Know Thy Opponent: Saint Joseph’s Hawks

Indiana will look to put yesterday’s 38-point drubbing at the hands of Notre Dame behind them and get back to work against another formidable opponent in Maui, Saint Joseph’s.

Phil Martelli’s club is led by 6-9 senior forward Ahmad Nivins who posted his third straight double-double (14 points, 13 rebounds) in Monday’s 68-50 loss to Texas.

The presence of Nivins will present another challenge for Tom Pritchard and IU’s hopes in today’s game hinge significantly on Pritchard’s ability to slow him down while staying out of foul trouble.

St. Joe’s also has an experienced backcourt, led by junior Darrin Govins (14.7 ppg) and senior Tasheed Carr (11.0 ppg).

The Hawks were picked to finish fourth in the Atlantic 10 in the preason poll conducted by the league’s coaches. Today’s meeting is the first between the two schools since 1984, when IU won 81-44 in Bloomington.
