I forgot to count my wife,so that makes it 24 cans. I'm not really upset about the increase because I will be able to provide. It's just the fact that I have to start thinking about how the economy is effecting everyone, and this is possibly the only chance for families to see the Hoosiers this year in person due to not having money. You can still be a diehart fan and not have any money. Even people in need would like to have the opportunity too.

Not really. I just made the comment that now I have to bring not just three canned goods but a total of 24 cans, which makes it kind of difficult for a large family to watch the Hoosiers when they're on a really tight budget that's not counting gas prices.

I can understand about the early start time though.

Are you knuckleheads (Alex) really complaining about watching womens volleyball? Dude, get over yourself. There are sports other than basketball. And women's volleyball is the one womens sport that is actually just as exciting as the mens. They are tremendous athletes. I live out here in Cali and the women crush most of the men... with the exception of the guys on tour. Get out of your midwest bubble brah.

This is going to be like the super bowl for these ladies. Get out there and support them.

I know I supported volleyball, but you don't HAVE to do anything. Last year I showed up well after the volleyball had ended and even after the women's festivities had begun. The Atheletics Department is just trying to use the basketball to draw more fans for another sport, but by no means does this suggest you have to be there by 5:30 or you can't get in.

I like the spirit, but I sure hope IU never has to degrade itself to the point of using sideshows and mascots to draw people to games. This is still BigTen football after all.

Three cans is an increase from previoius years, and as a student only providing for one, it doesn't affect me in a profound way, or at least not like it would affect a family of 7. Still an extra 7 canned goods could cost you only $3 to $7 dollars more, depending on what you want to donate.

Did you have to put your club down before typing that comment or did you just use the search and peck method? Are you really complaining that you have to donate three canned goods to a charity that could benefit your situation. Personally, I like that it starts earlier because it can draw more of a crowd than just drunk wild college students.

I agree with Alex about having to watch volleyball before seeing the Men's and women's team hit the floor and I like volleyball. It's call Hoosier Hysteria- the last time I check that the State of Indiana is known for basketball from high school to the pro game. The history of Indiana University and Indiana sports is all about basketball.

We now have to give away three cans- it used to be two. The cost of inflation. That's alot of cans for an entire family of seven who wants to attend the event.

Finally, Midnight Madness is no longer the same since the teams finished way before Midnight last year. I liked it when it was the old Midnight Madness in which you waited until 12am to watch the teams.

Our football team needs to take a different philosphy to bring people into the stands. Go minor league baseball and have interesting and funny side shows. Get a mascot to do crazy stuff, make it not only a football game but a family atmosphere where people can still have a good time. something.

You're right 8781, and I didn't mean to suggest that student attendance was particularly poor, but I know a lot of students consider tailgating to be the only gameday experience and consider actually going to the game almost laughable. Some of those third downs yesterday against MSU got loud, it was fun. And yes, it would be nice to see the rest of the stadium join in more regularly.

The student section is usually filled pretty well and always rowdy and loud. The rest of the stadium, however, is like a funeral. The students are doing their jobs, and have since I've been here (2005).

I agree jgong. It would be really nice to see more students actually attending football games. I'm not sure how exactly it could be done, but there has to be some way to get corral students from the tailgating fields into Memorial Stadium.

As for the volleyball, my cousins best friend was on the team last year and I went to a few matches. 12 girls in short spandex shorts is almost never a bad thing, and the game is pretty fast paced. I'm not saying I will be showing up at 5:30, but there could be worse options.

Whats wrong with watching a volleyball game? It promotes other IU sports. If I were the athletic department I would require the student body to watch a football game ( not pay mind you) to get the opurtunity to get better seats at basketball games. That just me though and I know nobody aproves.

First of all, you don't have to go to the volleyball game. You can wait until 8 or so to show up, you just won't sit as close. They did this last year too, no big deal.

Now let the rampant speculation on which prospects will attend begin.
