I bash Lynch because he is simply filling a role and should get no personal credit for IU meager successes last season. After Hep's death any of the assistants could have done as well or better.

Lynches personal career has be mediocre at best and there is no reason that one should believe that magically he can take Indiana to anything other than continued mediocrity.

His hire as an interim coach was understandable but his hire for the permanent coach was unforgivable.

You are correct. Not changing my mind. Lose lose situation for me. You hire him, you go down too. You think he's a bad hire, get on record and say it. Wouldn't be the first time the AD said it wasn't necessarily his fault for the hire. It's not unprecedented. If you thought it was bad, at least get on the record. If not, tough shit, sorry buddy, the buck stops here.

I've been saying this very thing for two months, guess I'm not credible or something.

The real thing that's hurting Greenspan is that the one thing he screwed up also happened to be the single most important thing at Indiana. But with Crean, all the other coaches, the black budget, and the new facilities; I've always thought the good outweighed the bad in Greenspan's tenure.

Lastly, I truly fail to understand all the bashing that Lynch receives. He led IU to their best season in 15 years despite a tragedy. I call that a great success.

I thought the KS hire was very clever , not at all PC and for most of 2 seasons it looked very good. After the recent debacle I see that IU was maybe not realistic or not ready for KS aggressiveness.

BUt for all you guys to trash the hire like you KNEW this would happen is really crazy............for the most part you 1) did not know and 2) loved the recruiting 3) liked the winning..

We got it right this time and looking backward just makes everyone appear hypocritical

Further proof that IU was more concerned about political correctness - replace a minority coach with another minority coach than finding the most qualified coach. Coach Crean has said for the past two days he was never contacted two years ago about replacing Davis. The only other reason I can see (other than PC ) is the AD's budget two years ago wasn't what it is today, especially if Stallings (RUKidding?) was his first choice. I put Greenspan at slightly above .500 right now and certainly hope that Lynch turns out to be the right decision as I have little faith he can be successful, though I hope I'm wrong.

No coach is going to work with someone in Compliance looking over his shoulder every second, as I'm sure KS did not. IU found out about the impermissible phone calls and reported the situation to the NCAA. The additional allegations, that KS gave false or misleading information to the NCAA investigators and the University is on KS. The administration did find out what was going on and it took action. (we'll see how proper it was in June). Until then, and in light of this post, don't we have to give Greenspan the benefit of the doubt?
