Pretty easy to catch just have the compliance group call the recruit to see if he has been contacted. Also we're talking about hundreds of calls so its not like they had to catch 1 illegal call. Lastly, this is the same exact rule he broke at Ok. so if you were the compliance group what rule do you think you would check to make sure it was being followed......

Everyone seems happy to let it all wash away since Sampson is gone and we have a coach we like. However the last few seasons have been thrown away not to mention the next few as we try to rebuild. Also there is the IU name, we can no longer say that we have always run a clean program. It shouldn't end at Sampson.

Personally, (and this is based entirely on gut feeling and irresponsible speculation), I believe that maybe Greenspan had a whiff of what was going on with the phone call situation, and maybe he chose to let it go a little while - he might have even set things up originally to to be deliberately a little bit loose on this issue...the motive being that I don't believe for a minute that Greenspan wanted KS as his new coach, I think it was rammed down his throat by Herbert....and maybe old Alan decided the best way to get rid of KS was to give him a little rope to hang himself with on something relatively minor where he thought it might not have any negative impact for IU. Because, despite all the negative publicity, Greenspan is a pretty smart, savvy guy....far too smart to not have recognized the need for tight monitoring of the phone call situation given KS's history...it just doesn't make sense that they didn't have tighter monitoring in place. But with the specific termination clauses in KS's contract maybe Greenspan thought the best way to get rid of a bad hire would be to have that bad hire fire themselves - maybe even by somehow violating his contract without committing a major violation....like I said, this is all pure speculation. I guess I just needed to scratch the conspiracy theory itch this afternoon....

Totally agree. How can the compliance department ensure that rules are not being broken, other than having KS and his staff clear every telephone call with the compliance department PRIOR to making the call. That's absurd, much like KS' excuse that it was the compliance department's fault that he violated the rules.

In one respect Sampson is right. He should not be the only one going down for his sins. Greenspan and whomever the compliance officer should also be fired.

Also, many of you seem to have a negative POV on Greenspan. I have no bias about it and therefore I see no evidence yet of his failures other than the circle jerk in the KS firing which I thought was botched and amatuerish.

I know there are a lot of pages but since I have time I have read alot of those pages. Briefly :

1. Coaches were using home phones and personal cell phones which donot get caught by the IU compliance software.
2. Coaches knew that these phone calls were supposed to be reported on log sheets but they did not report them
3. If IU found a call in its investigation that was " inconclusive" they counted it as a violation such that actual REAL violations are lower than reported
4.
