The big risk is that the NCAA would be even more harsh when coming down on IU this summer if they continue to let Sampson roam the sidelines.

I really don't want to take that chance.

and I agree that it's always the players that pay for the mistakes of the coach. Sad.

I am not sure and a little torn over let a lame duck coach continue through the tourney…………I can understand it from the players point of view, but in a big picture I can understand getting rid of him now froma University point of view.

Him being around would continue to be a distraction in some sense……..if you are going to break up with someone do it before the prom so you can get another date and enjoy yourself…………

I heard Jay Bilas this morning saying that Sampson's lawyers and IU's lawyers had been talking all day yesterday, trying to iron out an agreement, so hopefully it won't come to lawsuits.

HOWEVER…that's just one more unnamed “report” from a “source”, and we've seen how those have played out over the past 24-36 hours.

My brother's friend's mother's aunt's hairdresser's daughter who is friend's with McCallum's son is not a “source close to the team.”

I understand that sometimes they are a necessary evil, but unamed sources make me ill…

if IU has 90 days to respond (from Feb 8), as reported here: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=325... then I say let Sampson coach the tournament. Don't punish DJ, Taber, etc when they did nothing.

I will be glad when this is settled….I don't like some of the stuff I am hearing…
KS threatning to sue the University, The players want McCallum over Dakich…..

If KS sues, after IU has given his cheating a$$ and 2nd and third chance, that would be the worse thing in a long time…….how about an apology instead of a lawsuit

I think Ray McCallum is an interesting figure in this entire mess.

He's been with Sampson now for four years, I believe (2 at Oklahoma and 2 at Indiana).

In a written statement, committee chairperson Tom Yeager said at the time: “The former head coach created and encouraged an atmosphere among his staff of deliberate non-compliance, rationalizing the violations as being a result of ‘prioritizing’ rules.”

If as the initial report suggested when he was sanctioned regarding calls at Oklahoma, that he encouraged his coaches to do inappropriate things...why has Ray McCallum not fallen victim to NCAA scrutiny?

Is he that squeaky clean? I do not believe he was named in the Oklahoma report either. Was he not involved in recruiting? Did he refuse to do things Sampson asked of him regarding inappropriate recruiting? If that's the case, why didn't Sampson fire him?

I'm not saying that one clean coach means that Sampson never encouraged this stuff, but it seems to indicate something and it would be interesting to know what McCallum knows...

It's bad but I don't know if it'll ever beat the dark days surrounding the end of the RMK regime.

As for our performance on Sat., I think the guys will come out prepared and hopefully with a little chip on their shoulder over what they have had to deal with this past week.

With all this speculation, I just hope it doesn't get any uglier for IU. This could end up being one of the darkest days in IU history.

What I'm concerned with is how quickly can we recover, regardless of what happens?

As I said before the dumbest thing IU could do is FIRE now due to 1) legal exposure, 2) no negotiation w NCAA, 3) player loyalty. After the season 1) and 2) will run thei rcourse and players will be calmer. To have even tried the idea out on the players is reason enough to fire Greenspan.

Since KS allegedly rejected resigning, the only way out, then I see no solution othehr to finish the season as is.

Today's press conf if any is going to be interesting
