would be good get for IU, I would hate to see him pull a D Davis. The good news is that Teague should decide soon.....should.

Check out this interview video with Marshall Plumlee.
I've noticed Cincy's presence too Kelin. Did Cronin get a new assistant? He's been there a few years but they've really only recently ramped up their recruiting efforts in Indiana...its going to add an interesting element to some of these decisions, having a Big East team in the backyard. (I know, technically, Depaul is B-East, but...) Its kind of the same deal with Travis Ford being at Oklahoma State and them trying to get a hold in the region...Cincy, tho, doesn't bother me too much. Crean knew what it was like being a Midwest school in the Big East, he knows the lay of the land and the limitations, so I feel confident we can hold our own against them. Cincy is really just now getting out from under the crap Huggy & the administration got them in a few years back...and they're probably tired of Xavier recruiting well in Indiana...but Cincy does have those awesome uniforms...
