Transcript: Kyrie Irving at the adidas May Classic

by Alex Bozich in Recruiting | May 17th, 2009

St. Patrick’s point guard Kyrie Irving made the trip from New Jersey for a pair of Saturday games in the adidas May Classic.

After a meeting with Indiana Elite and IU commit Matt Carlino at Assembly Hall, Irving fielded questions from the media.

On what he saw during his unofficial visit to Indiana on Friday:

“I’m going to major in journalism. I heard they have one of the best journalism schools in the country. So they showed me around there.”

On how Coach Crean is trying to sell him on Indiana:

“Just to make an impact right away, come in and bring them to the Final Four and be the point guard that he needs.”

On whether or not his family came on the visit:

“No, not at all.”

On the influence his father has on his recruitment:

“He’s my adviser right now. He takes care of all the recruiting calls. He takes care of all of that. I just go out and play.”

On whether or not he’s played in front of thousands of fans during an AAU game before:

“No, not at all. This is a first and I enjoyed every minute of it. It really surprised me. I knew that people were going to come to the game, but I didn’t know it was going to be this turnout. It was great.”

On his play against Indiana Elite:

“I struggled with my jumpshot today. All of my teammates, I have trust in them and they picked me up in the second half. It was great. I love this court. I love everything about Indiana.”

On playing against Indiana commit Matt Carlino:

“He’s a good player. He’s a great point guard. He’s very elusive.”

On upcoming unofficial visits:

“I’m actually taking one to Notre Dame pretty soon and I might take one up at Duke when I’m at Bob Gibbons but that’s about it.”

On his list of schools:

“It’s not a definite twelve. It’s probably going to change. Most likely it’s going to change. I’ll probably add some and cut some off. I’m going to narrow it down to five after the whole AAU circuit gets done and take my five official visits.”

On a timetable for a decision:

“I’m going to make a decision next fall. That’s when I’m going to make a decision and get it over with.”

On whether or not there are any schools he’s sure will be in the final list of five:

“No, I don’t have any idea right now.”

PLEEEEEEESE come to IU. Great playerand an excellent teammate, by all accounts a class act with an academic interest. No wonder he's Coach's #1 priority.

This dosent have anything about Irving but the poll on the 2012 class caught my attention. This A.J Hammons is not a good player for IU, because I have a reliable resource that states that this kid sat out atleast 6 games for have a 0.8 GPA...WHAT! we dont someone who probably dosent even know how to open a book.
  • Diesel
The kid is a freshman, he could very well get his act together. Let's not make any hasty decisions on who would be a good player for IU, that's what CTC is for!
  • drode
This coming from a guy who dosent even know how to spell doesn't and can't put a complete sentence together. Give the kid a break!
