This upcoming season, well, it's going to get ugly at times, but looking ahead to next year, the backcourt will be loaded. Here's a full list (walk-ons included) of the backcourt players.

Devan Dumes (Great shooter/combo guard)
Malik Story (Great shooter, has size at 6'5")
Nick Williams (Shooter with size, solid athlete, can hit the 3)
Jeremiah Rivers (Point with defensive skills, leadership abilities)
Verdell Jones (Point with upside, needs some hungryman meals)
Matt Roth (Prolific 3 point Shooter and......)
Jordan Hulls (Point with crafty ballhandling and passing)
Maurice Creek (Shooter with size, scoring abilities)
Daniel Moore (point, comparable with Errek Suhr)
Brett Finkelmeier (towel boy)
Kory Barnett (a guard/wing that i don't know squat about)

With all of those guards, i thought i was looking at Villanova's roster there for a split sec.. Ok, now here are next years frontcourt players.

Tijan Jobe (a 7-footer......)
Tom Pritchard (a banger, solid skills, aggressive)
Broderick Lewis (raw/undersized/athlete)
Derek Elston (more of a wing than a post)
Bobby Capobianco (a post player who isn't afraid to mix it up)

Other players being targeted by IU coaching staff...

Derrick Favors (Would be a monumental catch)

I'm interested to see the comparison between Roth and Dumes. Seems like there's no debating that they can both shoot, but it remains to be seen if they can do it successfully at this level. Dumes maybe lacks basketball IQ according to a post, and Roth might not be able to get open for looks and match up on defense. I want to see them in action.

I think if anyone is a lock to start it is Pritchard especially if he has grown another two inches as I have heard. He is a good passer, rebounder, and has…get this….actual offensive post moves…..unfortunately he will get the DJ white treatment with not other viable post to throw to but he will have shooters on the outside…..

I think it is interesting how we have really turned the page on ALL of the other guys who have left……and how we don't miss them……No one is yelling how good we could have been with Deandre back? what a bust…………..KS sold us swamp land on this kid….

I think Dumes starts but you are giving JC too much respect. I said it before…AAU is much better comp than JC. I would take some talent off the hyper and srsc pick up games over a lot of JC players (not comparing Dumes).

To comment on the big men from other posts. Pritchard is better than Taber (experience – not really, skills – none, hustle – yes), and Jobe is just big not intimidating, esp if thats what his JC numbers really were…

I guess I donot understand the factual basis for regarding Roth and Story as starters and Pritchard ever on the bench unless we are forced to sit him.

Dumes - would have set an IU record ( better than Alford ) for 3 pt FG based on his JC numbers last year and had a credible Fr season at EMU. Older, more experienced, more defense, better more proven college scorer than Roth.

JOnes - only true PG on scholarship, outplayed Roth in HS

Pritchard - our only guy who can play big on both ends of the floor

Williams - plays active and long comapred to Story who cannot lift, cannot move lateraly and did not play much this past year with his school transfer all screwed up

Taber, Jobe - these 2 split time

Rotation - Roth for DUmes, Story ( maybe) for WIlliams

Let's start Jobe....screw it, let him go out and intimidate everyone.

But I would think there are no real locks yet for starter...if there was one i'd guess it'd be Nick Williams.

On the draft: Chad Fords latest draft has Gordon going fifth to Memphis...and D.J. with the 36th pick to Portland. If D.J. falls that low, I would LOVE for him to keep falling all the way to 39th so the Bulls can pick him up.

If the Bulls draft Rose and White I might have to get season tickets....even though I still go to school at IU and am already in debt.

I really don't see Pritchard starting over Taber. I mean c'mon, Taber will have senior experience (and even started a few times last season), which I think is enough to qualify him over freshmen Pritchard. I foresee Taber and Pritchard subbing in and out for each other though. And I agree, I think against bigger teams (Wisconsin) we'll start them both.

Jones, Williams, Taber for sure in my opinion. The other 2 are in the up in the air... (Dumes, Roth, Story ?).

Man, we're going to have such a short lineup. Even ONE injury can completely destroy what little chance we have of winning games.

Jones, Williams, and Pritchard start for sure…I say Dumes (over Roth and Story) with Taber is in the line up against bigger teams and one of the two bumps above against smaller line ups.

PG - Jones
SG - Roth
G/F - Williams
G/F - Story
F - Pritchard

I think with where our talent is, we have to play a smaller lineup and go with a guard heavy lineup. Story and Williams have good size (Story seemed thicker than Williams, but Williams seemed to have more length and wingspan), so I think they will be ok. Maybe, just maybe, it's ...

PG - Jones
G/F - Williams
G/F - Story
PF Pritchard
PF Taber

Then, that means Jobe is our only big man off the bench. That scares me. I say start small and use two bigs only when absolutely needed.

Who will Jones's backup PG be? Dumes? Moore? No way...

Yeah I wasn't sure where Dumes fit in, either as SG or PG….seemed like he was more a SG, but I heard he might transition to point for us. I'm hopeful Roth's shooting touch helps him get minutes.

Dumes isn't a point guard. Jones is small? Isn't he like 6'4″ or 6'5″? That's huge for a point guard. I know he doesn't bring a lot of weight, but his height at point guard will off set that. You don't see a lot of 6'4″ or 6'5″ point guards in college basketball.

Jones is really small, I don't see him starting yet, and Williams is actually bigger than Story, no way Story plays the 4 spot.

Jobe, Pritchard and Taber are all going to play a TON of minutes.

My buddies and I have had an interesting time trying to predict the starting 5 for this season. Anyone have any input?

I'd say:

Jones - PG
Dumes - SG
Williams - 3
Story - 4
Taber - 5

??

I can't imagine Jobe will start, but if by some strange event that he does, I'd put him at the 5, Taber at the 4, Williams 3, Dumes 2, Jones 1.

Your thoughts?

Dumes will be a very solid player, but I've heard he's lacking in the intelligence department. This is very legit information but I will not say where I heard it. Hint: he's one of the returning players from last year.

Roger Franklin is #1 on my wishlist slightly ahead of Watford for 2009. He's developed an outside shot and I've heard his defense is much better than Watford's Personally I think IU is his top school. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he commits in the next couple months. Many articles I read have a connection with him and future IU players(Capobianco, Elston, Hulls). It seems strange that all of them bring him up when they have been interviewed by different recruiting services. But don't get wrong I'd love for a transfer to occur and we can get Frankin and Watford. I truly think it may happen.
