I graduated high school with Devan Dumes and I must say Decatur had its best high school basketball in years with him leading the way. Given we were no state champions, but Dumes put up star player numbers and was on the all state 1st team twice. So if Crean is looking for a good solid backup, hes going down the right path by picking up Dumes. He's quick off the ball, a great shooter, an excellent defender, and definitely plays his heart out. Give this guy a chance, and im sure you wont regret it.

Basically, what your stats are showing is that Crawford was a much smarter player than Gordon. Those higher ratios and percentages shows that he was taking open looks, thinking about what he could do, and taking smart, good shots. Too often with Gordon, it just seemed that he was going to shoot it, no matter where on the floor he was standing. This isn't a knock against EJ so much as it is a scathing review of his "coaches".

Add me to the list. I think Crawford showed enough his freshmen year to believe that with the right coaching he can be a top player in the Big Ten for the next few years.

I love Crawford and have loved him all year. People on here have been giving him more scrutiny then deserved, he might have turned the ball over a little bit but remember he is a feshman, he may have made many mental lapses but he is a freshman. He had flashes against Minnesota, Michigan State at home, and Kentucky of just exactly how good this guy can be. He can shoot just as well as EJ, Crawford is probably more athletic and a better ball handler. You guys wait until me and Jerry are right about Mr. Jordan Crawford here in a few years he is going to be a stud.

No need to wait 3 years. Despite playing 70% of Gordon's minutes it might amaze you to know that Crawford had:
- higher FG %
- higher 3 pt FG %
- Higher Reb/game
- Higher assist/TO ratio
- Same assists/game

He also was the guard most often forced more to defend forwards( not counting Ellis). You probably did not check the season stats ..........so , now's the time.

whats the word on stephenson, dennis, watford, and van treese? These guys would round out a nice little recruiting class. Then add Bouchie and Eltson....wow now that would be a class.

You would be surprised. Winning the "right way" is actually asking a lot these days. Every program for every sport cuts corners along the way, some just do it worse than others. It is actually not even always the program, boosters can be extremely shady and have a negative influence on young atheltes

Armon could potentially be the difference between a winning record and a losing record. I do think Crawford will become a good player, but we just can't expect that to be a certainty, especially given how it took his brother 4 years to get it together. asking jordan next year to carry the load is not something we want to do

You had me until the stuff about academics. One thing that has bothered me lately is reading all of the, "this is what we need, Indiana kids that want to play for the front of the jersey, not guys looking to leave right away for the NBA."

Listen, it's nice having the Carmel kid on the end of the bench, but if we want to get back to elite status where we're competing year in and year out for championships, then we need the top recruits no matter where they're from. Look at the rosters in the Final Four they're littered with 5-star recruits and McDonald's All-Americans, and those four schools have been consistently at the top of the ranking for the last 8-10 years or longer.

The Indiana kids we need to come back to IU are the Oden's, Conley's, May's and Zeller's of the world.

Plus, it's much better to build a team rather than have a team of really good players. You can have a star-studded line-up from top to bottom, but if they can't function as one unit, then what's the purpose? To say you have them? Hooray.

It's not so much what we as fans think of the kid's game as to whether he's a one-and-done, it's what the kid thinks of himself.

Crean has a 86% graduation rate among black student athletes. i am confident that he will dramatically reduce the risks in the academic lives of the kids. As a result if this is Basset's problem then he will be back.

I personally believe that Crawford is headed toward becoming a fantastic player, better all around than Gordon, and what we need right now is scoring down low

ricbraun...academics may not be high on your list but I do believe your "we want Bassett" argument centers around....ACADEMICS. There is a reason Crean hasn't come out and said he is on the team it is waiting for that all important report card!

Yes winning is important but winning got us in this position we are in....I want to win the right way with the right coach right players doing the RIGHT thing on and off the court...which isn't too much to ask these days.

Armon would be helpful but how many games is he worth next year???? If we had him great if not I am fine with that too. I do believe Jordan Crawford could be a great big ten player, we saw major potential in him and actual growth during the season ...even with minimal coaching from KS.
