You also have to consider that 2007-08 was a very weak year for the BT. IU and MSU, the 2 BT title contenders tanked. Then Illinois, Northwestern, Iowa, Mich, PSU were all terrible. And then OSU and Minny were incredibly mediocre. If that same PU team would play in this year's BT they would maybe finish 6th or 7th

why can't we be like the purdue class 2 years ago when they were all freshman and surprised everybody? that team had a lot of pride coming in as freshman since they played together in aau and actually completed the rarely seen package deal. yea i know our guys aren't aau teammates, but their rankings as individuals are kinda close. watford and creek can make an impact like hummel and moore, bawa looks like a absolute freak, but raw, capo reminds me of a poor man's al horford. hulls and elston seem like total team/role playing studs every team needs. all these guys look like probable 4 year players, like the then purdue class. i don't want to mention guys coming back, cuz that was a team that won what, 6 games? not sure there's much hope in any of them as starters when they get beaten that badly, but they look like solid team/reverse/role players. i'm not saying we should expect great, but maybe we shouldn't be that surprised if we not only made the tourney but won a game or two.

Lets get a home and away with IPFW. I know right IPFW? But IPFW played M State tough last year and in the Fort we'll get 9,000 people in there packed to the rafters. IU is big in Fort Wayne. I haven't seen IU in Fort Wayne since BK and co. and that was a scrimmage game frickin sweet!!

I see Crean using this 'we'll be picked to finish last" as some motivation for a few extra wins.....given the B11 next year, MSU, PU, OSU, N'Western, Penn St. and Minny should all be good again....oh and Michigan.....I think we can get some of those games we lost this year....(Penn St., Michigan, OSU, N'Western.....maaaaybeee PU)

Coach did not say he is predicting us to finish last, but that others (Media) will probably pick IU to finish last in the Big 10. However, like coach, I believe that the Big Ten will be even tougher next year.

I think if you re-read his comment, he said we are likely to be picked last by the preseason prognosticators. He did not say he expects to finish last. Any reasonable person who is not a fan with a bias has to look at what we did last year and pick us to be slightly better because of our incoming class, but we have to win some games before we will be picked to get out of the cellar.

There may be some road closed signs and bridge closed signs next year and the year after, but IU will get on the interstate real soon.<br>Rivers may well hold the key to success. If he can defend and distribute the ball that will really help the entire team. This year's freshmen will not have that deer in the headlights look next year. Their experience should allow next years freshmen to grow into the program, not become the program.
