Devin Ebanks heading to West Virginia

by Alex Bozich in Recruiting | May 18th, 2008

He was once Indiana’s top signee for the 2008 recruiting class. He’s now the prize of Bob Huggins and West Virginia. Devin Ebanks told Jeff Goodman of Foxsports.com this morning that he chose the Mountaineers over Memphis, Texas and Rutgers:

“I really respect Coach (Bob) Huggins and I trust what he’s saying. I also feel like I can make an impact quickly at West Virginia. I enjoyed my visit to West Virginia and just feel as though it’s the best situation for me.”

Ebanks joins Kevin Jones, Roscoe Davis and Darryl Bryant in WVU’s 2008 class and should become the go-to-guy in Morgantown with the departure of Joe Alexander to the NBA Draft.

Let's see, we lost out on a Sampson recruit that chose to go play for Bob Huggins....why am I not worried about losing this guy?
  • IUUTIU
Sampson.....then Huggins....you have to question ability to judge character.
  • seriously... I saw Emmanuel Negedu play last summer at the AMC tourney in Bloomington. The kid is an absolute beast. He looked so much stronger and more athletic than anyone else on the court. If we got him that would be a miracle. I think Crean might be able to pull it off, but Tennessee might present some pretty stiff competition. Everyone CROSS YOUR FINGERS

I think our upper hand is he played with Indiana Elite, knows Bloomington and Matt "freakin" Roth should help. Not to mention AUTOMATIC playing time.
  • cojames
If we were able to land Emmanuel Negedu this would turn out to be a very good class for our Hooisers this year, and give us that athletic big that would fit very nicely in Crean's system. If he does in fact become a Hoosier, I don't think anyone would have predicted Crean would be able to turn things around so quickly and recruit a class of this caliber in such a short amount of time.
  • jgongora86
Yeah he's very athletic. I think we have a shot at him. Show no mercy Coach crean.
  • hoosiergal
Nedegu played on Indiana Elite with Matt Roth. Teammates again? Hey Matt give your buddy a call and tell him how great it is to be a Hoosier!
  • This would be a great score....says IU and Tenn. are in the mix. Marquette was listed too. The Crean/IU combination may seal the deal on this one. Lets keep our fingers crossed.

You know getting rid of 95% of the team wasn't so bad after all, I have seen ONE we miss you Deandre, Armon, or Jamarcus post........

Give me good coaching, a clean program, and good frosh any day of the week. I still look forward to seeing a well coached Jordan Crawford this season.
  • ricbraun
I dunno, I will kind of miss Armon. Kid had talent, more than Crawford, and thats more important than anything
  • woodpecker
Dam, I would love this dude to play ball for IU!!!!!
  • Kelin Blab
Did I mention Emmanuel played with Indiana Elite, so he knows enough about Bloomington.....

Emmanuel Negedu ask for his release from Arizona. He is a 4 star 6'7 forward, just wondering if Crean would go after him being we ca n offer instant PT and he is supposed to be extremely athletic
  • Kelin Blab
WOW Emmanuel Negedu will make you forget about Kevin Jones and remeber the days of Ray Tolbert...........to put it simple....if he gets the ball in the paint....WATCH YOUR HEAD.....see it for yourself....He will be the guy at the very end posterizing someone.....I hope this is true.....he would be a GREAT get...

Thanks for the link. Pretty impressive!

Gary Parrish is commenting that Emmanuel Negedu is asking for a release from Arizona and that IU could be a possiblity for this PF. I am not real familiar with this kid except that he is ranked in the top 50. Anyone have an opinion on this kid?
  • RobertSchell
Kevin Jones....wow, forgot about that name after his interest in IU in the fall, when he stated how much he liked Kelvin Sampson....Ebanks to WV doesn't really surprise me, and I look forward to seeing Jones and Ebanks playing ball together....Best of luck to both....

This is a much smarter thing for him than Memphis I think, he won't have to fight Tyreke Evans for playing time.

In an unrelated question, did Joe Alexander sign with an agent? I enjoyed watching him in the tournament and was wondering if he still had the option to come back
  • Alexander hasn't signed with an agent, but he's projected to be a late lottery/mid first round pick, so he'll likely stay in the draft.
  • BTOWN40
    Any word on Sutton's decesion?
  • Nope, but the signing period ends on the 21st so news should be coming very soon.
  • jgongora86
I would have picked Texas if augustein still there he could have dominated and gone deep into the tournament.
  • at least its not memphis
  • jgongora86
Not trying to be mean here, but honestly if you really trust Bob Huggins then I am Mickey Mouse! Man, if thinks West Virginia is anything like IU he's nuts. We are ten times more passionate, and our campus is ten times better than theirs. That being said, I wish him nothing but the best. It seemed like he was a nice kid.
