WOW...had to go to the bar with 10:00 remaining in the second...what a game. Now i know a lot of people are going to give us shit for turning it over so many times and playing suspect defense at other times and adding to it some sometimes stagnant offense....BUT, IU showed a lot of heart in the last couple minutes. No way on earth we should have won this game...but we did and that speaks VOLUMES about our squad. Past IU teams would have pissed this game away in the closing minutes and lost by about 13, but not these guys. I don't want to hear squat about needing a wake-up call this that and the other..we WON, that is important. We did it in a very ugly kind of way but we showed a lot of balls and we won it without EJ being dominant.

DJ played one hell of a game..a few not so bright spots in his game but did you see him during timeouts torwards the end? He was fired up and boiling over, props to him for keeping the fire under our asses IN or OUT of the game. Heck of a play at the end there to swat that ball away from the goal.

EJ...not much offense, but when you pick up three quick fouls (two which were way questionable) it really takes away your ability to be aggressive . Regardless, good defense at the end and way to hit the closing minutes free throws.

The Undisciplined one...well, thats his name for a reason but without his first-half heat we wouldn't have won this game. He also hit that clutch free throw line jumped with under 3 to go that game us some momentum. I give him a "B" for the game..good enough to avoid my hateful judgement for 50% of our next game..this expires after the next game of course so Jordan, if you are going to botch plays...you better get it out of the way against Penn St. or i will not be so forgiving.

Lastly, Lancey Lancey Lancey...Mr.Stemler..as much as i wanted to kill you for going for that pump -fake in the final minutes where you SHOULD have given them an AND1 oppurtunity, I commend you for being clutch and stepping up when the boys needed you. Stemler gets a lot of BS sent his way, some deservedly so, but he earned some respect back from me and i assume many others for his late game nuts. Props on your testes sir, indeed.

That pretty much covers it, hopefully we have good turn outs for the upcoming home stand and we don't come in expecting things to be easy bc of homecourt and a lack of G. Claxton. Go Big Red, extend this streak!
  • DavidC
A win's a win. Now a little relaxation with Penn State and Iowa at home
  • HoosierSmitty
I read that Minnesota only scored 16 points off our 26 turnovers. Yes, we won, but let's think about that. A better team is going to KILL us if we turn the ball over that much.

Our young guards better get grown up NOW. We can't have those kind of numbers.
  • Ripe for an upset? I think not.
  • Hoosier_Hound
I think IU looked damn ripe. In fact it looked like they ripened, fell, it every branch on the way down, but luckily managed to hit Minny squarely on the noggin to knock 'em down.
  • Great win for mid-January. We knew we were the better team and found a way to grind it out. If we make those turnovers in March (and we won't), consider me concerned.

Now, to everyone who doesn't believe, can Stemler sit at the big kid's table now?
  • HoosierSmitty
Stemler earns a free pass from criticism for at least a game....well maybe half a game....we are Hoosier fans...

HUGE HUGE HUGE THREE. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU...

This game is for all those who say IU isn't a team. We beat a pretty good team on the road without Gordon playing well and DJ playing well only in short spurts. We have guys that can and WILL step up on any given night.
  • Dale
now we are gonna have to listen to timmy tell us about how we need a humbling loss to penn state....
  • HoosierSmitty
Ok, at least I can sleep peacefully tonight...I didn't destroy too much furniture
  • peaychris
my girlfriend really like the idea of this post!! i dont have to tell her how bad IU was with the ball tonight, i can tell everyone here!
  • Chairthrower
I just want to make a comment to all of you that about ready to make the posts about how bad the team played and that we better watch out because..... Just incase you haven't noticed, WE HAVE WON ALL OF THESE BAD GAMES!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • HoosierSmitty
I have to agree...I mean MSU played horribly and lost at Iowa....We've played some pretty pitiful games to start the Big Ten season, but we've pulled them out...

I just worry about Bassett's health. And not to knock Gordon, but he's looked rather pedestrian lately...I am not sure about WHEN the big game comes anymore, but IF it's going to come...he did sink some big free throws and play solid defense at the end...so I guess I can't complain too much...but ya know..we're spoiled..we expect 30 points!
  • SanDiegoIUfan
Wow, what a big win. We lucked out on this one fellas, enjoy it.
  • Hoosier_Hound
Did you see how high DJ went on that rebound! Out-jumped everyone to swat the putback away.
  • HoosierSmitty
Let's get these four seconds over with...
  • DJ White Version 2006-07 doesn't swat that ball away.
  • Hoosier_Hound
    Very cool by Gordon.
  • Good teams steal bad games...
  • Hoosier_Hound
    Great defense by EJ!
  • peaychris
it looks like they are going to beat the spread! yea me
  • SanDiegoIUfan
    STEMLER!!!!
  • bc
Indiana finds a way to win again on the road. Wow. We better get used to tough games no matter where we play.
  • peaychris
we were lucky to get that foul called
  • Hoosier_Hound
Stemler! Where have you been all season?!
  • TAKE THAT, STEMLER HATERS!
  • Chairthrower
just about ready to type that!!!! Thanks
  • peaychris
    wow lance!!!!!!!
  • Hoosier_Hound
damn, Ellis didn't even know what side of the floor he was on
  • bc
I'll lay off Stemler for awhile
  • HoosierSmitty
Yeah, that was a foul on Jamarcus....really now
  • Him not taking the open jumper should have been called as a foul. It certainly was offensive at least.
  • Ratliff has to be an upgrade over TUO right now...
  • Chairthrower
If you would have told me at the beginning of the year that this team could go 9 min. without a basket I would have said you were crazy.
  • Seriously, did I miss something happening to Ratliff??? This is the type of game that begs for a guy like him.
  • peaychris
12 points in 15 min.... come on
  • peaychris
welcome to conference play on the road....
  • DId AJ fail a class at halftime?
  • Type of game that turns boys into men...
  • HoosierSmitty
We don't deserve to win this game.
  • Never thought I'd say this, but we might be better off without Gordon on the floor right now.
  • bc
    Thank you crawford
  • peaychris
coleman looks like tashawn prince... man i hated him at kentucks
  • Chairthrower
    We better change something quick!!!!!
  • We had all timeout to draw up a play and that's what we did???
  • Chairthrower
What is MW doing standing with back to the ball on the O end? Lets go DJ!!!!!
  • Less dribble, more DJ. Need to get MW out of there, put Stemler in to stretch things out.
  • SanDiegoIUfan
Nobody is moving without the ball. Its just dribbling and 1 on 1 play, with 1 pass and a bad 3. We need to move without the ball!
  • ESPN production meeting, 3 am this morning:

"We still don't have a compelling storyline for the IU-Minnesota game tonight."

"Wait, I've got it! Isn't their arena really old? And I heard a lot of the fans can't see the court!"
  • peaychris
what about maybe a halftime segment about how the coaches wifes' do eachothers hair??
  • Beats the hell out of those Indiana University infomercials they used to show on WTTV.
  • Jmoney2584
biggest homer reffing i have seen since the '96-'99 bulls
  • Jmoney2584
man deandre what are you doing on the bench...lifting weights? ball seem a little light? nice idea..bad pass
  • peaychris
when ej is on the floor crawford shouldnt be allowed to shoot!
  • Looks like someone told our boys that when they get a defensive stop, we don't have to play vs. the press...
  • Mr_C
F*ck the cheap seats. No body gives a damn.
  • Jmoney2584
Gordon HAS to start moving with out the ball, i mean i know we are trying to get it down to DJ but EJ moving on the perimeter and taking backdoor cuts will move other people out of defensive position. He is just kind of waiting on the wings...Go Hoosiers
  • Jmoney2584
Doris Burke is the female Bill Walton of NCAA announcing
  • Hoosier_Hound
Keep sending it down to DJ.
  • Hoosier_Hound
Good call, completely took out Ellis' legs.
  • Effing cheap foul. That looked dirty.
  • Mmm...slower up the court vs. the press=elevator shaft oop to DJ...
  • Jmoney2584
We need EJ to get more involved...he goes through passive phases i feel

    Nice DJ
  • Jmoney2584
flippin ay, sampson must have a 4-leaf clover in his wingtips....
  • maybe time to add a press-buster package?
  • HoosierSmitty
Someone please show some basketball IQ on the court! Please
  • You mean the best way to beat a press isn't to dribble with your head down as fast as you can?
  • Jmoney2584
that dude threw DJ to the ground..
  • Jmoney2584
damnit basset keep your head up
  • How right-handed is Bassett?
  • peaychris
IU has 2 times as many fouls as minn
  • peaychris
and 5 times as many turnovers!! good thing minn is shooting 30%
  • Jmoney2584
omg if this chick doesnt shut up im going to flip....real hard
  • peaychris
she kinda looks like hillary clinton doesnt she??
  • Time for Bassett/Ratliff backcourt...
  • mini
has this team seen a press before?
  • Jmoney2584
    damnit..another "rare" one by TUO
  • Jmoney2584
bout time we get a foul called for us....sucks it took EJ hitting the floor to make it happen
  • Jmoney2584
two in a row on our favor..omg, i just crapped...brb
  • HoosierSmitty
Oh wait...we had a hand in the face...that means ...IT'S A FOUL! FU Refs!
  • Everyone, I want you to welcome Dave O'Brien to the arena tonight, he's new to the game of basketball and has never watched IU...

"A rare mistake by Jordan Crawford..."????
  • HoosierSmitty
    No kidding!
  • Jmoney
the big ten network needs to get in touch with not being assholes
  • peaychris
these big ten commericals suck dont they??
  • Nah, man, I really like the poetry, they're in touchZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
  • peaychris
I dont think we will be able to sustain the 60% shooting or the 70% 3 pt shooting so we better stop the carelessness with the ball! i just hope we can keep playing with the lead, and make some good stops
  • Chuck
Indiana has played like crap the first half, but are still up by 8. We are getting so homered, has anyone else seen a number of phantom fouls called on Indiana. Terrible officiated game (not that we are playing good enough to be up by 8). WAY TOO MANY TURNOVERS!
  • Jmoney2584
More turnovers than the pastry rack over at the eastside Kroger....but none quite as sweet...
  • Jmoney2584
about time it let me log in...F some numbers after my name
  • jmoney2584
After just witnessing Providence manhandle UConn I like our chances coming up against them
  • Stanley Robinson's putback dunk was delicious though.
  • jmoney2584
If EJ can not pick another BS foul, then we should come out the second half with a little run. Insert deandre thomas (for this one seems to cause problems for the D size-wise), and a dash of TUO to keep them honest and we should be ok.

Second half Theme= Protect the ROCK!! If we cut those turnovers in half then we win convincingly.
  • HoosierSmitty
Well no Jordan Crawford analysis from me tonight....he's playing alright...took a wild shot, but he was hot, so you can't blame him.

To be up 8 is amazing without DJ and Gordon for most of that half. DJ played big early, though and Gordon had some nice assists and two big buckets.

We're not handling the ball well, and despite the "poor" officiating, we still commit stupid fouls....Bassett and DeAndre and AJ are are examples...

That was probably one of the weakest 20 minutes we've played all season, and we're up 8....so again, I'm not going to complain...let's just come out strong to start the second half.
  • kelin
Did I thank Jordan Crawford for coming to IU?
Did I say Deandre should play more?

Good first half, lets not screw it up...14TO's hurt but firepower helps!
  • Hoosier_Hound
Since they are playing the worst (read: dumbest) half since the Xavier game, at least they were smart enough to have the best shooting half of the season concurrently.
  • I'll take an eight point lead at half. Ho boy, will I take that.
  • SanDiegoIUfan
Yeah no doubt, especially when you figure who has been carrying our team, the undisciplined one. Tough to expect him to keep it up in the second half.
  • Absolutely. If not for DJ's calming presence on the offensive end, I think we're in trouble.

Someone needs to show TUO every miss he's ever had, and then every make he's ever had. When he sets his feet, he's great. When he doesn't, the Barn Animals make like they're gonna kick Mrs. O'Leary's lantern.

Name of the game in the second half:
    1. Foul management
    2. Limiting turnovers (especially in the backcourt!!!!)
  • HoosierSmitty
We don't have a WHOOP-YO-BUTT mentality...I don't know if you blame the coach or youth or what...but come on...we had them on the ropes..and here they come again....we make some dumb decisions..
  • Hoosier_Hound
Jumping over Armon Basset is a foul? Seriously, the guy kick basset in the shoulder and Basset gets called for a foul?
  • jmoney2584
    TOO MUCH KICK.....little kick
  • Mmm, I agree the refs have been bad tonight, but you can't undercut someone when they dunk like that. Bassett kept moving with the gopher in the air.
  • Hoosier_Hound
But that's my point, he didn't undercut him, he ran underneath him.

(I meant the comment mostly to be facetious.)
  • jmoney2584
wow...I wonder if any of these Stripes are tight with Tim Donaghy
  • peaychris
this is why we are winning

    Field Goals 14-22 (63.6%) 11-29 (37.9%)
    Free Throws 3-3 (100.0%) 2-8 (25.0%)
    3-pointers 7-10 (70.0%) 3-8 (37.5%)
  • HoosierSmitty
The Teddy Bear with a foul! Shocking....
  • Anyone noticing what a great passer Big D is? I guess when opponents can't reach the ball, you can get in great passing position.
  • HoosierSmitty
That shot was stupid by Crawford...but we'll take it...at least he made that, unlike the jumpshot early in the game when he could have had a layup.
  • jmoney2584
Crahhwfowrd my sonn...you have showwnn GREAT...discipline
  • Hoosier_Hound
Hell yes double for The Undisciplined One
  • Hoosier_Hound
    The Barn is dead.
  • JCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC
  • TUO plays so much better when he's not worried about playing point! You mean...it's easier to hit a shot when my feet are set and I just catch and shoot rather than dribbling into a 22 footer???
  • HoosierSmitty
How on earth are we winning this game? I'm simply stunned. If they didn't have the score shown at the bottom of the screen, I'd seriously guess we were down by 8.
  • The heatcheck for TUO, but we'll take the first two.
  • jmoney2584
YESSSS crawford and thomas killin them
  • Hoosier_Hound
Hell yes, for the Undisciplined One.
  • peaychris
CRAWFORD CRAWFORD CRAWFORD!!!!!! CRAWFORD FOR PRESIDENT!!!!
  • Love Ellis running the point over TUO.

DeAndre Thomas coming out party tonight? Put your Rockports on, we're going walking...
  • jmoney2584
    hahaha...rockports
  • Kelin
Every time mike white does something good, he does something that makes you say..you dumbass.

    Dumb fould EJ

Jordan Crawford thank you for coming to IU

Why does everyone's offense run better than ours....or do we have one?

    Deandre should play more tonite.
  • peaychris
wow crawford i wont say anything bad about you for the next 15 minutes!!!
  • jmoney2584
No WAY they just called that on DJ, they are taking away everyhting we have for nothing fouls. You would think Ed Hightower was standing in an undisclosed Williams arena location with a mini-rabbit ear TV and his box of Hooiser voodoo dolls
  • Hoosier_Hound
Mike White just hit DJ in the face on a rebound, DJ went down holding his jersey to his face and ESPN went to commercial.
  • bootsiewhite
doris burke does a good job. better than rafferty, Laz and about a million others
  • Note to Indiana:

You get 10 seconds to advance the ball past midcourt. Think about using 3 of them.
  • peaychris
well this F ing sucks i hope Dj isnt hurt
  • jmoney2584
HA, wya to show disciplined ball shooting mechanics JC
  • Matt
i think we should get more fouls called on us...
  • jmoney2584
We have to win this for EJ now, we are getting screwed by the Zebras
  • Hoosier_Hound
I hate to play the ref's card, but this is ridiculous by the zebras.
  • jmoney2584
OOOMMMGGG we are getting F#@$%, how does this$hit happen. This is rediculous...
  • HoosierSmitty
Wait wait....so DJ just didn't get hacked and Gordon fouled? Are you serious?
  • I couldn't get behind everyone hating on Doris Burke.

I thought she was doing a nice job.

And then she goes and quotes Jimmy Dykes. "The High School Harry passes won't work here..."
  • Dale
can anyone tell me who scored iu's first 3 points?
  • Bassett made a 3.
  • HoosierSmitty
I hate whining about the refs, but we're getting hosed. This is horrible. They are going over our backs, hacking in the post, and lowering their shoulders on offense. It's ridiculous.
  • peaychris
ok big ten here's how you play gordon... if he touches you at all you FALL..
  • jmoney2584
Anyone feel the Minnesota is getting way too hyped up right now.

The "chick" announcer just said "get in your grill..." Man, i can relate to that, im glad she said it...she is in touch with the youth. but really...wtf
  • peaychris
All of these turnovers remind me of Peyton Manning... the early years... and against the chargers
  • Catch the ball guys, we're not playing Longwood.
  • jmoney2584
I mean, I coined it so i definitely support "The Undisciplined One" nickname....he is just like the kid from "kung fu" who must learn to walk the rice paper without making a footprint and snatcheth the marble from his masters palm before it is time to go.
  • WHAT IS THE HURRY???
  • LRubes
tollackson lowers his head and leans his shoulder into DJ at least 3 times now
  • jmoney2584
That was a cheap foul on DJ
  • Dustin W
if they are going to give us a female commentator, next time just dont bring anyone. give us friggin bryant gumble ffs. espn sucks
  • jmoney2584
"just like a woman to notice the hair first *harharharhar*" PSH, friggin sucks
  • DJ is absolutely mannish.
  • jmoney2584
I would like to see some baseline screening, try and get some easy buckets under the hoop. Although EJ is back in so that will open things up.

PS EJ should have shot that instead of handing it to the undisciplined one with time expiring on the 24
  • Motion to refer to Crawford as "The Undisciplined One" the rest of the season...
  • jmoney2584
DJ white is going to be key this game...I mean yea thats a given, but he is playing big out the gate on defense allready
  • bootsiewhite
gotta play with more energy on the road.

    got to.

can't get outhustled by Tubby Ball
  • bootsiewhite
still not a lot of offensive flow.
  • I will defend basket-out on the break.
I will defend basket-out on the break.
I will defend basket-out on the break.
  • Ratliff sure is getting good at fouling a guy that's hitting a three ...
  • Hey, Eli Holman must read ITH...I said last game that he needs to retire the red Ronald McDonald suit...but he's still keeping it real with the Air Jordan embroidered dress shirt...didn't know they made those.
  • jmoney2584
god i hate stemler...but sometimes he makes me smile
  • mini
7 turnovers and only down 2? things could be worse.
  • peaychris
    NO MORE SHOTS FOR CRAWFORD!!!!!!!!
  • jmoney2584
undisciplined....like him, but he has yet to take the marble from the hand
  • jmoney2584
wow no offense but i hate women announcers calling men's basketball
  • peaychris
this sounds like the same crew who did the SWAC basketball game on ESPNU.. where do they get these crews??
  • Saul Smith needs to give up the idea that he actually has hair.
  • peaychris
these fouls on gordon are getting rediculas.
  • LRubes
    Carl Spackler said it best

License to kill gophers by the government of the United Nations. Man, free to kill gophers at will. To kill, you must know your enemy, and in this case my enemy is a varmint. And a varmint will never quit - ever.

    and thats all she wrote
  • peaychris
carl spackler is my hero with his use of the northern sensimilla grass..
  • peaychris
the only good varmint poontang is dead varmint poontang!!
  • LRubes
so i got that goin for me..... which is nice
  • Luke24
Looks like we're going to miss the start of the game just like sunday with UT and Vandy still 2:25 to go.
  • 18 points with 56 seconds left...just switch over already. Can't stand more Jimmy Dykes.
  • Couldn't agree more. Dykes is hard to tolerate.
  • SanDiegoIUfan
Yeah, that always seems to happen when you have the late game I sort of expected it.

This game is going to be really tough tonight, would be surprised if we came out with a win. They are playing very well, and have a lot of senior leadership which is tough to beat on the road.

    IU 68
    UM 77
  • peaychris
haha look at all of tennessee's white guys get in with a token 30 sec left!! i love the white guys with 30 sec!
  • peaychris
just like sunday... i hope we dont get off to a slow start!
  • Anyone else watching UT-Vandy and REALLY glad that Jimmy Dykes is in Knoxville and not Minneapolis?

"If your husband left the room, you better yell at him to come back, because here comes Vanderbilt."
  • LRubes
    Lets go Hoosiers!

    IU 73
    Minn 60
  • mini
i like AJ with the spark off the bench, Basset is the one that makes the difference with this team...
  • peaychris
i like this new avatar thing. i have, as you can see, gene keady... purdue basketball... it will comb you over!!!

    IU 71
    Minn 63
  • Hoosier_Hound
I understand where all the nay-sayers who think the Hoosiers are going down tonight are coming from. This is their most difficult road game of the season so far and things have been going well, so everyone wants to assume the worst. But I think IU is going to get it done tonight.

    Indiana 76
    Minnesota 64
  • Luke24
The spread is a little crazy, but on the road in the Big Ten you never know. I'll say a 10 point win tonight for our Hoosiers.
  • myrddin
Indiana by 1.5?? Did Bassett break his leg or something?
  • I was wondering the same thing myself. It's down to 1 at some places.

    http://www.docsports.com/college-basketball-lin...
  • Mr_C
I too like Ratliff getting the nod. I feel like it is going to take him one good game to get back to knockin down threes all day, plus his D alone should get him on the court more.
  • HoosierSmitty
Williams Arena is in Bloomington? I never would have guessed...OOPS!
  • Thanks for the correction, HoosierSmitty.
  • Smitty,

Love the idea of trying the 4-guard lineup at some point. We would really fly down the court.

Maybe it's something best thrown in as a change of pace mid-game, instead of starting. I think we start with someone else at the four so we don't get DJ in early foul trouble (ie, someone like MW to guard a good big early to buy DJ some time).

But, down the stretch, to pull away, love Bassett-Gordon-Ratliff-Ellis-DJ. That's showtime.
  • SanDiegoIUfan
SSS - I thought Mike White has been starting. If I am wrong please let me know.
  • Thought that's what I said...but now that I look, it was kind of ambiguous. By saying "I think we start with...someone like MW" I meant I agreed with starting him.
  • HoosierSmitty
Can we seriously give Ratliff a shot at starting sometime this year? Ellis can guard anybody that the Bulldog can, and well, Stemler isn't exactly beefy. With AJ's wingspan, he can handle a wide variety of defensive assignments, and I don't think it hurts us.

I think this would open up the floor and allow us to run and gun it, while still being effective defensively. Maybe it's best to keep AJ on the bench as relief for EJ, but I don't know. I think AJ is our 5th best player, and why not find a way to get him on the court with our other top players.
  • I think it's better to have the more versatile player in the starting line-up. Ratliff might get a start at some point, but I don't see it happening regularly.
  • Hoosier Hound
The Hoosiers went with a four guard lineup for most of the the second half against Illinois. They had DJ, Eric, Armon, Jamarcus, and AJ out there for a long time (and made the comeback happen) until Ellis went down with fouls.
  • MLOVE
    LETS GOOOOOOO... DOOOO WORKKKKK!!!!!!!!!
  • b_side
Big A, just to back-track to the post on what we love/want improved/added to ITH, I greatly appreciate Gameday reading. I used to subscribe to ESPN Insider -- now I cheat and use a friend's login. My favorite option was ESPN Local to get articles regarding the Hoosiers from the opposition as well as the smaller newspapers in the region.

Instead of giving in to Corporate America (i.e. ESPN.com), I'd much rather "shop" at the "mom and pop" store that you guys provide. Not that I don't want ITH to blow up and you guys make a fortune from site visitation, but you get the idea.

Thanks for linking us up so I can pass the time at work.

P.S. What's the login gonna be used for?
  • b_side,
