Are we really complaining about not having Matta here? Are you unhappy with Crean?

What's the point in woulda-couldas? I loved the ride of the 2002 National Title game team and loved DJ and the others that played at IU.

It hasn't always been pretty...but I like where we're heading and I'm not going to complain about the past.

I love RMK and wish he could have left IU on top (after a 2002 NC, perhaps?) but the consensus is correct- what is the upside for UGa? Or for Knight for that matter? Stay retired, Bobby.

I don't see how this is a good move for Georgia. It is questionable whether or not Knight can still recruit top talent, and I can't imagine he is more than a 3-4 year coach. He recruits a very specific type of player for his system. So you are likely to see 3-4 years of solid, but still average teams, then he leaves, and someone spends 2-3 more years rebuilding because they can't use his players in their system. They are much better off going after a hot mid-major coaching talent and building for the long haul. The only programs for whom Knight would make sense are programs that need major rebuilding and publicity...and those are not the kind of programs Knight wants to go to....

One of only 2 coaches all time with 20+ wins each of his 8 seasons. Three times has beaten a #1 . Three times teams have won reg season, conf tournament and he won COY in his conference. All time win %is around 76%.

BTW check out his record in fisrt year at Butler without his recruits, First year at Xavier w/o his recruits and knocked off #1 Illinois at OSU w/o his recruits.

We should be so lucky

Bob's 15 minutes are up and over. I'm not sure I would call going to the tournament 5 or 6 times and then walking out on his team a success. He knew he'd never do anything at TTU and he won't do anything now. Kids don't buy into the "you screwed up now I will beat you into submission" type of coaching anymore. (at least not the top tier athletes that he would need to win) Stay retired Bob and do the college basketball world a favor. Don't pull a Jordan and an Armstrong on us. Now can we please get back to Inside the Hall, which I assume is a blog for IU fans and IU basketball happenings, not some worn out, past his prime coach who just can't stand being out of the media spotlight? Go Coach Crean and go Hoosiers!!

Agree. Then he hires Pat Knight who otherwise might not be employable and sets the program back even more years.

Looking at it another way. If IU had hired Thad Matta instead of being forced by the players to take on Mike Davis what would have the last almost 8 years been like ?

I'm not sure I believe this report, but if Knight does take the job he will surely succeed. He took an unremarkable Texas Tech program to the NCAA tournament 5 times in 6 years, including a Sweet 16, without ever having a lot of talent. I would say the SEC is almost always a weaker conference than the Big 12, too. But if you're Georgia, you'd have to wonder how long he would want to coach there. We've seen here at Indiana how a lot of coaching changes in a row (in basketball and football) isn't very good for a program.
