Andrews gets reaction from White and Gordon

by Alex Bozich in Media | February 15th, 2008

You gotta hand it to Erin Andrews. Not only is she stunning, she’s a damn good solid reporter. She’s in Bloomington as we speak prepping for tomorrow night’s game with Michigan State and had some reaction from both D.J. White and Eric Gordon on the Sampson situation. Here’s what she had to say on the World Wide Leader’s 6PM edition of Sportscenter:

I have to agree with both D.J. and Gordon from the standpoint that ruining the season for the players is the wrong thing to do. They weren’t involved and that’s the most unfortunate thing about this whole situation.

*Okay, Okay, damn good might be a little strong. Now settle down and have another look at Erin.

ok your going to kill me, but I'll say it anyway . I don't think she is that great of a reporter. She may be the best of the sexy on court reporters but definetly nothing compared to a Jackie Mac Mullan, or Christine Brennan. Thats just my opinion. She's good but not great. Thats all I want to say. She bloody gorgeous, and yes I would act like a total geek around her.

Sounds like both are placing blame on the NCAA and/or the IU administration, and not on the coach, where it should be. Had he not been so arrogant and repeated his violations, he wouldn't have jeopardize the players and the team. Unfortunately he involved the players by virtue of screwing up as a head coach at IU, which indirectly affects them. Yes it would be wrong to punish this group of kids. If IU fires him, unfortunately for Gordon and White, who chose to play for him, will be effected by it and that's a shame. They couldn't control the actions of the coach and they aren't supposed to. So in his poor decision making, he possibly screws them and future players. Probably this makes a stronger case to fire him. He has no control over his life and his selfishness most likely will cost the team. Those two would only have a few games to go before the NBA and they would be wise to stick it out until then. It would definitely mean Gordon is gone after 1 season. Let's hope the NCAA punishes Sampson more than IU. Maybe ban him from coaching for a couple of years. It wouldn't be right to screw the players. I feel terrible for DJ as he has poured his heart and soul into this team and season. I just want the next 7 days to go by quickly.
  • agreed. DJ is the biggest victim of all of this. think about all the shit that poor kid has had to go through during his four years here.
  • Yeah, DJ does not deserve this. This is the saddest part of the whole thing.
  • kelin
I really couldn't expect the kids to say anything else "publically" BUT I am damn sure someone has said, I am fed up with this.....I just want to play ball.....

I think Mark Schlabach hit the nail on the head for where this situation is right now, and where it is going next week. I'll quickly paraphrase his article: Sampson is gone.

It breaks my heart hearing about DJ and EJ and all the other players. No 18-22 year old kids should have to go through something like this. It just is not fair to them. With that said he has to go NOW. No two ways about it. I feel terrible for the players but Sampson can not coach this team any longer.
  • kelin
Well.....7 days from today.....McRobbie will come out with another press conference and again he will say NOTHING. People don't get your hopes up......until after the season.
  • i disagree. greenspan will make his recommendation on the 22nd and sampson will be done. he'll either be suspended for the rest of the season or fired on that day. his indiana career has two games left - tonight and Tuesday vs. Purdue.
  • jgongora
Listen. I don't know about you guys, but I will continue to root for these kids. They are going through something many of us could not handle in such a young age. We owe it to them to cheer are asses off, and show we care about them. Even after they all graduate, I will apoligze to each of these young men for going through something that they didn't deserve to be in. Come on guys, I still believe. Lets show them why hoosier fans are the best in the world.

So, reporters had been told that the players had requested to be questioned about the Michigan State game only, NOT the NCAA investigation, and the first thing that she asks is questions about the NCAA investigation. Thanks for having a little sympathy and understanding for the kids. If she didn't have a rack, she would be totally worthless. Typical ESPN ‘LOOK AT ME’ reporter. And for this she's a damn good reporter? She has a job purely for the T&A.
  • JamesHardy
but the great part is Brian...SHE HAS A NICE RACK! And man...is that chick some serious EYE CANDY! Give her a break.
  • Brian,

I get where you are coming from for sure. However, I think the questions are fair to ask and I think the media should ask them regardless of the "warnings" issued by IU media relations. The fact that the media relations department is trying to prevent certain questions from being asked is ridiculous. I doubt she prodded White and Gordon for an answer; she probably asked how things were going and they answered.

For our purposes, the fact that she got feedback from Indiana's top two players and no one else in the media did, is good enough for me.

President McRobbie: "As president, I believe the most important measure of our success in intercollegiate athletics is not to be found in the win-loss columns," McRobbie said. "Rather, it is in how well we measure up to our own high standards for good sportsmanship, academic success, the welfare of our student-athletes and playing by the rules."

A-F*(KING-MEN to that brutha!...YO Kelvin...you see that twinkle in your eye??? That's your career dissipation light...and it's headed into overdrive...BEEEEOTCH! If you've seen Backdraft, you know what I'm talkin about. What's that.....tick....tock....tick....tock....tick...tock it must be the time running out on Mr. "I-didn't'do-anything-wrong"...yahoooooooOOO!
  • JamesHardy
I was checking out the poll question results up top...and it looks like Sampson may be the only guy in America with a lower approval rating than G.W.B!!!!
  • Indyhoosier
What I don't understand is how everyone is counting us out now. We are still the same team. We are still definitely capable of winning the big ten and making a run in the tourney. I can guarantee that these kids will still do their best. There is still plenty of BASKETBALL left this season.
  • BrianK
yeah but its the mental thing thats in question now. Those kids got alot to worry about right now.
  • CB in OR
    Erin has huge guppies.
  • Sherron Wilkerson
I think it will pull them together as a team
  • Erin is drop dead gorgeous
Christ I'd like to shove my microphone in her mouth
