Lavin is good at commentary because he knows his stuff and he also coached in Big Ten country(Assistant Coach under Gene Keady before UCLA.)
I like the other names that the rest of you mentioned and I also agree with the disapproval of Billy Packer-he is the worse of all and even more bias against the Big Ten because he is an ACC guy.

Zach you could really make an entire CD on what Majerus says, I hate to see him leave the booth but glad he is back in college bball….nothing against KS but would not have had a problem with him being the coach to follow Mike Davis…I thin his health scared people away.

Packer is B-A-D. Def. worse than Raffy. I agree with Cutter about Vitale. I think the reason I like watching a game Dickie V is doing the commentary on is because of how animated he is. He always gets pumped, which in turn gets me pumped. I hate how he is soooo biased towards the ACC and Duke in general, and he is definately begining to age and sound like he needs to clear his throat. But at the same time, he just has crazy energy somehow and he gets excited, almost like a fan, and seems like he really loves the game, which is pretty cool.

First, forgot to mention that I like the site. Its really good in terms of content.
Second, love the Majerus story above.
Third, since others were mentioning the announcing preferences, IMHO Lavin is tolerable and sometimes amusing. Gus Johnson is solid. Rafferty is getting long in the tooth. Bilas is OK with me, he’s definitely a guy who respects IU for IU and its tradition, also seems like he might be a decent guy to get a beer with. Dykes is horrific and should be sent to the ESPN local market. At times, I can even borderline tolerate Vitale (I still just enjoy his enthusiasm, despite the fact that its so pro-Duke and “The General” this and that). Musberger has actually stabilized in my view and I suspect it because he is away from the Anti-Christ, Billy Packer. Billy Packer should be sent to Guantanamo Bay. He’s the worst.

Eric Gordon is the real deal, but struggled mightily with the defensive pressure from Stanley Burrell of the Xavier Musketeers. He ended up with 20 (12-12 from the FT line) but was 4-12 from the field and extremely frustrated. The Muskies are for real – watch them beat up on Chris Lofton and UT in a couple of weeks.

Steve…Rafferty is solid and he knows his stuff. Now he is a little gimmicky with the “man to man” at light speed…but you gotta love the cartoon character voice. I like Musberger in the old NBA days of Bird v Magic, can’t get into him now.

Kelin, are you kidding me? Rafferty is a moron. I hate how he always gets pumped and says stuff really fast. You can barely understand him sometimes. Lavin and Dickie V are 2 of my favorites, Kellog is also solid. I hated when Musberger and Lavin were together though. They were like Bert and Ernie. They always talked about personal stuff and about life on the road. It got annoying. But Lavin def. knows his stuff.
