oh, and by the way...the same site also gave eli holman honorable mention for the freshman class. nothing against holman, but he hasn't even had a lot of playing time with the hoosiers. our other freshman are not mentioned. however, i am glad for eli to have this sort of recognition

realize too that they have kosta koufos drafted long before dj white. i think that may change over the course of the season as well. and yes, i do realize that one will play pf and the other at c, but i still think dj is going to be a better interior presence this year than koufos.

Big A my comparison was a point guard without a jumpshot in the NBA is nothing more than Brevin Knight, Rose is better than Brevin but if his jumpshot is suspect...he is an assist guy only...now ofcourse tonite D.Rose hits 5 3's so maybe I have motivated him.

Kelin,

Comparing Derrick Rose to Brevin Knight is a bit ridiculous. Knight is 5'10" and not nearly as athletic as Rose. I think Rose and Gordon are neck and neck in terms of their potential on the next level. My guess is they'll both be top five picks.

Craig you make good points on Rose, My comparison to Conley is the type of game they play...fast, good pt guard skills, but suspect jumpshots. A friend of mine covered the hawks workout of mike conely for his website and said the Hawks said this kid CANNOT shoot a lick.

Rose is an ok shooter and for a point guard if you are an ok shooter, you are brevin knight. Nathaniel, EJ got off plenty o' shots agaisnt oden and mcroberts in h.s....I don't think the 4 NBA centers that exist would be an issue.

GOOD GOOD DEBATE THOUGH.....

Gary Says,

Tom, you and others like you that want this Dick Vitel medical condition to be career ending are just sick. Why in the world would you want a man who has worked so hard at his career to loose it??? He may not be your cup of tea but he has certainly worked hard to get where he is at. He puts in more hours a week to better his career than you have ever thought of putting in. I am not a big fan of Dickie V but I sure don't want this to end his career. If you don't like the way he does his job just he does there is a great new invention that you have obviously not heard of!!!! It is called the MUTE button.

The only thing Eric Gorodon is lacking right now maybe strength in the NBA it will be harder for him to get his shot off against NBA centers when he drives down the lane. I think he should stay in college one more year and learn a little bit more in defense and get stronger. Plus, maybe be a Title contender again if he stays D.J. White might be able to get a medical red shirt for two seasons ago and come back for another year, armon, gordon, ellis, thomas, white as starters......crawford, matt roth, ebanks, mcgee, and holman coming off the bench....not including pritchard in the mix there either or any juco transfers they may get gordon and white both need to come back next year to win a National Title

DWade is one example and happens to be one of the best players in the league. For every ONE Wade you can count handfuls of big 2 guards (Kobe, TMac, Kevin Martin, Manu Ginobili, Ray Allen, Rip Hamilton) who are at least 3 inches taller than EGordon. Therefore, Gordon is in fact considered undersized.

Conley was a top 5 pick last year, so discrediting Rose by saying he is similar to Conley doesn't work.

Kelin - you question Rose's ability to defend. I recognize you probably have watched Gordon play plenty and haven't had the opportunities to watch DRose. I think if you watch him, you'll realize he's a hell of a defender.

Gordon over Rose because he can sell tickets? I think NBA "people" recognize the financial success of the Suns and would accept drafting a pass first point guard like Rose.

How is Rose not a pure point guard based on NBA standers? What is your rationale here?

As a freshman:
Nash, 8 PPG, 2 APG, 2.5 RPG
Kidd, 13 PPG, 7.7 APG, 5 RPG
Rose 14.4 PPG, 3.9 APG, 5.3 RPG

I think at least this point in his career, Rose is right there with the pure point guards you state he is not nearly like. I'm not saying he is currently as good of a player as Nash and Rose. I am saying he is a PURE point guard, as Nash and Kidd are referred to as PURE point guards.

I'm a big IU fan and love what Gordon does on the court, but I'm also a big NBA fan and am confident that Rose is right there with Gordon as an NBA prospect.

If I was an NBA gm I would take Rose first overall, because I can count on one hand the number of really good point guards in the league (Nash, Kidd, Billips, Paul, Williams). A true point guard is so valuable in the NBA it trumps a lot of other qualities. Then I would take Beasley second because he looks like the next Garnett, Stoudamire, D Howard of the NBA. After those two, EJ might be the best player, though it would depend on if the team wanted a guard or a big guy like Hibbert, Hansbrough, or Jordan.

Best wishes to Dickie V.

If Gordon had chose Duke instead of IU----he would have been labeled the best college guard since the Big "O"--which he is in fact and the pro scouts know it. As for Dickie V, another poster put it best:" I pray that it is not life threatening or an ongoing health problem, but that it is career ending.", or words to that effect. I second that thought.
