Around the Hall: Nick Williams

by Alex Bozich in Media | April 22nd, 2008

Indiana basketball was in the news yesterday with the signing of Mobile (AL) guard Nick Williams. Here’s a gathering of coverage from around the Web:

I don't know if this will actually develop into anything, but Nick Williams plays on the same team as Demarcus Cousins. I know he has already given a verbal to UAB, but he had some kind of interest in Indiana at one point (even though it was when we had Mike Davis running things). Maybe having his former teammate in Bloomington will induce him to re-evaluate his options and come to the Hall for at least a year.
  • Well when they were told to do what they were supposed to do they should of done it. I'd like to see Armond back because I think he was almost brainwashed. He was recruited by Davis and now has this thing for KS. He had a bright future. I'd like to see him come back and another big man, but if he doesn't than oh well.

Simplifying: We have 9 players on scholarship w/o counting Bassett/Ellis and maybe "projecting" only 11 to give( vs 12 )based on the NCAA action. SOmething's gotta give.

Assuming the NCAA finds the violations were strictly related to KS and not "institutional" THEN I doubt we will get a post season ban or any new penalty on Crean himself. This leaves losing a scholarship as a likely move.

IF we lose a scholarship in addition to the self imposed loss THEN this leaves only 2 slots left for 3 needed players ie Bassett/Ellis/ new big guy. I feel that this scenario is likely causing some problems.

From what I read of Williams and Dumes they may be natural replacements for both suspended players.
