of course not, don't be silly.....the alternative is for the hiring to be made and announced by someone else in the administration...a special assistant to the president, a specially appointed committee, the person within the athletic department that actually made the decision (and is untainted by the events of the Sampson era) but not to have it made or announced by the guy that is absorbing a big part of the blame for how things got out of control to begin with....whether he made the actual decision or not, he should be out of the process completely on any significant decisions for the future...and this is one of the most significant...

What's the alternative? Not hire anyone until January? Allow the compliance office to spend a full semester trying to work a man down?

And trust me, Greenspan did not make this hire. He does not have a lot of contact with the hirings on that level. The hire was made by Ian Rickerby with input from Grace Calhoun.

Basketblog says we have a verbal from a top 100 guard for 2011. I always wonder about verbals so far in advance and why we are so good at guards but not as good at landing bigs................so far

Jenna has had past experience working with the IU athletic department and worked with the NCAA throughout law school. She is highly qualified to take the job. I believe that Rickerby is her direct superior, so it is likely that he was the one behind the hire more so than Greenspan. Jenna knew most the people in the athletic department and most of those people will be staying on staff after Greenspan, so I believe they hired someone who is highly competent and will work well with others that she knew from past experience. Again, I don't think that Greenspan was the driving force behind this hire

I know IU needs to move on somethings without delay but it seems to me that Greenspan is a lame duck and I'm wondering why this decision and more importantly the length and $ involved in Crean's contract are being done without any thought to what a new AD may think appropriate.

Good point , but I suspect he felt he needed to act decisively while the NCAA was still deliberating "insitutional control" among its charges. Another and perhaps better question is why we have him still on the job .at all.

I am by no means questioning her credentials or qualifications for this job, but I don't understand for the life of me why Greenspan is making this hire given that he has essentially been disgraced for the way the basketball program managed its compliance efforts during his tenure...
