Early line: Kentucky by 18

by Alex Bozich in Media | December 12th, 2008

The oddsmakers in Vegas like the Wildcats to win big — by 18 to be exact on Vegasinsider.com — in tomorrow’s game at Rupp Arena. Kentucky is coming off a 23-point home win against Mississippi Valley State, but they’ve already dropped two home games – VMI by 8 and Miami by 6.

IU has had its fair share of blowout losses – Notre Dame, St. Joseph’s and Wake Forest – but they’ve played better in their past two games against Gonzaga and TCU.

My question for you, ITH’ers, is this: Does 18 seem like a legitimate number? Is it too many points or will the Hoosiers lose by more? Your thoughts in the comments.

i think iu is better than and 18 point dog..... but those guys in vegas are REALLY REALLY good... if i remember right gonzaga was a 25 pt favorite and we we acutally dogs at home to cornell.. with this team playing as hard as they do on the defensive i think betting on the hoosiers the rest of the year may be a good play with the amount of points they are getting.. i would keep an eye on the line and guess it could move to 16 by game time..

that's alot of points... I sure hope they don't cover... and I definitely think IU can play well enough to keep it close(r than 18).

I think the teams are closer than 18 points on a neutral site and potentially very close at the Hall. Unfortunately, they are playing in a hostile environment at Rupp. I don't see the combination of freshmen and walk-ons overcoming Kentucky's home court advantage at this point in the year. It could get ugly.

I think 18 is probably pretty accurate. I like us to stay within about 10-15 points the entire game, but it could stretch out to around 20 if we try and foul late and don't score or make silly mistakes toward the end.

It's alot of points but you have a young team in a hostile environment. I'm not sure if the Hoosiers get behind in Rupp, that they can recover. I would like to think IU will play well and it'll be much less than 18.

if they play a whole lot smarter but still play their dog fight ugly style they will make a game out of it.
if they play super stupid 18 might not be enough
    i love these kids

I believe IU will pull an upset. Also I would like to address your statement " Is it too many points or will the Hoosiers lose by more?" This sickens me. You already have decided that our Hoosiers have no chance at all. You are not a true fan but simply another naysayer. I bet you secretly wear your UK blue for every IU/UK game. Perhaps for just once you might believe in this years team and show a little support rather than continually telling these kids that they haven't a chance. You sir are pathetic.

You ask IU fans, but I'm a UK fan and here's my take. IU has a real shot at this game. 18 is a stupid number. Could be a UK victory by three or one, or could be an IU season signature win against an unsettled point guard-less UK team.

Crean's gonna be IU's Pitino, bringing an alltime program back from the brink. Indiana won't "wander" forever in the wilderness. Today could be one of those games and I'm damn nervous about it.

I still hope we kick your butts every game for the next century, but can we all agree that North Carolina needs to lose and protect the legacy of IU's perfect season?

UNC won't go undefeated... its wayyyyyyy too earlier to even start thinking of that.

it looks like the line is down to 16 on most betting services... not that i gamble..... :)
