This is just a hunch, but there is part of me that thinks IU might have passed on De Carolis because he might have insisted on his "own guy" for the football program and IU wasn't ready to concede that power to him.

it's amazing how the comments differ here vs. the hoosier scoop. i thought the obvious choice was de carolis, but from what the bio's say, i'm confident that mr glass has the experience to be able to get the work done. he hasn't been an ad, but he knows how to keep sports facilities profitable.

good luck mr. glass.

I'm not down with this hire. What does IU need to make more money, a better football team. It would have been nice to get an AD with some experience who has made something of a football program. Seems a weak hire for a low price. You gotta spend money to make it and I don't think this guy is going to do much to help. What does this guy know about hiring a coach or anything to that effect. Not to mention if he is a lawyer its not like he has much experience running a business, as a lawyer I can disparage my profession. I don't see how bringing the FInal Four translates to running an athletic program

I have long believed that a CEO type is more important in this job than athletic dept experience. I therefore support this and will watch carefully to see if this theory holds.
I wish him the best of luck

If people wanted the shocking or "sexy" choice, in the world of athletics administration, this is about as "sexy" as it gets.

Its not like he hasn't had any experience that is relevant to what an AD does. Sure, he doesn't have athletic department experience but he has had experience doing duties that ADs typically do. He knows how to organize sporting events and he knows how to get people into the stadium, which is obviously a bigger deal for football than basketball but still. And really, what does he have to do in regards to the basketball program? He has to just let Crean do his job, let him put a winner on the court and the rest will take care of itself. Everyone will clamor about a student section and all that but there is probably nothing anyone can do about that that wouldn't piss off the alumni and boosters. You know, the people that give lots money to the athletic department when they are happy and not a lot when they are pissed. All that said, I think its a good hire and we need to give this guy a chance before we all start ripping on him (something I know won't happen)
