Best Bob Knight quote ever

by in Former Hoosiers | September 11th, 2008

I’m not exaggerating:

The closest we got to juicy was when Maurer asked a general question — not a Sampson-related question — about cheating in recruiting. “If you get caught cheating, they should shoot you,” Knight said. “Because you’re too dumb to be alive.”

RMK, for the win.

Sounds just like him! Too bad they were not able to get into the juicy stuff, considering his answer to this cheating question, it would have been very interesting to hear what he thinks. Unless he wouldn't answer the Q's.

I like it, but I think shooting him is almost too easy of an out for Sampson. There has to be some way to punish him before he gets killed off…I'm thinking scrubbing toilets in the dorms at IU every weekend and at Assembly Hall and Memorial stadium after game days?

Not bad from Knight I still like his ” I hope they bury me upside down so the critics can kiss my a*#” speach but this is not bad.

IU had to let him go 8 yrs ago, but the best BK quote, IMHO, came in '87 during NCAA tourney, LSU lead IU with about 5-7 minutes remaining in the game, BK was asked if he was at all worried at that time, trailing a hot LSU team, to which BK said, something to the effect that …”Yes, I was worried. Then I looked down and saw that LSU was being coached by Dale Brown and I knew we had it in the bag.” Little wonder Brown and Knight didn't get along.

I could imagine that when night turns 85 that everything is going to come out about everybody. Those will be interesting times.

This is the unfortunate part of Coach Knight's legacy…his poor attitude and disposition.

Anybody who has followed his early career can attest to his greatness. Knight's latter years were distorted by his bitterness with the press and a defensive posture towards everyone who challenged him. I stll consider Coach an I.U. legend and prefer to remember his accomplishments during his early and more docile years. Coach Knight's various contibutions will never be fully appreciated due to the tarnished image of his latter years.

The true travesty remains that Coach Knight had to end his oustanding coaching career with out the banner of I.U. in his backround.

His I.U. legacy somewhat diminished…I will always remember Coach Knight for this basketball coaching genius and the many charitable contibutions he initiated or funded for the Univerversity and I try to dimiss his latter personality flaws.

Are you too angling to be buried upside down ……….so your critics can ……………..?

You might get some critics but I think you are right………..part of him you love………..part of him reflected poorly on IU and the program.

I would have fired him for losing however ( also related to his demeanor) and would not have fired him for choking Neil Reed or asking to be called Mr Knight.
