Big A and ITHers, Anyojne know what is happening with Robert Goff a 6 foot 9 prospect from Indianapolis who Sampson (curse his name) offered a scholarship to and as far as I can tell has yet to commit. I heard he had the usual Sampson (curse his name) affliction, academic problems. Anyone?

I'd rather have a lousy season next year and work on rebuilding for the future. I'd rather rebuild for the future than a quick fix. Indiana Hoosiers are one of the top programs in the country with a history of championships beginning in 1940. I want the Hoosiers to still be battling for championships in 2040 and beyond. .

I saw that but the “homesick” thing makes no sense given PU is about 45minutes from Valpo???? Not sure what is up with that other than maybe he wants to be a bigger fish in another pond. Sucks for PU, he is a good player and solid kid. He hurt us more than Hummel did this season.

I agree, I don't think next year should be written off – we have a great coach and he will build the program with the right assistants and the right kind of players. Personally, if accomplishing that means we have to go 9-5 or 10-4 pre-conference next year, and 7-9 in the conference, so be it. If that happens, I know that years 2-20 of the Crean era will bring great success. This guy is going to do great things in Indiana from a recruiting standpoint – he will make IU the school players dream of playing for when they grow up.

I'm all for being optimistic, but an NCAA birth is just so unlikely for this team. Who is going to be the low post presence? I like Pritchard but as a freshman he can't be expected to carry the load, we don't know what we will get out of Holman since he is so raw, and we know DeAndre is horrible and Taber can't score. Crawford has to show the ability to consistently perform, and I don't even know how good of defense this team will be able to play. The Big Ten will be pretty decent next year with Purdue not losing anybody, OSU being better and also not losing anybody, MSU being their usual selves, and the rest of the pack only improving because no team besides us and Wisconsin really lost any players. The schedule will be rough, if you've looked at the Maui schedule you will know it as UNC, Texas, ND, and Oregon. I like the optimism, but it is really misplaced. We are going to need to be patient with this team and I am actually kind of looking forward to seeing them improve as the year goes on and possibly getting a NIT berth

tberry I agree…but blaming KS for most of the worlds problems like starvation, nuclear waste, spygate, and IU's problems feels really good until he gets another job then we can heckle him personally……

Ben M….I agree 100% but isn't it sad that we are excited about a guy running an offense…..FINALLY….boy have we been deprived. I remember Crean saying he does not want to get players that will slow IU down from the uptempo style of play he likes…….absolutely awesome

We have a great coach and that coach will build a great team. No problem. Now let's move forward with what we have.

I don't think next year will be a lost cause. I expect to see at least Armond Back. If you look at hoosiernaion and peegs, Tom Crean is activily searching for some players to fill spots. I think we will be fine. One thing that really stands out to me is that Tom Crean will be running an actual offense and will probably have the team more active and aggressive on defense. That is something we lacked under Sampson. It seemed Sampson just relied on talent. We won 25 games last year, but I have to admit the preseason schedule was filled with more bunny games than I had ever seen. If Holloway and Ebanks don't come….oh well. We want guys that want to play for IU and Tom Crean not themselves and KS. Don't get too down on next year because I see us in the top 4 of the Big Ten and an NCAA birth.

if we only win one or two games next year, let them be against purdue. then it would be a successful year, regardless of the rest of the games. well, maybe a win against illinois wouldn't hurt

That's fine. The more we learn about the KS-regime players, the more I think the incoming recruits would likely suffer from the same ills. This is a long term project – we want Crean to rebuild a program that he can run for 20 years the right way. If we have to experience a lean first 1-2 years in order to be patient and build this thing with the right kind of kids, so be it.

I guess at his first year at Marquette he had a late start on recruiting, and kind of held off on landing a bunch of players until the year after. My guess is he'll do the same and not panic and just offer scholarships to sub-standard players.

Yea I will take the hit next year for a solid 09' recruiting class to build around Roth and Pritchard, Eli, B-Mac and hopefully Jordan C. Next year will be a lot easier to deal with given our expectations may be low and we as fans can focus on BBALL ONLY for the first time in 5 years or so…………….and if we beat PU AGAIN.

The more scholarships that Crean has at his disposal to find and recruit players that fit his style of play and are good character kids, the better. Next year is going to be a lost year at this point and there is nothing we can do about it but brace for impact. It could be like the Cincinnati Bearcats team from a couple of years ago that was recovering from the firing of Bob Huggins and had a lame-duck coach (albeit a very good coach) in Andy Kennedy. They couldn't recruit any one, and had only 7 (i think) scholarship players. They had to recruit kids from the football team who were tall just to get kids with size. It is worth mentioning that that team should have been in the NCAA tournament but was robbed by the selection committee and wound up going far in the NIT. UC right now is still recovering, although the recovery time for Indiana should be less than that of a good but not great program in Cincinnati
