ITH Video: Matt Carlino at the adidas May Classic

  • 05/21/2009 8:18 pm in

Inside the Hall got its first extended look at the first member of Indiana’s 2011 recruiting class, Matt Carlino, at this past weekend’s adidas May Classic in Bloomington. We’ve put together thirteen clips from games at Assembly Hall and Bloomington South in the embedded video player below. Carlino is wearing No. 12. Enjoy.

His passing is already 2009 but his shot is 2011 ( I hope). Well, from this video anyway.

Alex, could you add the ITH site to the Google add-ons so I could add it to my home page? It would also give ITH a lot of exposure. Your journalism is intelligent/informed and so much better than that self-promoting cheeseball at the Star. Here is the URL http://www.google.com/webmasters/add.html

  • Craig,

You should be able to do it from here:

    Thanks Alex, it worked!! WooooHoooooo!!

He appears to have a beautiful stroke, just wasn't falling. His ballhandling/passing skills looked phenomenal.

I agree, this kid has some game. Every video I have seen of him has impressed me with his passing, and he typicall has a sweet stroke. The thing I like about his spin move is he actually goes somewhere with it where as most kids dribble just to dribble. He is definitely going to be a good player at IU at some point and is a good sign by CTC. The lefty and everything reminds me a bit of Drew Neitzel.

I see Drew Neitzel also. I have read/heard he is strong, crafty, and a good passer. This came from some of his opponants. I would love if he went to South next year…..ONE issue I have an wonder about…..

    Kyrie Irving 6'1 PG – 2010
    Carlino 6'2 PG – 2011
    Teague 6'2 PG – 2011

All can play either guard position but you get my point here don't you. Not to mention I am trying to make room, for the PG who should be our target in 2011 D. Davis…..

These AAU games lack the intensity and the speed of the college game, so for my untrained eye its hard to get a solid fix on any individual's level of skill. However:

–I do agree that Carlino passes well and has good anticipation. His stroke is pure, but I don't think he gets his feet as square to the bucket as he should.

–He uses both hands very well. That's a big asset for a small player driving into the lane.

–I don't agree about the spin move. It seemed to unfurl in slow motion and I was thinking he would never get away with it at the next level.

If we land Irving or Teague, we will have 3 relatively short, slightly built point guards on the roster. Personally, I wouldn't want to see anymore players in that category for a few years.

Kelin, I hear what you are sayin' but wouldn't it be great , considering where we've been, to be in an argument about how many minutes each one of these guys are gettin' or how our small starters are matching up? Some problem huh?

  • Mike Davis

Wow, he looks good, but can he compare to the sweet skills of Donald Perry?

I attend Highland where Matt plays (or did play) and you dont have to worry one bit about his shot, it is very pure and he shot 47% from 3 this season. If he is open he will knock it down, and he may be a little off because of the nose mask.
