Clippers shut down Gordon due to hamstring injury

ejgordon001.jpgThose of you waiting to see some more of Eric Gordon in the NBA will have to wait until the regular season kicks off this fall.

Gordon was injured in Saturday’s Summer League game against the Charlotte Bobcats and according to Marc Stein of the World Wide Leader, he’ll miss the rest of the Summer League with a hamstring injury:

Just got word from the Los Angeles Clippers that lottery pick Eric Gordon, who has shown some nice flashes here in Vegas despite his struggles from the perimeter, will be sidelined for the remainder of the NBA Summer League with a strained left hamstring he suffered in Saturday’s third quarter against the Charlotte Bobcats.

So we won’t be getting what looked to be one of the better individual duels at UNLV: Gordon’s scheduled showdown Wednesday with O.J. Mayo of the Memphis Grizzlies.

This is definitely not the start to his NBA career that Gordon was looking for after the tumultuous end to his time at IU. In terms of the duel with Mayo, I’m sure the 300 fans watching the summer league on NBA.com will get over missing this matchup. Get well soon, EJ.

Great. Now all we will hear about is how this injury affected his game during his rookie year, but we still love him because he has so much upside. Just like the sprained/broken wrist while at IU kept him from being the best he could be at IU. Yeah, go ahead and rip on me, but all you know this conversation will be had when he doesn't look good during the season. 9 of 28 is 32% from the field in 2 games. So was it the wrist or the hammy that hurt him? Also, the article says he doesn't come off picks for a shot. Duh. Did they watch any film on him? I'm not trying to dog on the kid, but I get tired of hearing how good someone is when their stats don't validate it.

He has missed 19 of 28 shots, yet has gotten to the line 21 times in 2 games…that sounds familiar. nice to see he is averaging a lot of rebounds for an undersized 2, that wasn't really a part of his game in college

granted, its summer league. not the best gauge for how someone will do in the NBA

Unrelated topic: Rumor has it that Billy Packer is done at CBS, if this is true THANK YOU GOD….34 straight final fours listening to this pathetic moron is enough..

  • Pretty sure it's true. Been the word since the Final Four and now several media outlets are picking up on it.

  • Oh just great, just wonderful. Just what I needed to hear on Monday morning. NOT.

However, Gordon was the second leading scorer (behind Al Hortford) averaging 19 pts, 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists this summer. So, the summer play and his rookie year so far has been productive, and he will get better once the season begins.
